If I want to sell my car in Klang Valley to used car dealer, does it matter in terms of trade-in value if the plate number is not W, V or B?
I for one will try to avoid buying a used car with number plate from Kelantan - flooding issue, less well maintained road, etc. OK, so Klang Valley has frequent floodings, but you get the drift.
Will KV people avoid buying a used car with P registration plate, hence affecting the resale value? Hope it does not turn into P vs The Rest of Malaysia thread.

QUOTE(WaCKy-Angel @ Jun 25 2017, 03:21 PM) no offence but that is plain stupid None taken, bro. Asking because I will be based in Penang for a period of time. I will be buying a new car soon and unsure whether to get a P plate or Klang Valley plate. When I drive my own Kuala Lumpur plated car, I find other drivers more "hostile" and impatient towards me. The difference is stark when I drive another car with P plate. Same style of driving, but very much improved treatment from other local drivers. It does not affect me that much, but my wife will be driving the new car most of the time and being relatively inexperienced, she can do with less "hostility" on the road. We will be selling the new car after three years when we return to KV, hence the concern about potential resale value.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(SonnyCooL @ Jun 26 2017, 12:28 AM) used car dealer will find you THOUSAND excuse for you car, be it plate or bla bla bla bla ...... when they start selling it, they give buyer another thousand reason why that car worth (include plate). for example : Seller P plate, Penang, so close to sea, sure rust la .... road condition there so bad, mounting, absober sure die la ..... bla bla bla Buyer : Penang car is good, low mileage, you see Island so small, even every day round island mileage will be lower than KL car la .... bla bla bla But some sohai really believe in it ... QUOTE(hihihehe @ Jun 26 2017, 12:38 AM) used car dealer rarely decide your car value due to the plate unless you have the nice number la nowadays people can choose the state wherever they want Agree with the excuses used by used car dealer to press down seller, and mark up to buyer. What I am wondering is, do KV people try to avoid buying a used car with Png plate, given the reputation of Png plate car drivers and being thought to be from Penang and hence "outsiders, can bully". QUOTE(-Aktan- @ Jun 26 2017, 11:34 AM) Same as driving a sedan and axia. Different treatment. For perak plate and Penang plate in Penang island, there were different treatments, not sure if my mind is playing trick or real.Mind elaborating?

QUOTE(scorgio @ Jun 26 2017, 02:46 PM) Not commenting on plate. But even a car driven solely in Penang island, the rusting effect is slower than cars driven mainly around Port Dickson, Tanjung Sepat, Sekinchan etc. However, a car driven solely on the island, low mileage, mechanically is not ideal. Due to frequent short trips, slow moving traffic, the engine's hardly rev high, gearbox seldom hit top gear, too much shifting on 1-2-3. My relative's Hyundai & Toyota, when I drove them in Penang, the engine's not responsive & the auto gb is kind of sluggish. And it ain't no maintenance fault, cos I knew the servicing's always on time. With such understanding, I'd personally avoid Penang cars if I'm shopping for a used. Very true on the low mileage and frequent short trips - which is not good for engine oil due to sulphuric acid and perhaps carbon build-up.

QUOTE(overfloe @ Jun 26 2017, 10:22 PM) I dont think it affects the resale value but, having KL plate is easier to sell and more favourable. Easier to sell, won't this affect resale value? QUOTE(mars2003 @ Jun 26 2017, 11:30 PM) imagine 2 same model and same year make car.. one is kl plate ..the other is outstation plate. ok plate sure sell easier in kl.. hence the low price for outstation plate number... same if u park 2 same car in penang... kl plate sure harder to sell there.. hence have to sell lower price But mind telling why you think outstation plate is more difficult to sell? I used Kelantan plate as an example of cars I'd avoid due to annual flooding and presumably worse road conditions.
