Hi, I am planning to get myself a Xbox 360, the sales person recommended me with both modded and unmodded console.

The salesperson only briefly explain to me that modded consoles are unable to connect to the Internet or join Xbox Live, but he was unable to explain further when I enquire about the details....anyone able to assist to tell me why ?

But the package that he is selling me, is the Premium Console, that includes an original copy of N3 - Asia version. So despite I am using a modded Xbox 360, do I still encounter problem if I use an original copy of a game ?

And of course, what are the other drawbacks of a modded console?

Thanks in advance

You can still play original copies of a game regardless of modification. As of now you can even get online with backup copies on a modded machine - but then again the risks are the two main ones:

1) MS might decide to ban modded machines from online play
2) Your warranty might be voided by the modification

Coz I am really blur with steps and procedure....

When I am using Xbox to connect to the Internet and download trailers and others from Xbox, do i still need to register to Xbox Live ??

Meaning, I do not want to join Online Play, I only want to download trailers and other facilities of Xbox.

Or, I must register to Xbox Live first and only I can utilize the functions ?

alex, what you now have is Xbox Live Silver. It will allow you to download trailers and demos, no charge. You only need to pay for Xbox Live Gold if you want online play smile.gif

So, does that mean I am unable to use Xbox Live at all if I use a modded Xbox 360 ??

You still can go LIVE if you use a modded X360.

true you can play online because up to this moment msoft didnt do anything yet on modded/flashed 360 and no one knows what will happen either.

BUT your main concern should be what will happen when 3rod visited you in future? how to solve this 3rod? this is what you need to ask first before anything.

If you play Live Silver, you can't multiplay with other players all over the world or with your friends. But with Live Gold, you can.

If your Xbox is banned by MS, consider this a brick to your machine

Getting banned doesn't mean brick as you still can play it offline.

3ROD, for the moment is definetly a 'incurable' problem....so Que Sera Sera.....what will come, WILL come....

But I just wanna confirm, is it safe to use Xbox Live with a modded console?
tot31 said that I am able to go Live, but Ashe and hairyLGS said it will be banned... so which is which?

At the moment MS doesn't ban modded X360 that goes on LIVE but in the future no one can tell.

It's safe to play LIVE at the moment!

What they are trying to say is you don't know what might happen in the
future. Will Microsoft ban modded Xbox360s from LIVE? Who knows??

Pls take note that you need to update your Xbox360 first before you
can go LIVE. When you first connect to LIVE, you will prompted for the update.

If you mod, your xb360 warranty is void - when 3ROD visit you, it's worst than aunty visit that even tampon can't help you.

If you mod now, you still can go live - but you never know when Microsoft will start banning modded console. It's just one & a half year since xb360 launch, for Xbox 1 it took years before they start banning. When you are ban, you cannot login Live anymore.

If you mod, you get cheap games - but people don't really appreciate their game. Most of the game will be lying on the floor or kept under the stacks of your games folder. Most of the active gamers here are legitimate xb360 gamers. Yes, it's true...ori supporter tend to be more gaming friendly.

If you choose to mod, you cannot discuss anything about it in this section. Strictly game only.

If you ask me, i would say ori is the way to go. Besides, we got Pasar Malam 360 thread for cheap 2nd-hand Ori game!!!

Thanks a lot for the information guys ! Now I have a bit of idea on how to get started on the console....

I will probably be getting a un-modded Asian Premium console (thx to PrivateJohn's direct suggestion and answer), coz one of my main priority would be accessing into Xbox Live.....

many thanks in advance guys !

Ok, thanks guys for the advise...

I am very new to this Xbox 360, been trying to dig more details, but is there anyone that can tell me what are the steps that I should do when i get my Xbox 360 for the very first time ?

This is my planned outline
- Get my Xbox 360 for the first time
- Direct connection to Broadband
- Get into Xbox Live
- Get a Gamertag / Profile ready
- Not subscribe to Gold membership yet (coz i wanna try out the functions and play offline first)

That's about it.... so is there anything i missed out or i've mistaken ? Please do advise.

After I register my Gamertag, can I come here to join the Live Gamers group ?

Thanks !
