To all the sifus here,

I have a question. I have 2 hard disk and I currently wanted to install Windows Vista on the other hard drive while keeping XP on the first HD. So I was wondering if I would need 2 antivirus software? One on XP drive the other on Vista drive? Thanks.

Since you are running one OS at a time you will need to install antivirus on each of the OS

yea, just like they said "/, you'll need 2 versions of antivirus for both pc. Please do remember, Vista requires antivirus that compatible with vista.
Not sure what antivirus to install? here:-

Thanks all. Thats means I will only do offline games on Vista while the online games would be under XP. So, my last question would it be better if I run XP on HDD A and Online games (that needs internet connection) on HDD B? I have read some articles that OS files needs to be in the same drive/partition to run faster. But won't it be much faster if its in a different hard drive so that it can access data simultaneously? My HDD is SATA 1 based btw.

That does not make much difference IMHO

I usually keep OS and Program Files in C and Data and multimedia files in D

You need to install the antivirus on each independent OS..irrespect where the OS resides.

Yes, you will need to install it on both drives. That's because the AV comes with a resident protection that checks files as you use them (i.e. it must be installed and running) as well as the daily scan function.

If you just rely upon daily scan to keep the 'other' OS clean, then when using the OS without the AV installed you will not be protected for any new viruses you get during that day, only from any which you picked up the previous day.

Conclusion is not the thing, bro.

"If TS ask like what is best AV?" This will be spoon feeding to say: Norton BEST. OR NOD32 Best. (In fact, many make this mistake of answering the lazy)

BUT, saying like "Why is NOD32 good?" Answer:- Good Heuristics. Period. This is incomplete. Why? At least give the user an idea what is heuristics OR quote from some source. At least.

So, in your case, why 2 is needed? Some have answered for you (Loads of courtesy to them too. At least I get the view point). So, Try to at least give an idea. Cheers! smile.gif
