QUOTE(splinter @ Apr 10 2007, 12:45 AM) Thinking of getting a new Notebook with vista preloaded. What do u mean in term of slow? Only boot up and shutdown? Hmm, my Asus boot up anytime faster than XP but shut down much slower than XP. Other than that i dun find anything slow. Btw, i am using C2D 1.66GHZ with 1GB DDR2 only..The problem is, no matter wad brand, Sony, HP, Compaq, Toshiba or bla bla i try so far, they run damn slow on preloaded Vista even the spec is C2C 1.66Ghz with 1Gb ram. The windows boot up and shut down is slow like snail even my p4 HT with XP can beat it kau kau one.. So actually wad wrong with those notebook preloaded Vista? |

QUOTE(wewa25 @ Apr 10 2007, 02:08 PM) lol..sound like handphone... But if u edit and step down the speed, i dun think so that ready boost have any significant boost Added on April 10, 2007, 2:09 pmFORCE slow USB drives to work with READYBOOST in VISTA , best tweak yet!! Windows ReadyBoost is a great technology, caching things on USB drives to improve system performance, but Windows Vista insists on checking the drives for certain speed requirements before enabling the feature. If you have a USB drive that is just a hair to slow to beat the test, or you want to use an external hard drive (slower speed, loads of cache space), Matt Rajca posts at Channel 9 how you can force Vista to let you use ReadyBoost on an unsupported device, whether it wants to or not: 1. Plug in the device. 2. Open the Readyboost tab on the device properties. 3. Select "Do not retest this device" 4. Unplug the device 5. Open regedit (start->run->regedit) 6. Expand - HKLM (Local Machine)->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows NT->CurrentVersion->EMDgmt 7. Find your device. 8. Change Device Status to 2 9. Change ReadSpeedKBs to 1000 10. Change WriteSpeedKBs to 1000 11. Plug in the device. 12. Enable Readyboost!!!! Added on April 10, 2007, 2:10 pmcredit me or that Matt fella..or else..ur readyboost will destroy ur house!! Added on April 10, 2007, 2:14 pmlol..now all my usb ports have at least a device..ext hd..thumbdrives..even 64mb drive oso nvr let go..wakakakaka |

QUOTE(wewa25 @ Apr 10 2007, 02:19 PM) hmm..mayb can make it higher gua..i think the main thing is the device status.. So after the setting, any significant boost? the speed should not be a factor..coz current hardware is memang not fast enough?? but a slight boost better than no boost ma.. perhaps only the registry key for device status thats stopping drives from being used.. btw..only one cache can be used at 1 time.. i set my ext usb 2.0 drive to 2gb..lolz i try setting at 10000..still working..hehe QUOTE u all install 32bit or 64bit version de? 32bit de la.. QUOTE(onscreen @ Apr 11 2007, 03:41 PM) Not much difference but in gaming, you will see huge difference as well as doing video editing in Vista. When i first upgrade to Vista Ultimate OEM, i have 1GB and i run 5 applications : photoshop, illustrator, flash, dreaamweaver and firefox. There is no slow down on my AMD 3000+ 1GB with 7600GT. Then i guess maybe i will hold upgrading to 2GB first. Wait it to drop till very affordable. Maybe like Rm100 per 1GB DDR2 667. Once i upgraded to 2.5 GB, only difference i get to feel is the speed of application loading and the less usage of virtual memory. Addition note : windows key + tab = 3d flip task selection. Just use it like how you do it with alt + tab Added on April 11, 2007, 3:42 pm correction, nVidia have all stable and beta drivers for Vista. You have to scroll sightly more downwards to see Vista 32 and 64 selection. For beta driver, click on the link top most of the drivers page. Why would u play .avi in ur real player. The reason ppl download K-Lite Mega pack is they dun wan to use real player. Thus installing Mega pack uses real alternatif. Real sucks imho. Full of advert sh!t

QUOTE(linkinstreet @ Apr 17 2007, 09:50 AM) No la, you can still play RM and RMVB files even if you don't install MPC. MPC is just a stripped down and lighter version of WMP. You just need the Real Alternative codec installed to make RM and RMVB files run. Don't believe me? Drag RM files into your WMP and it can play just fine. Is it true? Can play Rm or rmvb in WMP 11 ah? Never try that b4.. How's the quality then? Same with WMP Classic?and what do you mean from "there is no downgrade right for Vista Home". Either you grammar is wrong or my eyes is deceiving me I dun think so that Home Basic is useless. It's cheaper compare to Home Premium. Only that it left out WMC. All the aero function can be tweak to be use on Home Basic anyway. And err if u would wan Parental Control... This post has been edited by adriankhoo153: Apr 17 2007, 11:03 AM |
