I'm just wondering how did the OEM boxes drop. Its weird though. Anyhow , its recommended for you to buy Retail rather then OEM boxes. The difference , well you can't tell. You can activate both of them but I would recommend Retail over OEM at all times , its just to be extra safe. Its still a mystery how they marked OEM Windows Vista (Did it from off from Dell Store ?)

Licence wise, better get OEM if you're not going to change your PC in a long time. And heck, my friend who is using OEM have no problem really transferring his licence to a new PC when in practice you can't. A quick call to microsoft usually fixed it.

You're better off with an OEM license on a laptop. Cheaper plus laptop's don't get their insides changes often if at all.

im using vista ultimate 64bit sp1.
recently my mobo fried, biostar tf7050-m2
and i just change it to abit sumtin mobo..

and with my past experience using xp, i would have to reformat may windows to use it again...
but yesterday, when i bootup my pc, its just work like normal, except i have to install afew driver here and there.

so my question is,

would it be stable?

pls ask ur friend to get his fact rit... if like wat he say then everytime i format i need to buy a new Vista...

by old i presume u mean Vista pre-SP1 (or Vista Gold to be correct)???

u juz need to update to SP1 and that's all...

SP1 is nothing big, really, it mainly contains all the hotfixes and patches released by MS since day 1 of Vista...

What's Vista Gold? There's no "pre-SP1".

the term SP0 is the same as Gold or RTM release, the first public final release of Vista. Pre-SP1 usually refer to beta of SP1, that't why ppl call it Pre-SP1...
