no need to mention that your opinion is rather baseless, unproven and unfounded, but what a silly ignorant person you are. just because it is your mere "opinion", is doesn't mean you may say it unfoundedly and deregatorily.

it IS the individual and his/her ability and NOT the martial art style that determine whether one would win or lose. we can see muay thai exponents often win both in open competition and real-life fight, this is because muay thai practitioners really train much harder plus get much more accustomed to open competitions and real situations compared to most others. it is neither simply because they chose muay thai nor muay thai prevails over the rest of the martial arts.

a good silat exponent will beat you up. a good taekwondo exponent will beat you up. a good karate opponent will beat you up. a good muay thai opponent will beat you up. so does any GOOD practitioner of any martial art.

if you think silat is mere dance and performance, then i don't blame you for the ignorance. in fact those artsy dances are mere 0.1% of what a silat student is going to learn. the rest are fair share of various punches, kicks, step-sparr, joint locking and combats, many of which are deadly if perfectly executed.

you think silat exponents dance and will just dance when they are to fight? you can't even differentiate between the mere aesthetic and the real fight skills? are these silat exponents just dancing anyway?

Well I wouldn't underestimate silat exponent but being a martial art exponent myself, I know there are ways to pin them down or execute the right move to cripple them.

as usual wikipedia can't be trusted....wikipedia is based on people writing....not historical fact...or any evidence from the CSI department...

dont underestimate other martial art, such silat...
most of the silat people dont really the kind of showoff, coz they bind by their pantang larang...they only use for helping n protect them self... even u challenge them, they will not fight with u with full strength...

for ur information, im not from silat but from taekwondo....i always exchange knowledge from my silat friend(silat cekak harimau)...even with 'bengkung hijau', he really damn good...

dont underestimate other martial art...a great fighter never underestimate their opponent...

a lot...is not just from diff region but diff sifu or guru...
there is 2 type of silat, silat "berisi" n not...

berisi got pantang larang n bertapa...n some of their training cannot being see by others...
i got friend from this kind of silat, but forgot already the name...his silat can be use to cure those who been posses...one of them is silat cekak harimau(my friend is one of them) n silat kilat(this silat not for fighting but to kill)... most of them is low profile n hard to know if they one of them....

the other want is like taekwondo n karate.....it's just plain n no pantang larang...one of them is silat cekak n silat gayong malaysia...

correct me if im wrong, but this is what i know....

Got any real silat fights caught on tape other than in tournament? No offence but if demo silat only like WWE wrestling ... Just my opinion though.
I believe silat is a way that you could hit at some vital part that could make your attackers weak.
I salute them for that.

Silat is a very good art.
I am a jujitsu & karateka and I've learned silat hand movement from a lawyer.

It is extremely good where this increases your focus, speed and power.

Most of these are explained by felliw positive forumers in this thread.

The more you learn, the more you understand how little you actually know.
Other wise, you're just a "katak bawah tempurung" and "masuk bakul angkat sendiri".

I agree. From what little I've learnt abou silat. It is very deceptive in the sense that the movement is very dancelike. Your opponent is confused as to what the movements are for and when they attack thay will be met with swift movement that combines defence and attack.

Bodoh la korang ni semua. orang ingat silat tu lemah sebab dari melayu. Mungkin betul setengah tanggapan melayu ni leka dengan lalai tapi dalam bab bergaduh ni jgn main. Silat ni memang orang betul2 guna untuk bunuh orang, bukan takat kalahkn je.
