Just check benchmarks on systems with comparable specifications to the MacBook. The numbers should come in fairly close. Certainly do look at the system requirements for the games that you're interested in.

http://wiki.nfsunlimited.net/wiki/Need_for...em_Requirements

Carbon is barely going to run at all on the MacBook. You might have a little more luck with NFSU and NFSU:2. It's not going to look pretty, though.

Yea, gaming on a Macbook is like gaming on any Windows-based Machine with Intel GMA950. It's not that Mac isn't made for gaming yet.

hehe. as for NFS:Carbon - i can say that macbook pro could play it BUT you would have to tune down some settings

even on 6800 Ultra and 1024x768, i had to turn down a few settings like shader model 3 and stuff (strange, i bought the 6800 Ultra to have SM3 and now i'm not using it for Carbon) tongue.gif

erm.. not really also. laugh.gif

my 667mhz G4 Powerbook can run World of Warcraft (laggy though) and Halo (at super duper low res)... can a Pentium-something with 667Mhz run World of Warcraft and Halo? The thing is that Macs (and Mac OS) are made ready for gaming. The problem is that there aren't that many developers porting games over due to the small market demand (yet, Macs have a fairly large library of games as well).

Overall, I've played C&C, Warcraft 3, Max Payne, Homeworld 2, Delta Force: Black Hawk Down, The Sims, World of Warcraft, Fallout2, Dungeon Siege, Neverwinter Nights and some other games on a Mac before. Runs fine. smile.gif

Hmm.. Did Neverwinter Nights at full details on me Powerbook smile.gif

Better yet, I was playing that while waiting for the Compiere schema to be imported into an Oracle database running on the very same Powerbook too (a process that takes about 15 minutes), and no lag on Neverwinter Nights too, despite the heavy chunching going on in the background smile.gif

That's mostly thanks to your X1600 dedicated video inside.

But realistically, how many of us would readily drop down over 7000 RM for a laptop to play games? Crazy, right? 4000 RM for a notebook that can't game vs. 7000 for one that can. That's a hard choice to make.

Just get an iMac Intel for 4000 with X1600 and get over it. It's a small and light computer, portable enough, with enough power to handle almost anything.

Well, I spent that amount of money on a notebook for other usage. Being able to play games on it is just a bonus.

do tell us your specs. smile.gif

for me, i'm tempted to buy The Sims for MAC. tongue.gif to play on it when i'm bored and alone with Mac. GMA 950 should be better than GF2MX which ran The Sims fine.

You can try add ram to it for gaming, i think 1GB DDR2 ram can be fine with Carbon smile.gif . If can let it be 2GB DDR2 ram and dump the GMA's memory to 224MB . I think the resolution can make it 800x600 with 2/3 detail . Motion Blur keep it off, Antialixx and texture firteling keep off, shader detail keep low. will be fine at all.

I just brought a Compaq V3222 yesterday with this spec:

AMD Turion 64 x 2 TL-50 (1.6Ghz 256KB+256KB L2Cache)
nVidia nForce MC430 Chipset with nVidia geForce Go6150
nVidia Go6150 up-to 256MB TurboCache (Shared)
1GB DDR2 667Mhz Ram (Before was 512MB)
80GB SATA
14.1 WXGA 1280x800

I can run NFS:Carbon at 800x600 with motion blur on, it running smooth without any lagg!

All detail= High , shader detail = low, Texture Filtering = Anistropic, World Detail = Low , Road Detail = Medium, Car Detail= High, Car reflection update= Medium

The Sims 2 Open For Business , like what Goldfries say, it running smooth ! I use 1280x800 with all medium detail. Most important is, pls adjust at graphic control panel for texture filtering and antialeasing set to OFF. Default was "Application Prefrence".

I get shocked after i play games! BTW it just a integrated graphic, so don't compare with dedicated graphic. It's enough for normal user smile.gif . Even my iMac 2.0 Core 2 Duo with ATi X1600 i feel lag when i put the shader detail to high for NFS Carbon.

Dude , GeForce 6150 Go has Pixel shaders and it does HnL. It does it hardware , the hardware is able to t ake it. GMA 950 on the other hand uses the CPU to do the job which is lame. Thats why Radeon X200 pawns GMA 950. [This goes for NVIDIA GeForce 61xx series as well]
