Hello Everyone
I am doing some reaearch on gliders before I get some & would appreciate it if someone could answer the following for me.
The (3) books I have got list the common fruit & vegies that are the norm for western countries. What I would like to know if ALL the fruit & vegies available in Thailand ( & Malaysia ) are suitable for gliders eg: Rambutan;Lychees;Sala;Rose Apple etc
Many thanks

Thanks Hun & KP for the info. I will be getting Calc. & Vitamin supplements anyway when I decide to get.
Yes Hun I finally got on - for some reason the forum would not accept the ( business's ) email address but I tried a gmail address that a friend set up for me which works. The "Bat Ray" photos I have seen in a Taiwanese stingray magazine weird !!
Thks again

Hi KP
Regarding your problem with artificial vines. I have "Silk" vines in with my GTP & there is always faeces & urea ( white faeces) attached. I clean mine with detergent . rinse & leave in full sun to dry. If you leave it out for a few days the sun may get rid of the smell ( which it does for mine ) or maybe buy a second lot of cheaper vines to use whilst the first lot is in the sun

Hi Hun
Firstly sorry about the "out of topic".
SG's are very easy to get in Thailand - HOWEVER the majority are very young. I have heard of one private breeder & will be trying to get from him. I wont discuss the reasons on the forum.
I have an old store room outside the house which I want to convert to a nocturnal hse. It is approx. 7 to 8' high x 10' long but narrow - 3' wide. I have written to a friend in Sydney asking him if Taronga Zoo uses "moonlights" as I might get one sent over & put in the hse. I have got access to Eucalyptus tree's which grow near our nursery & can get branches to put in it. It will be a few months before I get the SG's.

Hi Everyone
Kangaroo Meat as a glider food............ interesting as kangaroo meat is very nice & very lean ie not much fat. Hun / anyone if you get a chance can you tell me who & where this "holistic glider food " is made. the percentage of protein seems very low as the mix ( liquid part ) that Australian zoos use has a protein percentage of 52%. I might try & contact some people in Australia & see what the latest mix is over there.

Actually SG's are carnivours in their natural state. They do feed on reptiles, birds etc so in theory can be classified as such. I dont think they could eat a roo as the SG's would have to come down to the ground & they & tree Kangaroos are a bit too big for SG's to take on.
Hun - roo meat is not just for dog's it is in fact a very nice meat to eat ( along with Emu & croc.). One can buy it at butcher shops as mentioned it is very lean but a very dark meat & yes I have tried it.

My last post was not meant to be sarcastic - it was meant to add a bit of humor. I am sure that 12 yr olds are well aware that an SG cannot take on a full grown Kangaroo it would be an animal version of David & Goliath with Goliath being the obvious winner. Yes you are correct Humans do EAT anything.

Hun
At least down in malaysia the sellers give the buyers a variety of food for gliders - up here they just tell them to feed bananas & corn
CFP - maybe Chika wants to learn how to swim or catch some fish for it's meal. Maybe you should buy a small aqualung for it so it can go diving

Went shopping on Sunday to Villa Market ( one of 2 places that carry a lot of "exotic - non Thai " food ) They had cans of "Ensure". Can you people buy that in Malaysia ???. It is the first time I have seen it in BKK.

CFP
Why would you want to go to Bondi Beach for ??. There are no gliders there - well maybe some female ones but they would not have much fur on.

vckc4ever

why aren't they called "Flying Fox" , same ?

Flying Fox's are a large fruit eating bat - they are both mammals but different families - gliders are marsupials & FF's give birth to a fully developed young ( still need mummy though ) FF's fly whilst gliders use a membrane to glide from one tree to another

"Ruth's page?

Last I check was still available, but somehow, sometimes it does goes missing.

I'll give you the link once I'm back at my computer cuz it's in my bookmark "

Thanks KP, i enjoyed reading that one. Just a side question do any glider keepers in Malaysia give apple cider vinegar to their gliders ??. I read where Ruth gave / gives it to hers but other sites say NO.

CFP - GF's, wives etc can be very expensive so what you could do is buy a training bra to "bra bond" with your gliders That way you may attract some ladies that are wondering what you have under your shirt !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regarding Hun's article on the plight of caged gliders

I know that it is not possible in BKK but what would happen if a report was filed with your "Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals" or are they just a "toothless tiger" ?? & wont take any action
