This kinda pet cannot bath..... if you bath, there is a method.... but advisable not to bath because it could actually cause them to become sick later.

Oh, that is normal for most animals... ear wax. You can always take a cotton bud and wipe it clean.

Trimming nails for me is pretty easy coz when my gliders were joeys, I handled their feet and play with them alot during nail cutting. So it gets easy. However when I cut other people's glider nails, I gotta be more careful.

Just 2 weeks ago I trimmed my friend's glider's nails. He was amazed that it took me 5 minutes when it took him about an hour....

That is sitting still and no movement is called Stoning. Most gliders do that. Some do it coz they feel scared, some just do it for no reason. My glider can stone for 1 hour on the table and only move when I place my hand on her.

Nail trimming just needs lots of practice and patience.

Ok i try on that trick on that website XD. Hope can really help my Ah Pit having nice nail trimming. I see, wah stone for 1 hour on table.
My Ah Pit if going out from cage..... i can say non-stop move over 1 hour also can.

1 time i forget close the cage, at midnight Ah Pit very enjoy live outside the cage, but unlucky she break my mother 1 small jade that she like alot, I also scare my mom will scold me about that, but she just forgive me and Ah Pit. On that time about morning 6am something then only take Ah Pit back to cage, on that time Ah Pit still move here move there.

mm... i dunno is good or bad giving them a bath, since sometimes they really became smelly (because of a stupid small mammal food i get from a shop with cheap price n now i seldom let them eat.). i will use warm water to wet them, then put on soap (the one tat i using), and wash with warm water again. and dry them as soon as possible after that with cloth. (but only bath them on body, not head. and mostly do it on a hot noon or evening) and then, wrap them with the cloth. cut the nail (very very careful). and dry them again with another dry cloth. and put them back to the cage which been 'big' cleaned. and reward them with fruits. (mostly fruit like strawberry or grape or other fruits tat i seldom give them or sometimes honey.)

hi
i juz got my joey today

he is eating so far
hand feed it once in the afternoon and just now
it eat little bit only but its eating and drinks quite alot of water from the hamster water thingy.

but i notice tat one of the thumb on his hind leg is like red in color, swollen abit while ta other one is pink in color.

is tis normal, wil it get well by itself or i need to apply medicine for it?
his movement doesnt seem to be restricted due to this as he is jumping around here and there but his grip is not tat firm yet thus i decided against putting him in the big cage first due to i scare he might fall down.

anyway regarding the red thumb is it dangerous?

thanks in advance biggrin.gif

even we did give flyers , etc , do u think u will keep it at the petshop ? they are selling it . sure kena halau. if we make a website dedicated to malaysian sugar glider community , might be ok but since most ppl buy on impulse and dont even bother to research, whats the point ? even if one or two ppl read, thats already make a different but its not enough.
*

They might or might not keep it. But, the way I see it, if the leaflet points out to reliable sources, such as where the info comes from and such. And that the info is correct against what they say or teach, I think with the right approach we can educate them.

We have to be patient if we want it to work. Like we can't go and marah them, but will have to talk to them reasonably and pointing out the facts you have in hand.

QUOTE(dai86 @ Sep 8 2007, 04:27 PM)
hey hey, anyone have any special technic to tame the glider?
*

Special technique or not, actually depends on the owner and how the glider response.

Most of the techniques on the net are proven ones, 'cept that you need to double up the effort it if you want to speed it up.

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Sep 8 2007, 11:31 PM)
Does anyone can give some suggestion about wheel for sugar glider?
*

The only wheel I'd recommend for suggies is the Wodent Wheel. The size is big to allow them run without hurting their back and the tracks are solid with safe covers so that they will not fall off while running in the wheel.

And it is the only wheel certified safe by the ASPCA.

Small size wheels can cause back injuries to suggies.

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Sep 9 2007, 12:18 AM)
Normally i just believe them 50% what they say if i totally don't know about that, after i get the pet then continue get more info from other way.
*

I find that most info from pet shops re small animal or exotics are only appx. 20-30% correct. The rest are total crap.

QUOTE(dai86 @ Sep 9 2007, 01:06 AM)
ya. to me, usually i will go shop look look got what type of pet, then when seen one i like, will go home, online, search info, and see.... can handle or cannot handle, then decide to rre or not. haha...
*

Yup, that's the right way before deciding to get a pet. Do some research to determine whether you can or cannot care or handle the desirable pet smile.gif

QUOTE(kikiz @ Sep 9 2007, 01:09 AM)
In Australia, the pet shops really look after their pets! Actually I went to only 1, that pet shop refused to sell us the rabbit, until we show them that we have a cage and its big enough for it. Felt like I'm being interviewed whether I'm suitable for keeping a rabbit.  laugh.gif
*

Never been to one yet, but hope too visit one soon wink.gif

Suggies are protected animals in Aussie. Good for them!

Wah, seems like they really-really care for the pets they sell until they can refuse to sell them if they feel you're not a good owner. Hahh, we can only dream for that to happen here...

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Sep 9 2007, 12:40 PM)

Huhh, cat food??

Don't tell me you're feeding your suggie cat food.

QUOTE(vincent09 @ Sep 9 2007, 06:27 PM)
Actually do you guys really can call your sugar glider back when leave them outside the cage?
Just want to train something like that, most of them also not come back and need to play hide and seek with my suger glider.

Anyone success and can share about the experience ?
*
Suggies are like a combination of a few animals. Sometimes they'll come back when you call, sometimes they won't.

With persistance and patience, most of the suggies will come back when you call or return to their cage once done exploring or playing.

Things like this works well if you teach them from young, but it does not mean it doesn't work if they're already grown up, you just need to more time and a specific training schedule.

My adult male returns to me or his cage whenever he's done exploring. And he was an aggressive sub-adult male when I got him smile.gif

Like Hun said, they can't be bathe unless you know the correct way or technique and it has to be done in a speedy time.

Yup, once you're used to it, you can do it under 5 mins wink.gif

I dunno how swollen is it, but it happened once with Iggy's hind leg thumb too.

It wasn't so swollen, just a bit and look like dark red than the other thumb. But it subsided in a few days and was back to normal.

Keep an eye on it everyday. If it does not change in a day or two, better get it checked.

Iggy's one shows changes everyday until it became better.

There's no cage too big for suggies, even a joey. Trust me, they won't fall. They're born to climb, clamber, jump and glide. Tho they will smack on something when they're learning to glide, but it's harmless wink.gif

Welcome to the family!

There's 2 types of hissing. One is to call and the other if he has difficulties peeing.

Normally they don't eat much during the day. They eat more during the night when they're awake and active.

I give them the mix once a day, during the night time feeding. One table spoon full smile.gif

Sometimes got leftovers, sometimes not.

But do leave him some fresh fruits in the morning.

Sometimes they'll still eat before going back to sleep smile.gif

I fed them twice everyday, late night and early morning.

We don't encourage people to feed their suggies cat food. That is one teaching that is plainly wrong. It already says CAT food, so it's for cats, NOT suggies.

No doubt they will eat it if you give to them, but it is clearly not meant for them, thus not good too.

We don't feed our suggies anything cat food.

We stick to fruits, mix and mealworms/crickets.

As for fruits, there's plenty you can give them(search back for the list of fruits and such in this thread), NOT just apples. And yes, don't leave the apple till they turn yellow. Any untouched food should be discarded the following day and be replaced with a fresh one.

If you explore more on the fruits, you'll see some eagerness with some types of fruits and some not. Still, don't get discourage, cuz sometimes, what they don't eat today, they will tmrw and what they do today, they might not touch on other days.

You should give them a variety of fruits and mixes.

Wouldn't you get bored of eating the same thing every single day?

KP, ear wax single gliders got but very very little if they do not know how to groom well. Most pairs groom each other so I guess your gliders won't have it lah.

Yay! You got your joey already hahaha....

It's ok, the little guy just needs time to adjust. Let him be on your body lah. His hissing could means he wants your company.

Leave fruits in the morning. I always give some pear, apple and honey dew in the mornings... then at night 1 large tablespoon of mix but this is for adults lah. You can feed smaller amounts. But I think your joey can take 1 tablespoon of the mix. Fruits do give a nice variety. I always go to those hawker stall fruit sellers and buy the cut fruits to rotate the variety tongue.gif

Catfood? Did you do research before on catfood? Did you know that catfood can cause a disorder known as lumpy jaw, which could cause painful mouth sores. Since we do not have proper sugar glider vets here, we should never take this risk of feeding them catfood.

Also, no other fruits? Apples are just full of Vitamin C and A, very little minerals and also low in calcium.....

Catfood can only be given if it is made soft by moistening it with water or grind into powder and mixed into glider food.

Do you feed your gliders a good supplement mix?
