what do you mean have tracking even within malaysia? yes i'm using priority mail international from US. i'm buying a Dj Controller, i believe it is categories as Electronic Toys. will it be charged for tax? and how much will they charge? really need help ty.
*
well only priority mail international tracking starting with C/CP will have tracking after leaving USA ( will be automatically converted into poslaju within malaysia ) while other tracking like L will only having tracking till leaving USA then after that it's chance 50/50 if you can get it because it's become a normal parcel therefore no more tracking within msia.

yes electronic toys will have taxed. i saw a guy bringing in soft toys and he got taxed as well... you need to check at custom website because if you kena custom duty tax + sales tax ( which is based on ur real value *price of item+insurance+delivery* written on the invoice or box )

if you have the USA tracking number... you can check your tracking at trace-trace.com (very useful website!)

*
there are tracking number by priority mail... of course the tracking number would have to be given by the seller since they are the one posting the item out...

Hello. Need some help here. I'm planning to ship a hairdryer (price around 70pounds) from Maybank Borderlinx to Malaysia via DHL. Will i get taxed?
*
suppose to be below RM500 including shipping fees are not taxable.. but if your box/parcel is big enough... might be detained... however since you are using DHL, you can appoint DHL to do everything for you.

however hairdryer is electronic item ( 10% tax ) so u can pray and keep your fingers crossed that your item will be smooth sailing...

Scenario 1:

Lets say the parcel is forwarded by Fedex, is there any way to instruct the clearing agent to hold the parcel for personal clearance? I found that those clearing agent working in forwarding company simply tembak the HS code and resulted in hefty import duty. As such self clearance is better.
Scenario 2:

If the parcel is sent through normal airmail (15-21days), who will normally did the custom clearance? The goods always reach doorstep duty free but on high value item personal clearance is still preferred...
Question 3:

For parcel recipient in KL Selangor, we need to perform custom clearance in KOMPLEKS KASTAM situated near LCCT right? What will be the procedure like?
Question 4:

Assuming there are 2 items inside a parcel, 1 kena duty another no duty, can i open up the parcel and send back the kena duty item to the sender? Then clear out the duty free item?
TQ

Added on December 25, 2012, 2:35 pmIn addition, is it possible to reclaim back the import duty which wrongly pay due to wrong HS code suggested by the kastam?

The incompetence officer simply slab high duty using the wrong code and it was wrongly pay for. The duty was RM 2,000 for one single item.....
*
nope you cannot reclaim back money.. everything has to settle at the 1st time...

Scenario 1 : Self clearance is always better
Scenario 2 : Custom clearance normally takes about 1 hour ( fastest)
Question 3 : It depends on whether your item is air freight then it's at LCCT, sometimes if your item is not air freight it can get stuck at Port Klang Custom.
Question 4 : Nope, you cannot do that, you would have to pay the duty in order to take both items and not just take a single item...

Hi, I tried searching on the customs websites but couldn't find what I was looking for so hopefully someone can help me out!

I am thinking of asking a friend in the USA to send a kindle paperwhite to Malaysia via USPS Registered Mail. Is it a taxable item or will it get held up at customs?

Just curious, but what category would a kindle (e-reader) fall under? Computer?
*
please ask your friend to post the USPS Priority Mail International with tracking starting with C/CP so that you can track the item even after leaving US...

registered mail does not have tracking number so if the item is lost in mail ( too bad... ) because it's like normal parcel only so I would suggest that you avoid this postage.

if you want to avoid such hassle, there are people in lowyat forum selling the kindle paperwhite as well... and you would not need to worried about custom tax/delivery/time and everything

as for the tax, well your friend can put the value + shipping + insurance lower than RM500 ( as this value would be not taxable )

Thanks for your help, moniqee and UyxoR! I'm guessing since I got 2 different answers, it's a 50-50 chance I may get taxed huh?  biggrin.gif I guess with the malaysian customs, everything is a matter of luck and chance. Will ask my friend to use USPS Priority Mail International with tracking with the value at USD$100 and hope for the best!

Correct me if I'm wrong though, but if the customs officers consider the kindle as a computer item, it shouldn't be taxed right? I read in some of the previous replies that computer items aren't taxable?
*
well computer items are not taxable under the duty tax but it's taxable under the sales tax... there are 2 taxes.. ( custom tax/duty tax and sales tax ) so if you really want to avoid such hassle... I would really suggest that you get your kindle from lowyat sellers or when your friends comes back to Malaysia bring it along with him...

Is Laptop need to pay any SIRIM ?
*
i remember is no need but you need to purchase a declaration letter from pos msia that it's a high price item kua... it would cost you like around RM25+- (if the price has fluctuated) and you might need to collect your laptop from the custom...
