I bought a wireless alarm system on eBay and got a call from UPS today. They said I need import permit from Sirim.

What can I do now? I didn't get any letter from UPS/custom/Sirim. Should I just go to the custom (I am Penang) to get the custom letter, then go to Sirim (Prai,Penang) to apply import permit (the so called AP?) then go back to custom to be taxed and retrieve my package?

Or there is another way to get it without going thru Sirim import permit? Now I think the AP+tax will cost more than my RM350 wireless alarm system sad.gif

I guess mobile phones and MP3 players also require the same process? I once ordered a MP3 player from HK, the seller shipped via registered mail, post office did not even call me. The item was return back to HK, the seller and luckily the seller refunded me. sweat.gif

What are the requirements actually to get this import permit from sirim? Is it anybody also can apply or you have to have a company license or something like that?

Advice needed please...thanks very much notworthy.gif

I bought PDA phone from HK few months back, and was hold back by custom and was told to apply the AP from Sirim.

Went to Sirim and filled up a form and paid RM350/= for the AP.  It is very simple, they will give u a sample form as reference, u just follow the sample to fill up the application form.  The following day, I called up Sirim and inform them my file no and over the phone they give me my AP no and with that AP number, I went to custom to clear the item. And settle everything without any problem.

Initially I though they will require the device for testing or what, but surprisingly no one request the device from me during my present at Sirim office and also when I called up for the AP no.

BUT, roughly one month after I cleareed the item and are happily using it, I rcv a letter from Sirim saying that my application still pending due to I did not submit the device for testing...  hmm.gif

I wonder why I rcv this letter from Sirim, and if really the procedure that Sirim require the device for testing before approving and issuing the AP, then why in the first place they approved it and issued the AP to me without testing the device  blush.gif  weird weird weird .... or maybe that is what we call Malaysia Boleh  tongue.gif  biggrin.gif  rclxms.gif

Anyway, just to share my experience...

Hi mate...thanks so much for sharing that... notworthy.gif

So do u still send your device for testing?

So the fee will be RM350 no matter what is the value of your item and the quantity? Or is it RM350 for ONE unit of device?

By the way...wanna ask also if all states will have one sirim or it is only in certain states? Ipoh/Perak got SIRIM or not? blush.gif

Thanks so much notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

No lah, didn't bother to send, coz item already cleared and used for months already...

Anyway, am not sure is the fee is fix at RM350/= or not, coz I did asked the custom officer before I went to Sirim, according to the custom officer I need to pay RM250/=. But the Sirim officer asked to pay RM350/=, then I asked him how come so expensive, not RM250/= ? And he replied "Kalau buat business lagi mahal".  dry.gif  Then I just keep quiet and pay lor, what to do.

Ok here is the link to Sirim branches for your reference.

Good luck  smile.gif

By the way, anyone has any idea about FM transmitter? Is it subjected to this SIRIM thingy also? I have ordered a batch of this, one week already, tracking said that reach custom malaysia but just now I call EMS, the staff told me that my parcel still hold by customs sweat.gif

helo guys..just want to ask a noob question..do you guys know how much the postage fee from singapore to kl?lets assume the wight is 1kg?and is it the blu ray movie or games will be tax by custom?thanks in advance...

Not too sure on the Blu Ray disc...all these DVD and games are in grey area...maybe you can go to post office, there should be a custom counter there, where if you ordered something from overseas and got tax, you have to collect there one, ask the custom officer about the rules and regulations, is it permitted to import those Disc.

I dare not really comment as I am really not sure. Sorry about this...can't help much... blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

If I wanna buy blu ray from amazon.com, would i have any problems from the customs? Or as long as the CIF is less than RM500 then it's ok?
Does sending it as GIFT option will be taxless even if CIF is above RM500?

my friends recently ordered t-shirts from threadless.com, the CIF was rm625++, and they got taxed RM200, + RM50 for the customs agent fees.

All the above are for personal use.

Even though it is marked as "GIFT", if the value is high, and falls under taxable items category, there is a chance that you will still get taxed by customs.

I have a friend bought a LV wallet and post back from UK, too bad it is stated there GBP263, and it is leather, so the item was retained by custom and he has to go to post office to claim from the custom counter.

He was taxed RM79. My friend asked why it is a GIFT also kena tax? The officer told him that it is based on the value, and it is leather goods. If PVC is even more expensive! sweat.gif

Hi guys...

Are those slimming patch and detox patch considered cosmetics also? I tried to import some, but supplier told me might have problem with customs as their courier service told them the patch consists traditional medicinal powder, which is prohibited from sending via courier/air mail. The other issue is if our custom will require us to apply for special license for this.

Please advice...i want to get in for personal use.

Thanks so much!

Is digital video camera still tax free? I can't seem to access the tax rate details on custom website provided by thread starter.

Thanks
