check http://tariff.customs.gov.my/ to see if any tax incurred, but bear in mind that they always have a way to impose tax, talk smart & professional when dealing with them

Hi,

I am intending to purchase car audio equipment like headunits and speakers
from overseas websites.

Anyone had any experience whether the car audio equipment will be taxed
by Kastam?

Your views / experiences appreciated.

I am hoping someone can enlighten me on this. Does employing forwarders or logistics services to import cosmetics items lessens the chance of having my goods checked/ detain by pharmacy or customs? I know about cosmetics notification procedure for cosmetics brought in by companies, but what about for personal use then? Must notify the pharmacy dept also, else kena detained or worse confiscated?

Answer to above question. As long as you describe your item as electronics item you wont be taxed.(for car audio after all its a audio system, just dont mention the word car)

Second you may use better shipping (DHL/FedEX) they have their own clearance agent. In order to meet fast delivery deadline they will clear your item fast. in this process item get away tax most of the time.

From my experience I have bought stuffs over RM30k, few time got tax due to I had lather purse/shoes/jacket. Other than that never.

As my signature says, if you are planning to by from US let me know, i may be able to help.

thanks,
Sena

Now I got 1 item stuck at the custom, even though the item is being sent using EMS. Now is it cheaper to clear by other customs agent or using pos Malaysia. can recommend by pm ?

Depends. If you buy more than 1, if custom happen to check they'll suspect you're goona sell the items for profit and tax you. Sometimes if the item is still in unopened box also they'll suspect this, so normally ppl use the old "it's a gift for blablabla" excuse and pass the custom.

Normally I get rid of the box before I get back to Malaysia.

If she says warning this time, i think she will release. Did u have a tracking number? Perhaps you can check its status online or you send an email to pos malaysia to enquire, or you can call them. Just be careful that you dun pay money to any third party as there are ppl who tries to con ppl also, saying your goods are detained and must pay money thru some shady channels.
