what makes the customs held the parcels actually?

is it the size of the package?or the things inside?or the price of the things?

or they just simply held any parcels..??

Reading the many pages here, can summarise...DON'T buy from overseas online. The chances of getting taxed and tahanned @KASTAM DIRAJA MALAYSIA very high. Actually this department is one of the highest earning revenue department just a few years ago it was said. Now maybe more RMs as there is more traffic. Here are my dilemmas

1. I bought some makeup online from an established USA online shop with insurance. Being one of my first overseas online purchases have to be careful also, the value of the products are about rm80. It has been almost 7 weeks since the first shipment from the seller. After the 4th week, I emailed them to say the items have not arrived and they re-shipped so the 2nd shipment is almost 3 weeks 'old'. I am not optimistic it will arrive. So do i make a claim using the insurance I bought?

2. Me, also bought a book from another American online shop about a week after no.1, it is a 2nd hand book which i paid about rm20 and shipping us9. They don't have insurance but the bookseller has an almost 100% track record of delivery. I have written to them to inform them that the book has not arrived last week and the advised that i wait for another week. If it still doesn't arrive then they will re-ship another copy or refund. So now, after reading about our Kastam, i think i should just ask for refund. Hope no hassle and will get 100% refund but will it be only for the price of the book or along with the shipping cost? Please advice...

3. There are two items 1 is in a parcel (just a Football club jersey that is USED-with visible signs it is used and a DVD documentary) and another is a gift (necktie) in an envelope from Australia. Both were sent about 1 week apart. It has been almost 1 1/2 months since and no news. The senders just used normal air mail (not registered) to send it over. It should only take 10 working days for delivery!

All three situations, nobody has called or sent any letter to me. What should I do? Each parcel has items worth below even rm200.

Please advice me on what i should do, I do want the items which are so little monetary/resale value but of value to me. But it wouldn't be worth it to make the effort to go to LCCT and pay for exhorbitant taxes not to mention petrol etc! They shouldn't be in the first place right since it is sooo little? I can't get into our ol' kastam's website. Not surprised!

Pleaasseee help! Many, many thanks in advance! smile.gif

the more you buy from overseas the more chances your item will be 'lost'. Customs will record all your parcels. They will watch you. when you receive a parcels that got custom chop 'DITAHAN' but still you receive the parcels, thats mean you've been warned. Try use different address after few purchases.

To avoid items getting "lost" in the mail, I suggest you pay the additional fees for tracking. Always opt for international priority/international express mail with registered tracking when purchasing from the US - that way you can track the item every step of the way. Items bought without tracking tend to go missing without a trace. It's not worth purchasing stuff if you're not willing to put in the additional for tracking. But even then, I've had a couple of items go missing after customs opened my package for inspection and released it for delivery once before. But at least, the store I bought from was willing to resend the item without any issue. Forget about going to customs to try to pitch a fit there about your missing item. You have no proof.

As for what makes them hold a package, it depends on your luck, I suppose. Sometimes, huge boxes get released from customs without a hitch (no sign of it being opened even). Sometimes, tiny packages get taxed or packages get ripped open for a look see. There's really no trick to avoid customs. You just have to cross your fingers and toes.

And oh. Shipment from the UK always, always get taxed. Especially if it's from UPS. At least, that's been my experience. They charge exorbitant amounts too. Try to avoid purchasing from the UK if you're not willing to pay the fees. Even items marked as gift get taxed as some sort of value HAS to be written on the invoice by the seller.

ooooo....ok2...

i'm currently waiting for my package to be delivered by Airsure from UK.

My friend over there told me that she marked the parcel as gift and the value is 30GBP.

So, right now just tracking it everyday. Hope it'll pass the customs without much hassles..

If 30GBP should be no problem la. It's usually stuff that's above 50-100 pounds that get taxed. But again, it depends on your luck. Hope for the best then!

Guys, I have a problem.

I ordered just some cables (RCA, Toslink, etc) from Monoprice.com, totalling to about USD$180 (about US$70 shipping)

However, UPS called me this morning (5 minutes ago) and said that I have to pay a tax of RM280?!!!

I seriously went, "WTF?" because I do not know that I will be charged almost 50% tax! Now, what do I do?

I think it's tax + UPS service fee. I think previous replies to this thread mentioned the same problem with UPS exorbitant fees. Maybe you can deal with UPS to pick the item yourself at the Kastam to lessen their "service fees"?

They already took the liberty of taking out the item from Kastam department already, I think.

What kind of 'service fee' are they charging.. RM180?

Maybe you can ask them to list out the fees they are charging or where we can get that information.

Some links while searching for the fee cost mentions that even though no tax also UPS charge brokerage fee

Some not so positive reviews on UPS

20% + 10%

exp: rm1000 x 20% x 10% =tax rm320.

Hi,

Sorry for asking a question out of the topic, but does anybody know how to obtain the permit for importing cosmetics? I had been to BPFK's website but it wasn't too user friendly and not that informative either (too technical and confusing!). Could anyone help break down the steps and the charges for me? icon_question.gif

p/s I don't own a company but just a person who's like to buy skincare products. blush.gif

Thanks so much! biggrin.gif

1. Go to butterworth post office (custom section). The custom will give you manual or any info required to apply AP (permit). Then u musto go to SIRIM at permatang pauh, fill up some form then return back to butterworth post office. Then, the require u to make K1 form so the AP can be use to release the phone. 1 AP now cost Rm 100 (Before this Rm 200 then Rm 195) and the form will cost u Rm 49.50 plus 10% tax of mobile phone.

2. Appoint any certified Forwarding Agent. Wait at home and pay their bill.

* 1 AP can be use up to 3 phones same model and brand.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm just a noob.

Clothing: 30%

Based on what method of your postage, below Rm 500 (freight charges + value) there's no tax. If more than exemption value, tax applied to everything that have tax.

i want to ask did customs have or keep the record of unregistered parcel? mean the parcel do not have any tracking number. I just wondering can i phone call customs and provide my name and address to them to check whether my parcel is hold or detain by them? ...since these day our godlike postman is possible to forget to send the inform letter from customs.

Because i have 4 unregistered SAL parcel sent from japan at early of this month, 2 of the parcel which declare low value alrdy arrive, another 2 parcel which declare about rm300-400 each still not yet arrive...i wondering what happen.

i don't think they got record all the parcels.even when u call them, they will ask u for tracking code.no tracking code,no data.somemore its not possible for them to search for your parcel since they handled many parcels in one day.

Ya, I agreed with Nanakopy87.

Definitely not possible to check if no tracking number

What you can do is inform the seller about this and see whether there is a solution to this.
