Evening,

Does anyone know when will Tsukiji Fish Market relocate?

Planning to visit Tokyo my first time next year in most probably during August school holiday, 3rd week, and more in the future.
Is that a good time in terms of weather?

Did some search, it's hot and humid like Malaysia during that time, should be okay. Correct me if I'm wrong. Main purpose of the trip is to acclimatize myself to prepare for the 2020 Olympics, also held around late august early September, and FOOD trip.

Thank You.
*
Tsukiji Fish Market time line for relocation is no earlier than June 2018 - Tokyo Mayor.

Thank you. Was planning to visit the Tuna auction too, we'll see. At worst, will have to travel abit to Adachi Market.
*
Most welcome. Pls bare in mind that the places for Tuna Auction on are very very limited and to have any chance of even securing a place, one would have to be there at a ungodly hour - 3am maybe earlier depending. Good luck and happy travels.

Yea gotta wake up at 2AM. Where would you recommend first timers to stay at Tokyo?
*
Really depends on your budget and requirements. There are high end hotels at one end of the spectrum all the way to capsule hotels and business end hotels in the middle. You might want to consider a hotel that is accessible by airport limousine bus assuming you are jetting in from Narita. Haneda would be much nearer to town though. Also other things to consider about Tokyo hotels would be proximity to the subway and central to attractions.

Hotels around Shinjuku perhaps or hotels surrounding the Tokyo station.

Actually there is "Tuna action " at the fish market.  biggrin.gif

After the auction, the stall staff will demo how to cut the tuna, which part is what etc.

Lucky able to watch 1 of the stall demo cut the Blue fin tuna from Boston, US and record down the proccess.

Wish I can post the video here.

Yeah biggrin.gif Always a sight to behold especially for first timers. It’s part of the Tsukiji experience.

QUOTE(incredibless @ Nov 20 2017, 03:03 PM)
Hi, I will be traveling to Japan in March next year. Thus, here is the big picture of my itinerary.
This trip, I am more focus balance of city and scenery environment. Mix of both worlds. Any recommendations?

Also when comes to JR Line Pass - I saw it cost RM1k plus and must be purchased in Malaysia right?
Day 1
-Haneda Airport (Landing @ night 9.30pm).
-Hotel @ Shibuya (I am open to other recommendation for cheap yet cheerful accommodation).
-Roam freely around Shibuya surroundings for supper.

Day 2
-Breakfast at Shibuya area. (See See)
-Hachiko Status , Shibuya Crossing, Museum of Yebisu Beer & Garden Place.
-Cat Street, Tsutaya Daikanyama, Shopping areas
-Harujuku – Surrounding (see see)
-Snoopy Museum at Roppongi (Night).

Day 3 – (Saturday)
-Ginza – shopping and see see
-Ikebukuru
-Shinjuku (Metropolitan Building –Night)

Day 4 – (Sunday)
-Trip to Yokohama
-Visit Cup Noodle Museum
-China Town, Hakkeijima Sea Paradise, Moto Machi Shopping Street, Lalaport, Red Brick Warehouses
-Yokohama Ramen Museum
-Mount Fuji (TBC)

OR (Another Option) – But traveling going to be time-consuming & costly.
Ibaraki Prefecture
-Fukurade Falls – 2hours from Tokyo
-Oarai Iso Sakis Shirine
-Hitachi Seaside Park

Day 5 – (Monday)
-Disneyland (Whole day?)
-Surrounding of Odaiba / Chiba Prefecture

Day 6
-Ueno District & Asakusa
-Ueno Park, Ueno Izayaka-Machi, Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Garden, Nadeshiko Asakusa Ekimise,
-Asakusa Culture & Toursim Center, Sensoji Shrine.

Day 7
– Mostly tag along the JR Yamato (Line)
-Shinjuku,
-Ikebukuro - Kit Kat Store, Seibu Dept Store.
-Roppongi

Day 8 - Flight is night flight (11pm)
-So thinking to tag around Hadena area.
This is my first time to Japan and hopefully, there are some recommendations.

There are also a few places under my list but I am not sure whether is worth to go.  sweat.gif  unsure.gif

1. Tobu World Square,
2. Kusatsu Onsen
3. Railway Museum
4. Kamakura
5. Kawogoee

Your day 5 Disneyland will be a whole day and even then it’s doubtful you will finish the whole park. Plan your fastpass tickets carefully. U intend to skip DisneySea?

Yes will only focus Disneyland. Where can i purchase the tickets in advance besides klook? Fast pass tickets? Care to share more about it?
*
I have always bought my tickets at the hotel since I prefer to stay there for the duration I am in Disney so I am afraid I cant help you with the cheaper ticket part. The advantage of staying at the Disney Hotel's is I am guaranteed tickets and other privileges. FastPass is essential especially if you are attempting to try to finish Disney in a day. i would really like for a week but the budget is overkill lol. feel like so wasted go for few days sweat.gif

prolly 3k now included accom

and everytime i read ppl on budget go there is eat ramen?  hmm.gif
*
Totally understand. Just that the Yen is low and that’s one factor in your favour. Ideally at least a week and the very first time is magical - it can be a culture shock for the unprepared smile.gif

If u mean language, don’t worry about it. Most people have this perception that it will be hard to travel in JPN due to the language barrier - it’s not quite true. You will get by especially in major cities. The school going Japanese population are actually taught English, they just lack the practice and shyness. Even when they don’t speak the language, they will try very hard to help out even so much as going out of their way to do so.

After so many years of Japan and it’s local culture, the only draw back I feel nowadays is sometimes being mistaken for Chinese mainlanders.

Go forth and conquer! You will be better off from the enriching experience gained.

The bolded part - how did you know they thought you're a Chinese mainlander? And what did they do?

In Japan, I usually only speak Cantonese or English, and avoids Mandarin at all cost. Now that I look back, it's lucky/ good - I've been travelling with kakis who speaks either only English or Cantonese hmm.gif
*
Well they assume u are mainlander since u are Chinese. Their attitudes changes as soon as u make it known that u aren’t. Also I have a big group of Japanese friends and associates and they also actively make it known to strangers that we aren’t mainlanders. I don’t hang around the tourist belt much so among the local community it makes a difference.

Hmmmmm same like the French especially Parisians. But that's a story for another day.

Well I think there's no need to make extra effort to let people know you're not a Mainlander. Just be normal and speak English or language other than Mandarin.
When you can speak Japanese, their perception towards you are already on the better/ positive side.
Japan government thank them for the economy boost. So it's a love-hate relationship with the Mainlanders. Love their money but hate their attitude.
*
No need to make effort, it’s just the initial impression.

Regardless, it’s the mainlanders that fuel their economy and like it or not they bare with it and do not make things difficult. In fact, they have made much effort to learn the language especially in big electrical stores in order to cater to mainlanders.

In spite of what some here say, I do not begrudge mainlanders - in time they will learn the proper etiquette and blend in just like any other tourist. They have the buying power and all that’s needed is social grace.
