as far as i know, only disney dun allow tripod, selfie stick or anything tht would cause trouble. observation deck tht i've been to so far r ok with it but ya its still best to ask first
*
Yeah that's why I mentioned to ask first. However, it's troublesome to others because you're blocking off the space and people have to watch out for your tripod. As you may also realize, most observatories aren't very big and usually pretty crowded especially the popular ones.

If anyone tripped on his tripod, he will be deemed as someone inconsiderate for causing harm.
Unless there's very few people in the observation deck, or the area is really spacious - then that's fine (provided with permission).

Anyone here have experience on this sim card?
https://hello1010.my/japan-unicom-sim

I'm travelling alone so I guess it's better for me to just get a sim. The last time I went there I rent a pocket wifi.

I looking for good connection and many data.
*
Recommended this SIM card provider since 3-4 months back. I have used it in Tokyo and it's good.

QUOTE(incredibless @ Dec 10 2017, 12:30 PM)
No issue on the network band? Coz I read that the Sim card will depend on whether your phone support it. I'm thinking to buy this Sim card and act like hotspot by my phone.
*
Cannot vouch for other countries but if it's Japan, the provider is Softbank and it's very reliable.

Is travelling to Osaka/Tokyo around April/May (next year) a good time to see Sakura blooming?
Any recommendation if want to plan for a few days (3d2n) if want to see sakura trees?
What's the temperature like around April/May in Osaka/Tokyo?

Sakura season - April.

I think the last 2 questions you can try this: www.google.com

You've done your research, it's good.
There's a lot in Tokyo that you'll miss due to the stay'/ travel in Osaka-Kyoto.

Tokyo Sky Tree - I won't place my bet on that to view Mt Fuji. Not sure about the observation deck, but all the best.

Hi, I hope it's okay if I ask for some confirmation about transportation - specifically on bus ticket reservation from Shirakawago to Takayama.

Just a bit of context: my trip is going to be Tokyo -> Kanazawa -> Shirakawago -> Takayama -> Tokyo.

So far, I've managed to book bus tickets online to get me from Kanazawa to Shirakawago. The website that I've booked from is https://japanbusonline.com/.

However, I've been looking for bus tickets that get me from Shirakawago to Takayama, and I can't seem to find this route option for online booking. I was wondering if this option memang is not available for reservation?

From what I've read online, I believe it should also be possible to get bus tickets on the day itself (probably just need to get to the counter early to buy the tickets?), but I would be more comfortable being able to make reservations.
*
Shirakawa-Go back to Takayama? We took a bus from Shirakawa-Go and it will drop you off at a bus station. From there, we took another bus to Takayama train station. We used the seishun 18 kippu for all the travelling from Nagoya >> Takayama >> Shirakawa Go >> Takayama >> Nagoya.

hi guys, thanks  for the feedback. Appreciate it.

For Tokyo, anymore interesting place that can recommend/must go? Where else would be better to get nice view of Mt Fuji? Still deciding whether to do TOKYO-OSAKA-KYOTO-TOKYO or just stay in Tokyo for the duration of my trip. The reason why not considering disneysea is because plan to go USJ already. Do not want too much theme park in single trip. smile.gif
*
There's a lot in Tokyo. Places such as Ueno, Nakano, Odaiba, Ginza, Tsukiji, Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Station, Imperial Palace, Sengakuji, Mitaka, Yokohama, Nikko, Kamakura etc. You can do a lot of side trips from Tokyo as well.

Common places to view Mt Fuji - Hakone and lake Kawaguchi. There's a higher chance to see Mt Fuji from Kawaguchiko.

It's not really higher chance, just a closer look (and, IMO, better view) if the weather permits. The chance is the same both both actually. smile.gif
*
Definitely clearer and bigger like you mentioned biggrin.gif

However friends who has been to both agreed that it's higher chance to see it in Kawaguchiko. Nothing is absolute though, still depends on weather.

Thanks for the reply. smile.gif I take it that you bought the bus ticket in Shirakawago on the day itself? Seishun 18 doesn't include the bus, right?
*
Yes seishun 18 kippu only inclusive of train rides. There's a trade off. While it's cheaper, we're limited to only Rapid and Local train; meaning it's a longer ride to our destination with cheaper price. And Seishun 18 Kippu ticket isn't like JR pass. It's calculated by number of usage per ticket.

"This ticket package includes five days worth of travel for only 2,370 yen per day. One person can enjoy the Seishun 18 for five days, or it can be split for use by up to five people."

Also dont forget that seishun 18 is seasonal and not always available. Can get you from Hiroshima to Tokyo in one day for just 2370 yen a day! Start at 12:30 midnight and reach 8PM in tokyo. smile.gif
*
Oh yes, it's seasonal. We managed to bought it on the last day it was available. So kancheong... first thing we did upon arrival to Nagoya city was to get to JR counter and ask for the tickets. Luckily managed to get it. Must say, my friend was absolutely good in planning laugh.gif

Hiroshima to Tokyo for 2,300+ yen ohmy.gif cheap!! but almost 24 hours journey laugh.gif nice if you go make stops along the way.

That is super cheap....can do it while I am a student. Not now. Most are local trains and seats are too stiff. Those days there were no apps about schedule. So I have to rely on the JR timetable that is about 100pages thick which they publish every month. I think its all train timetable in Japan except Hokkaido and Okinawa.
*
Oh no that sounds hard. Since the only reliant is on the booklet... If traveler is not in Japan, can't plan ahead. And usually it's in Japanese as well sweat.gif

But it's very convenient to have this booklet. Too bad it changes every month. Imagine the staffs have to re-plan the routes each month... that's alot of hard work.

Hi,

If i want to rent pocket wifi, should i rent from Malaysia or Osaka instead? any recommendations?

Thank you so much!
*
Depends on how many people are going together. If there's only 2-3 of you, I'll suggest SIM card instead of pocket Wifi.

You can get your SIM here: https://hello1010.my/country/asia/japan.html

Issues with pocket WIFI:
- Someone has to carry the WIFI with him/ her all the time.
- Have to ensure it doesn't run out of battery (power bank is definitely needed).
- It's hard to split up. When you do, only the person holding the WIFI router has connection.

As such, i prefer SIM; unless you don't mind the above and there's 4-5 of you travelling together and want to budget.

Just an additional option for you to consider.

hi guys, any comments on this day trip tour Mount Fuji + Hakone? Is it worth it to get for around RM 400 after applying discount code? Or can plan better free and easy on my own..thanks

thanks.
*
So little in the itinerary yet it's pricey. Won't recommend that.

The 2-days Hakone Pass costs you 5,000+ yen which is approximately RM200 or less (due to drop in exchange rate).
Get your own pass and explore without the tour. The pass in inclusive of the train ride from Shinjuku to Hakone Yumoto station. If you want to arrive earlier/ faster, top up a little to ride the romancecar which can get you there in a little more than 1hr from Shinjuku.

will it be good option if i take budget airline from Tokyo to Osaka?
*
hmm.gif why budget airline? The cost is a lot cheaper than Shinkansen?

Given the same choice, think I'd go with shinkansen unless you land in Narita and you're flying almost immediately to Osaka. Otherwise the time and amount spent travelling to airport, the flight, plus landing and getting your stuffs etc is easily about the same as shinkansen (or even more).

I've checked both Vanila Air and Peach Air, about 6000yen for 1 way, where else Shinkansen is about double of it
*
Then that's decent. No reason not to consider flight, apart from the trouble of having to go through all the check points laugh.gif

Actually if you fly from Haneda there is only one check point which is the security check point. It just like taking a shinkansen. But then if I were to go to Osaka from Tokyo, for business I will just take the shinkansen. However if its further south like Hiroshima of Fukuoka I will take flight. Tried once to Fukuoka and it was damn tiring for 5-6 hours....flight just 1 hour.
*
I see. I find flight troublesome hmm.gif you know, with boarding and all. Shinkansen is faster and hassle free. Given a choice with all conditions the same, I'd still choose shinkansen for the comfort (more spacious than planes!) if the train ride is 2-3 hours. But yes if train ride is 5-6 hours vs flight 1 hour, the latter is definitely better. Unless you wanna enjoy the scenery hahaha.

This site is selling: https://shinkansen-ticket.com/?gclid=CjwKCA...axoCdH0QAvD_BwE

Any idea whether they're an authorized agent or simply an independent agency?

Can still reserve though? Not sure how the payment goes as it's not elaborated.

the Jr east site not available for Tokaido line biggrin.gif

Have you ever purchase Platt Kodama ticket?
http://www.jrtours.co.jp/kodama/en/
*
Eh yeah, don't have to Osaka/ Kyoto on JR site. Previously mine was pre-purchased by the travel agency since it was a tour.
Kodama? Seems more like an agency with tours. Have not come across it.

Not easy to secure the Shinkansen tickets for Tokyo-Osaka beforehand. Guess it's either you purchase through agency (in which case they may hike up a little for their commission) or buy it when you're there hmm.gif

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Dec 22 2017, 09:53 AM)
Did not know that this site exist. I am outdated already. smile.gif I check the "about us", I guess its and independent agency.

As for the JR site, payment is via credit card. Did not know that english site exist.
*
You're more accustomed to Hong Kong system now biggrin.gif

Then meaning now can purchase shinkansen ticket directly on JR's site for other routes. It's a good thing for overseas traveler.

Day 1 - Reach Tokyo
Day 2~5 - Tokyo
Day 6 - Tokyo -Hakone daytrip using Hakone free pass
Day 7 - Tokyo - Lake Kawaguchiko
Day 8 - Tokyo - Kyoto
Day 9~10 - Kyoto
Day 11 - Kyoto - Osaka daytrip
Day 12 - Kyoto - Nara daytrip
Day 13 - Kyoto - Tokyo
Day 14 - Fly back from Tokyo

I will be travelling during April
I intend to use JR pass from Day 7~13
I am travelling with 2 preschool kids
*
Just one day in Osaka is a tadbit short. Travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto and back took up the time you have for sightseeing.

Yea i know, cause of the plane ticket... 😅 Have to waste a trip back to Tokyo...
But for osaka, i actually don't find much things to do... I am traveling with two kids, so that rule out night outings... I only plan to go osaka aquarium and Osaka castle and fit whatever else is possible...
Is there any must go in Osaka?
*
Also depends on what you like. Street shopping like Dotonbori may take some people several hours to half a day to go around including makan.
You can also also go up Observation Deck in places like Umeda to check out the Osaka view. There are shrines, spa/ onsen and shopping districts that's worth checking out as well.
These are merely recommendations btw.

I plan to go there this coming wednesday. its kinda spontaneous trip with my wife. anyone can recommend for internet usage over there? Because not sure what to use. Any recommendation would be helpful.

Roaming comes with a high price. You can either rent a portable WIFI or get a SIM card.

Optionally, if you're staying in AirBnB, check if the host will provide you with the portable WIFI. Some of the hosts do that, and you can save on Internet if they do.
