3090 and 3080 running on gddr6x, junction temp easily hits 100-108C while mining. sometimes will have error stating too hot, performance degraded. spend some time oc and experiment to find your optimal limit and monitor your card to know more about its limit.

It is recommended to upgrade the thermal pads, paste. add more if the aib doesnt comes with back plate thermal pads contact. managed to bring it down 70 to 80C +- in thermal controlled environment.

temp to look out for
gddr6x started to fry above 110C
will die very soon upon 120C.

if you have budget go for water cooling.

Possible for newbie like me, i mean really damn new for all these things to replace the thermal pads/paste?
I swear i'll be very becareful, but im afraid i'll void the warranty or break something else
Budget is not a problem, just don't had any knowledge at all rclxub.gif

plenty of online resources available, make sure you buy the right paste and pads. dont get liquid metal.
pads can go for chinese manufactured. Look out for gpu compatible ones, safest just buy minus pads.

Gpu are not so easily broken, just dont unplug the fan and led with force. stickers to remove with ease use stationary blade, the sharp kind.
read around, do your research, buy the spare parts <-- dont buy just enough, a little more is fine just incase you screwed up.

Great to know budget is not an issue so you will have fun during the learning curve with all the trial and error can be done onto it.

Dell ones are easier compared to the other aib.

Have fun. rclxm9.gif

Checked some youtube video
Ordered thermal paste, 3.5g for RM58 wow doh.gif
Gonna break into my 3090 and mod it, hopefully i wont break anything
The 1st day i receive my R12 3090, i break the Sata power cable socket rclxm9.gif
I asked a technician friend come and check, end up using another power socket, so you know how new i am sad.gif

erm... how did you managed to break the sata power socket?

if you're really new in this, better ask you technician friend or someone that has done it before to reapply the thermal paste for you

ermmm, i open the dell r12 side panel, swing the psu to fully open, then it bengkok the HDD socket placed infront cover which HDD placed above of the front intake fan.
I asked my technician friend, they'd totally no idea for thermal paste gpu, and keep warning me that i'll void the dell warranty (actually will it void?)
Im gonna replace the thermal paste myself, wish me goodluck bruce.gif

Do you think keep expanding GPU currently is still good idea?
How do you determine when to 'stop' expanding GPU and collect profit?
Once ETH changed to PoS, what is your opinion for the profitability decrease to mine other coin?

IMO now GPU farming is still the safest bet
if you can get hold of GPU stock at a good price, why not?

even if the market crashed until it's no longer profitable to mine any coins, you still can sell off the GPUs easily unlike the ASIC miner, they will be almost worthless and difficult to resell

with GPU mining, there are still plenty of coins out there for you to mine once ETH2.0 is here, like you can try to mine Ravencoin now, it just need more resources compared to mining Eth
*
I'm not familiar with mining alt coin like RVN or others
I can imagine/predict, once unable to mine ETH, there'll be a 'gamer revenge activity like 'lets say no to mining card' or etc.
And it'll earthquake for a month, then everything back to normal again, big mining farm will still get those discounted GPU and expand again
btw what's the lifespan of card like 3080/3090 ? let's say 24/7 working vram temp at 96 degree?
These 2 top tier card always have vram temp issue, while 3070 or below normally doesn't had these vram issue

edit: i did mining ETC on my laptop with 4gb card with GPU temp 52-59, if i change to mine alt coins, the settings is not an issue for me hmm.gif

life span of 3080/90 depends on how you see, 3 to 4 years should be no issues. early adopters already made their money back and enjoying profits.
Vram temp issue is also human error issues. there are alot of ways to bring it down.. like constant 70C.
I did managed to lowered my 3080/90 from 108c vram temp to 86-96 by thermal paste & pad, but how 70c notworthy.gif

Maybe install custom liquid cooling? or on air-con 24/7 ,lol~

I doubt if any big player modify all their 3080/90 to custom liquid cooling hmm.gif
What i research from random google search, 3080/90 vram below 90 is consider very decent hmm.gif
But 70c icon_question.gif Please pm me if anyone can make 70c notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Gonna place 3090 for the riser shakehead.gif
Just wish to double confirm, it is not recommended to use 6 Pin > Sata from PSU to power up the riser (i have a free sata from PSU)
My 3090 will need 2 pcie 8 pin, but my PSU only have 2 x 6+2 pin
Can i use 8 pin splitter to 2 x 8pin to power up my 3090?
And another 6+2 pin for my riser?

Or, 2 x 8pin splitter, 1 for riser, 1 for 3090, another 8pin directly from PSU notworthy.gif

Does CPU mining really make some profit?
I feeling like CPU working hard and the fan humming, making heat while making penny profit only after electricity cost

My hashrate for Intel i9 11900k RTM 1.1k hashrate, is that normal?
Used to mine XMR, approx 6k hashrate if i remember correctly
Simple search and i found out that seems intel are not friendly for RTM

Rtm benefit the most on the big L3 cache on ryzen compared to Intel.

Intel wasn't great at monero either. R5 3600 hitting 8k hash btw.
*
That's why i doubt the profitability for CPU mining (Intel user)
So conclusion is ryzen is more efficiency then intel in terms of cpu mining hmm.gif
