guys,
i am learning towards RB and looking for one now. I. have a few options: EMC Brand: RM4400 full carbon 105 full groupset 8.5kg Merida brand: RM4800 full carbon 105 full groupset 9.3kg example above, shall i go for EMC or Merida? Is RB purely on the weight to perform better? |

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Mar 21 2018, 11:15 AM) Not purely but a huge factor that cause adverse momentum shift as cycling like many other speed related sports, its effectiveness is highly but not solely dependent on countering momentum and drag. As the bike gets heavier and as the gradient of the terrain gradually shifts upwards, the weight penalty will be more obvious and discernible. I see. Ok. Thank you bro. That said, many professional cyclists nowadays pay more attention towards the aerodynamic benefits than the weight of the bike. Losing a couple of excess kilograms is a lot cheaper and unequivocally more beneficial, health and performance wise, than having a lighter bike which is an endless quest. what do you guys suggest? 1. Buy full carbon with ultegra groupset. compromise on the wheelset. 2. Buy full carbon with 105 groupset. Get a bit better wheelset. My budget is just around 5k. |

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Mar 22 2018, 05:50 PM) Iād assume that at that price point, the bike will come with the 6800 iteration rather than the newest 8000 models. Yes bro. This is for RM6500. What are wheelsets offered? 7.3kg only Carbon Toray 700 frameset (RM2500) Fully Ultegra R6800 groupset (RM2600) Fizik Cyrano R3 dropbar Prolite stem AL7075 EvoPro 50mm Carbon wheelset (RM2000) Panaracer Catalyst Sport 700x23 tyres Another one I am consider this: Rm4500 8.5kg Full carbon frame Fully 105 5800 groupset Wheelset alloy 20/24H Uno 3D forced Alloy Stem Last one is this for RM5700. http://www.lapierre-bikes.co.uk/gamme/2017...nce/sensium-500 Between this three, which one is better in terms of price ratio with performance? Worth to pay more for above bike? This post has been edited by Seng_Kiat: Mar 22 2018, 07:58 PM |

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Mar 23 2018, 11:20 AM) from a layman's standpoint, carbon fibre frames are pretty much generic and there are certainly truths in that belief but the brand, although superficial but unfortunately plays a significant role when it comes to determining the value of a bicycle and also the fact is that once you get mired into the murky world of spending money on road cycling parts, this price point is not at all significant and a relatively unknown wheelset at RM2,000.00 often fetch nothing close to the value back in the used parts market. Thank you bro for the feedback. So Lapierre it is! Any shop selling lapierre bike other than TBFS in klang valley? ThanksAnd because of that, it is understandable why our miaopurr cat's slave(the conceited self declared cat's boss) favours the Lapierre and I would too. That being said, the 6800 is still a relatively desirable group set and apart from the novelty of the new R8000, it did not fail me(with proper maintenance and replacement parts every 2-3months of course) when I had it on my bike for more than 3 years. I'd however still pick the Lapierre for the reputation and for its resale value. |

QUOTE(lilredridinghood @ Mar 31 2018, 11:12 AM) pemalas Thank you brother. šš»Seng_Kiat I send my bike for service every 2-3 months but that's based on my own volume which is 95-140km per week outdoor and 3.5hrs per week indoors. I wipe the chain and pulleys after every outdoor rides, apply dry lubricant on the chain every week prior to my outdoor rides and will degrease, wash everything lazily but thoroughly after riding through rainy weather because of extra adhesive gunk on the chain and pulleys, tiny particles of sands and grime will likely get washed and splashed into the slits and crevices between the crank arms and the bottom bracket as well as the headset thus adverse weather conditions will hasten the need for maintenance unless you have the necessary tools(TORQUE WRENCH IS CRUCIAL) and is not as mechanically inept as some of us here are. Adroit mechanics are usually busy and highly sought after especially nearing or just after a race event, therefore rapport with the LBS is crucial if you want your bike within a day or two and do not mind paying the full amount which is about RM150-200.00. Also this is why some of us here incessantly advocate cyclists to support the LBS. |
