dont think so. coz current gen not many or any games region locked their disc or servers for mp. i bought a few R2 games can easily group up with my R3 disc friends & you still get matchmake with SEA based players.
Sooo many time already I said this to my friend or random netizen. For console players your disc region doesnt dictate which server you are in. you ISP(TM, Maxis, etc) does. unless they the dev says otherwise(1st time notice this is for Splatoon 2 for Splatfest only. JP & Euro have their own) or there's no server available to use. they will reroute the closest to your ISP.
Is thousand farking eighteen yet people still have this mindset
it aint pre 2000. where online gaming is niche market. my experience in X360, X1, PS4 & Switch they all use the same algorithm for matchmaking online. Even on PC is also the same but you can choose which servers.
