We checked with our engineers and their response is that generally it is fine to simply turn down the volume in the front of the speakers, if you are not switching it off for a long period of time.

If you are switching it off for about a few days, its probably better to switch it off by the power switch on the speaker.

And if you're going off on a holiday for a week, simply for safety reasons, it's best to switch it off using the mains.

It doesn't make that much of a difference to the durability of the speaker, but rather the main issue is safety and how long the speaker is going to be left inactive. =)
