I only managed to get ONE match out of 30+ mins total of waiting time. When it works, the game is brilliant.

Either ways, from what I can practice in the tutorial modes - game is fairly simple yet with some depth to it. I'd say it's a mixture of the old Budokai/Burst Limit games with GG/BB influence, in a 2D space. Easy to pick up, requires some dedication to be good at is what I'm saying.

Too bad time is so limited, can't really experiment more.

seems character list not much.

Quality > quantity. What's the point of having over 50 characters when half of them does the same shit? Skin swaps?

Don't forget there will be DLC characters as well.

Preordered it.
I hope I did not make a bad decision.
Didn't like dissidia much during the closed beta.
I don't usually pay full price for a fighting game.

Did that for xenoverse2 and I didn't like it.
*
This is a pure fighter, not xenoverse scrub fighter. Different games.

Easy to pick up, but it's going to take some dedication to get good at. So far I think the game is fairly balanced, there are some oddities here and there but it's definitely one of the most balanced 2D fighters on the market right now. So if you keep getting pummeled by something, it doesn't mean it's broken - it just means you don't know how to handle a said move that is wrecking you.

will it have open world?

No. Why would it have open world?

I like the original budokai a lot.
Though from gameplay footages, this reminds me of marvel vs capcom 3.
*
It's MvC tag system with Guilty Gear and Blazblue combat mechanics coupled with projectiles derived from the PS2 Budokai series. Directly comparing it to the Budokai series beyond that makes little sense because Budokai was a 3D fighter, this is a 2D one.

The game is designed to be the "Overwatch" of 2D fighters, where anyone can pick it up and have fun playing.

The original dragon ball budokai was 2D.
I'm not talking about budokai tenkaichi.
*
Yes, I'm talking about Budokai - developed by Dimps. Budokai Tenkaichi isn't even a fighting game, no one gives a shit about that.

All of them were 3D fighters:

Proof Budokai 1 - Frieza just sidestepped left at 0:08.

Proof Budokai 2 - Both Cell and Goku sidestepped left and right at the beginning of the match.

Proof Budokai 3 - Goku sidestepped right at 0:23 to avoid Cell's kamehameha.

I think you are mistaken about what a 2D and 3D fighter is?

Ah forgotten the side stepping part. It's been so long ago.
The older budokai looks like they age badly too.

Either way, I am one of those casual players who don't really pay attention too much to these details. As long as they're fun. And as I've just paid full price for it, it better be.
*
I think it's extremely fun for the casuals. You can indeed mash buttons and get your fun out of this game, but it won't get you out of the "kids pool" to put it bluntly.

I mean casual or not, it's essential to learn some of the very basic fundamentals of the game. Knowing how to block highs, mids and lows, learning that dragon rush spamming can be easily countered, learning how and when to teleport, these are extremely basic stuff. You don't have to learn the frame data, you don't have to understand "footsies" and you don't have to dwell with advanced strings and combos - but learning the fundamentals will prolong your fun with this game.

open world game should be fun.

if they add la.
*
Open world design simply doesn't work in this game. Walk up to NPCs, initiate a quest, go to another NPC and then initiate a fight? What's the point? Wasting time.

if open world wasting game, no ppl play open world. atleast can visit dragon ball world instead fight fight fight. more story then.

morally u may right.

i am not racism just to play a type of game. i play all.
*
What are you even talking about?

I'm not saying open world games are a waste of time. I'm saying, specifically for this game alone - open world does not work due to how it is designed.

Not the game's problem. PSN has been having downtimes, slowdowns and irregular spontaneous "maintenence" in the last 2 days. It's still happening now.

The vanish attack to wall bounce after a combo starter has quite a peculiar timing to it. Not sure what I'm missing, but I can't land a consistent wall bounce with vanish 100% of the time.

It's most odd with combos that goes something like: H, S, M+H (vanish), super/meteor/whatever.
For whatever reason, the S into M+H has an extremely strict timing to it, otherwise the opponent will not bounce off the wall to be stunned long enough for a follow up ender.

I play in SK server, surprisingly most matches has been 4 bars with a 3-4 frames delay. So it's relatively pretty damn good.

Bonus is, people don't rage quit in SK server but you just be prepared to get your ass kicked inside out.

Actually the game uses delay-based netcode just like BB and GG. So as long as both sides are not dropping packets like crazy by using wifi, the lag is minimal.

I'm still playing story mode, the first arc. Haha.
@SSJBEN any review on the sound quality of this game?
*
I like that they pulled a lot of the sound effects from the anime. Only playing with JP voices, so they're all there - the original VAs. That's all cool. It's the Dragon Ball sound we know and love.

I'm also o-kay with majority of the soundtracks, the only minor quip is that they do not have an infinite loop so after each track is done it just start from the beginning again. Only a minor hindrance during training mode and not anywhere else though.

Unfortunately the audio files are not of the highest quality sampling rate, I can definitely hear clipping if I push the volume too high. Also, do not go above 85 in the game's volume settings as well - that will cause distortion.
Another annoying thing is that voices/sound effects can also clip if you reset the screen position in training mode - like in the midst of an attack.

Otherwise really not much else to say about the game's audio. It's about as decent as any anime fighters I think.

QUOTE(Shinka @ Feb 2 2018, 11:56 AM)
I agree with Ben, I thought there was a problem with the sound coming out of my soundbar. The sound effects in the game is rather devoid of any bass and can sound quite shrill at high volumes.
*
Most of the effects has a roll off at around 100hz or so, which is correct in regards to the original 90s recording from the anime. So there's very little LFE or even deep bass (40hz region) in the game. Most of explosions uses the mid-bass (80-100hz) regions to accentuate the impact. It's very close to the original recordings, as I've said.

To explain your setup, most soundbar's 2-inch drivers cannot provide enough output to cover the 80-120hz region and most subwoofers that comes with soundbars does not cover the 100-120hz region properly either. This is why you hear a void in the soundstage.

No one is confirmed.

But expecting -

Broly
Bardock
Super Vegito
Super Buu
Zarbon/Dodoria (either of them or maybe both of them like Android 18/17)
Uub *
Base form Goku *
Base form Vegeta *

* means that I fully expect bamco to F us over with lazy characters because they'd like to short change people with the season pass. It has happened, I'm not surprised it'll happen again.

Not exactly a rumor, it's an open secret. Bamco wants to support this game for at least 2 years before a sequel, so a "season 2 pass" is actually already in the works

I said "season 2 pass", but what I really meant is more characters will be coming after the initial 8. Whether those future characters will be sold in a pass or not remains to be confirmed, but point is there WILL be more characters.

Fused zamasu looks really ugly.
We need fused vegito and UI Goku !

I’m finally getting a really cheap stick.
The hori mini. Will try out with this game.
*
Vegito blue is confirmed.
UI Goku is not.

Most people concur that the Hori mini is a terrible stick. Too small, slides all over the place. Hopefully you'll find some fun out of it.

Before splurging a thousand on a decent stick, it’s best to try out a cheaper one first.
Unless you’ve a better stick at the same price point to recommend ?
*
Nothing is cheaper than a Hori mini.
But a Qanba drone doesn't cost that much more - https://www.play-asia.com/qanba-drone-arcad...stick/13/70al3l

Unfortunately, the Hori mini simply does not give you a proper impression of a full sized stick in any way other than the lever - which isn't even that good to begin with.

Also full sized sticks don't cost a thousand. A Hori RAP V only costs RM499.
