And so, Sia announces Obelisk's Sia ASICs : https://www.reddit.com/r/siacoin/comments/6...s_full_details/

The problem is, a lot of people are not happy with the terms and regulations of pre-ordering the miner at USD2.5k which will only come out in March or June 2018!

I like the idea of securing the network by having dedicated ASICs. I mean, they are providing cloud storage that has to be 100% reliable with 100% uptime. However, it looks like they need to iron out the process of getting those ASICs to end-users. From the looks of it, majority are unhappy.

The only worry I have is whether Obelisk (the company) can deliver on those ASICs which is still on the drawing board!

And o my. Market reaction was an immediate crash rclxub.gif

HODL or dump, I can't advice you on that. wink.gif

I'm HODLing for now and will see what happens when the dust settles. It's not bad news per se. Sia's team have a lot of explanation and damage-control to do to address the unhappiness surrounding the ASIC.

The only thing I'm thinking is the ASIC would not affect Siacoin's development in anyway. The ASIC is meant to strengthen the network. If it was never produce, produce in a few months or comes out years later doesn't really affect the core development of Siacoin's cloud storage.....  hmm.gif

Oh well, will sleep on it and see what happens tomorrow.  smile.gif

My sentiments as well. It will be ironic if they become an ASIC company years down the road instead of decentralized cloud storage.

Do note that Siacoin's team and obelisk are two different entities under the same company:
*
Precisely that they are under the same company that if one fails the other will become the core driver.
Basis of operation for MNCs with multiple drivers.

Sia's developmental rollout in parallel with Obelisk's will shed some light in the road ahead. Hopefully.

Need clarification on the use of Ledger Nano S.

If i already have private key wallet on MEW, can i directly transfer this wallet to Ledger Nano S ?
Or do i have to manually send the cryptocurrencies to a chrome/MEW based wallet tied to the hardware wallet ?
If presumably the latter, there would be GAS transaction fees right ?

No you cant transfer mew wallet to ledger nano s.

Yes you need to transfer the coin/token in the mew to your ledger wallet,
If its erc20 token better pair the ledger nano s with mew.(if you use the eth chrome extension you cant see the erc20 token)

If its only eth just use the eth chrome extension.

Yes required few gas. Less than 0.01eth
*I dont even know why nobody help a real problem here.
*
Thanks for clarifying. Now it is clear biggrin.gif

so you mean erc20 token also can be stored in ledger nano S?
what is meant by pair ledger nano S with mew?
*
There is an option in MEW for you to unlock your wallet using the ledger instead of private key.

Mind set needs to be changed as it is not a good thing.

All investments in all kind of coins are dropped since all are attached to BTC.

Unless you have liquidated all coins into USD and then waiting this period to rebuy, then you can  rclxm9.gif

And the next moment it is back up. Seems like 2K is still a strong support. rclxm9.gif

So if I unlock my mew wallet using ledger that is equivalent to pairing the tokens?
*
Rather, when you accessed MEW through the ledger, There are a few wallet addresses that are already tied to the ledger as key.
Seemingly, even the Ledger Wallet Ethereum address can also be identified by MEW.

If i were to deposit ERC20 tokens into this Ledger Wallet Ethereum address, presume i wont be able to see them through the chrome browser.
Since there is seemingly no options to see ERC20 tokens in their chrome browser app today.
However, i should still be able to see the ERC20 tokens when i access the wallet address through MEW.
Not 100% sure about this. Perhaps the Shifus can confirm biggrin.gif
