my tax agent told me that recently lhdn is now actively tracing individuals that do not declare tax from crypto gains (cashing out). regardless of being regular trader or once in a blue moon kind of trader.

cashing out into fiat is considered part of your source of income and shall be added into your total annual income as well.

how they trace is where they check on your bank account balance, spending pattern deduct with your declared income.

eg your declared annual income is 100k, but your spending power could go more than 100k, then they will come and investigate you for undeclared income. just like how some individuals used to under-declare their income since ages ago

i think the only way is you cashout to someone where they on the spot pay you cash instead of via bank transfer. this is why some p2p seller dont leave any wordings that could link to crypto. but then lhdn still managed to traced some of em.

I would assume that it shouldn't be an issue - u r a non-US citizen, utilizing a non-US platform exchange? If its really that much of an issue, just break it up into 2 tranches and wire it to an interest yielding acct, park it for a while to regenerate the coins lost to gas fees.
