Hi, just passing by here......
You said that Matthew 7:21-23 "does not expound in detail", but you only quoted verses 21 & 22!
That's why you did not get the "missing detail".
Most importantly, you should have also quoted verse 23, which says :
"And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’ " - ESV
"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." - KJV
Lawlessness & iniquity basically mean the same thing : sin, immorality, wickedness
Reading v21-23 that way, you will understand that it actually
does expound in detail
& informs you specifically what the Father's will is.
Now, lets move backwards & establish to whom verses 21 & 22 are directed at.
Contrary to what you said, "On that day" is NOT the key.
Instead, the key, is in the "types of miracles" performed, that will identify who these group of people are.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ " - v 21 - 22
Notice then, that verse 22 says,
- prophesy in your name
- cast out demons in your name
- do many mighty works in your name
Whose name? Jesus's name of course! Why?
Because the non-believer has
no authority to cast out demons! Non-believers, who do not even confess Christ as their Lord, will never say, "In Jesus's name, i command you evil spirit to leave!"
refer to Strong's #1411 - δύναμις the word - dunameis : power for performing miracles
if you have any doubt, this word is always used exclusively to refer to the power of the Almighty.
also refer to Strong's Greek #1140 - δαιμόνια the word - daimonion: an evil spirit, a demon
Therefore, verses 21 & 22 leave no doubt that these are Christian believers. And verse 23 is the warning/condition cited here.
It is the Lord effectively warning Christians in no uncertain terms, that if they are, using your own words,
/continue living in sinfulness, they will not enter Heaven.
If you believe and call Jesus, "Lord, Lord", you are still lost if you have not done what God says. If we are not obeying God, we are practicing
lawlessness.
If we ever hope to go to heaven, we must do the will of the Father. This is the only way. Not the will of men, but God’s will. Not our own will, but God’s will. Just because we call Jesus our Lord, this will not save us.
Quoting John 6:40 in isolation, disregards many of the other verses & therefore distorts the
full meaning of the "Father's Will".
Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.”
See also, 1 John 2:4, "He who says, I know Him, and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him."
Finally, it is generally understood, that "on that day” means "the last day" or "the day of judgment". This is the Great White throne judgement of the unsaved.
Not like how you put it, as in the period of the tribulation. That would be stretching it.
Regards
If they are Christians who has authority to cast out demons, why should demons submit to such Christians who works lawlessness as you have said? As far as scripture tells us..Even Demons recognize who belongs to God and who doesn't
Sorry but I don't see your point there.
