Faith in Christ Justifies what you could not with Obediance

Acts 13:38 - 39 (KJV) - Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

Morning Fellow Believers of Christ Jesus. biggrin.gif

While waiting for the next devotion...something to edify to your spiritual life.

In the Bible, there's a record of a sermon preached by Apostle Paul in the book of Acts.
The verse above is the summary of his entire sermon and it is key essence of what the apostle Paul preached in Antioch.

What Acts 13:38 - 39 is saying is this:

Through this Man (referring to Christ Jesus) is preached to you the forgiveness of sin (not the Law)....and here comes the important part.....And by Christ Jesus (Not your performance), all that believe (whoever believes!) are justified FROM ALL THINGS! from which You could not be justified by the 10 commandments.

No qualifications.

See the phrase there

"By Christ Jesus"

"ALL that believes are "Justified" from all things from which you cannot be justified by Law of Moses.

All things here refer to "Doing" or performance or obedience if you will. Your Faith in Christ can justify what your obedience couldn't by the laws of Moses. The very Fact that God accepts this justification can mean a world of difference...for victory or defeat for the believer. The very fact that God puts down "cannot be justified by the laws of Moses" also means He knows we cannot as we are imperfect beings and will fail from time to time. I'm glad God acknowledges this and it does help to settle our heart.

The Christian life is a life of rest in God, not a life of striving, worrying whether you are saved or not. Simply because if you don't even know you are saved, how can you pray in Faith and expect God to answer? You simply cannot! And how can you live in victory or reign in life as scripture has declared unless you know you are justified by your Faith in Christ which supersedes 'ALL THINGS". Unless there is certainty, and unless doubt is evicted from your life, you will always be tossed by the waves here and there...even the sayings of Man.

But do not be tossed any longer, receive this scripture to heart, hold fast to it! Be at peace!
Our God is a good God. It takes revelation of his HS to understand this. I pray you can see and receive this.

God Bless.

Acts 26:20 (NIV) - First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and then to the Gentiles, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and demonstrate their repentance by their deeds.

Which is correct.

Repent means "Change" your mind in the Greek. You have to first change your mind about God before you're able to turn to Him. If previously you think God is an evil God or a harsh God, repent from that, start having a right perspective that God is a loving and good God. You can turn to a God who cares about you.

Once you have been sanctified by your Faith (meaning justified by) then start acting like you are saved. Start doing the right deeds in accordance.

Paul never said...to do the deeds in order to be saved or to be justified by, look at the order in the process of the verse. You cannot live a sanctified life apart from God, so God has to come in first. And How does that happen? Again points to being justified by Faith in Christ. Once you have been saved ---> start living like one.

Acts 26:17-18 (NIV) - 17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them 18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Acts 26:17-18 comes before Acts 26:20

The Wall of Hostility removed, the imputation of the Law abolished!

Ephesians 2:14- 15 (ESV) - For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace,

Morning Guys or Night by the time you read this.

God gave me this verse to help you to understand why the Law has been abolished for the believer. Note that, I said it's for the believer. The Law still stands valid against unbelievers. In the OT, you have to go through the high priest for sanctification through sacrifice of bulls and goats. Throughout the years, from what Jesus said in Matthew 23:13,15, Luke 11:46 & Luke 11:52, we can understand the religious leaders of Biblical time prided in themselves as being the gateway to God and they made it difficult for people to come to God. Jesus used the word "You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces". That was how bad it was for Christ to say it as it like that!

Today we are seeing something quite familiar along this line. I can't begin to imagine what would have been said by the teachers of the law or the pharisee..."You cannot come to God just like that...you must do this...or do that and oh it's not enough...still must do this and this...".

The sayings of Man propagating doubt, uncertainty, You will never know whether you are saved, doctrine. My Bible tells me otherwise.

1 John 5:13 (NIV) - I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Likewise in the main text of today's devotion, God is telling all of us, Christ "HAS" (past tense) removed, the wall of hostility. If what God has removed..We can come in! I see the heart of God in this manner. He wants us to come in very much into his domain. That is the GRACE and LOVE of God's heart for you and I! Amen believers? biggrin.gif

People with legality spirit would not have that, same spirit of the teachers of the Law. They want you to be unsure, don't know, maybe you might be save, maybe you can't all depending on your "performances" before God for justification. My advise dear brother and sister, ignore them. Read the word of God for yourself. Don't allow partial verses used in abuse to put doubt or fear into your heart. I told my friend..doubt is NEVER of God but the devil. Faith propagated, is always of God.

Anyway, back to the main text of today's devotion. Our Lord Jesus, through his death has abolished or made null the ordinances of the Law. Therefore, with that removed, We are now made into a new Mankind or Humankind if you will. The New Adam. There is no more The circumcised or the gentiles. Because at one time we were separate from God, excluded from citizenship in Israel and we were foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. (Ephesians 2:12-13) Do you see the divine word of God "been brought NEAR!"?

What Ephesians 2:14- 15 is saying, we are now children of the most High God because through the death and resurrection of Christ, the Law has been abolished! The word abolished used in the Greek here is katargeó. You can check here in this link http://biblehub.com/greek/2673.htm

Why do I fight so hard to share such freedom that God has given us? Simply because I want what God wants you to have in his Son, which is Peace, Love, Joy and more importantly REST!. We need to learn to breath easy and rest, having robust faith, trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ.

God Bless.

I think Stanley Porter (American academic specializing in New Testament studies) made some comments on it

I think his conclusion was:
It could be the Lord sovereignly prepared a church that in a city that is suffering from the same condition and also provide a spiritual "imagery" ...

Food for thought tongue.gif

I like what you said about defeated saved believer in reference to our Lord mentioning spitting the person out of his mouth as on the surface reading tend to interpret that as losing salvation.

From what I understand...Our God is not in the habit of trying to get people condemned or lose their salvation.

There is another reference of this similar incident where our Lord Jesus told Peter that if he didn't allowed Him to wash his feet, he will have no part with him. (John 13:8)

That I believe is in reference to having no part in the ministry. It is no part "with" Him vs "In" Him, that makes the context a huge difference.

In every generation, almost every preacher has been criticized one way or another.

From Billy Graham, John McArthur, John Piper...even if there's one preacher which is generally well accepted by some people, he/she will have someone in his/her church to criticize.

It's a never ending cycle and I see that as the problem of being human in the flesh. What you deemed as heretic may not be to someone else.

You may not agree with me but I think the right Christian trait for this matter is not to judge anyone, let God be the rightful Judge.

Because the moment you do that, you've just step into the problem of having a critical spirit which will lead to other problems....being hard on people, demeaning, insulting, doing so much sarcastic remark on people.

For me that is hypocritical in a way when one fight so much propagating works but never put the practise on ownself. Whenever someone post a long winded post on condemning some preacher (whoever it is) I just ignore it, throw it in the rubbish bin.

Wouldn't want any dirt...it's not edifying.

How do you propose we deal with people who preach a different gospel and a different christ?

I've seen a couple of his sermons before, he might think he's preaching christ, but I believe every preacher of God's word must be measured against the bible.

Call the false teachers out and let all believers measure them against the bible.

Sorry if ive offended you buddy.
*
No not specifically referring to you brother.

I don't think there will ever be good solution to this.

I mean, If Billy Graham can be called Satanic/heretic by some people...how do you solved that? Now I don't really follow Billy Graham but I know many people got saved through his ministry. You might be okay with Billy Graham but there are others who don't. You might be okay with your favourite preacher but in your Church, there could be others who don't.

Well the point is, everyone has their own favourite preacher or teacher....when we start comparing one another..who is right, who is wrong....that is 1 sign we are immature.

I understand where you are coming from but for me it's should be a matter if internal discernment to judge, We can advise, hey you know the Bible says it like this, what do you think.....? Rather than to publicly incriminate anyone..that to me is un-christ like.

biggrin.gif Not only that .... usually I don't read matter of salvation to the foot washing ... but the Lord's word to Peter after he nonsensically went to one extreme ... XD

Verse 10 says, "Jesus said to him, He who is bathed has no need except to wash his feet, but is wholly clean."

Those who are bathed refers to the baptism (Acts 22:16).

Although we Christians are bathed once only (We are eternally saved), the Bible shows us that foot-washing happens many times.

We are bathed only once, and all our sins are washed. But it takes many foot-washings to wash away all the dirt while living on earth and coming into contact with the world every day (1 John).

Yup Bro, you and I seem to have the same understanding on scripture for this text.

Thank you bro, much appreciated.

I agree..the constant washing of feet is a reminder...being washed with the word of God. tongue.gif

Colossians 2:14 (KJV) - Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Only the 10 commandments was handwritten by God on the 2 tablets. Blotting out, Abolished, Cancelled, same thing. This handwritten ordinances same reference to Ephesians 2:15 so it's not referring to ceremonial laws.

Here is one more.

2 Corinthians 3:7 (NIV) - Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,

Same thing being mentioned, only the 10 commandments were engraved in letter on stone by God and God calls the 10 commandments, a ministry of death.....not life.

Why subscribe to death if it's something you believe that still stands for the believer?

God Bless ya'll.

Colossians 2:16-23 is in reference to the laws of God as a whole.

Keeping the Sabbath is part of the 10 commandments (Colossians 2:16).

When Protestants fight over scripture interpretation, they start their own churches. When Catholics don't agree with Catholicism, they fall away and don't remain Catholics or they become bad ones. If morality is not important in Catholicism, why would we bother over both faith and works? After all, to you, only faith alone. laugh.gif  laugh.gif  laugh.gif

Don't you think the reason for John 17:20-21, implies that God still accepts believers regardless of denomination?

Hence the call for unity? It would be redundant for Christ to pray for this, no?

What is living according to God's Spirit? Part 3 of Grace & Truth

Romans 8:1-3 (NIV) - 1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

There's an argument on the set condition for no condemnation depending on whether you walk according to the Holy Spirit. Many translation does not include that phrase in verse 1 (Except KJV) but have included it in verse 4 as more appropriate. For me, it does not matter because either way because at the end of it, it seem to imply there is a condition attached and some people will say you need to be obedient to God as what it implies. On the surface it may sound like it but what is living according to the Spirit?

If you say it's about complying to God's set of Law then I will tell you it is insufficient. The Law can tell you not to commit adultery but it doesn't tell you how to love your spouse, some people can self claim they don't commit adultery but they hardly treat their spouse right. Some don't because they don't have the money, some because nobody looks their way twice. Whatever it is, the Law can cause people to be hard on other people. The Law only tells you not to "Thou Shall not"...but doesn't tell you beyond that, what to do. Interesting isn't it?

Do you know....sometime there's a knowing on the inside telling you to be kind to your wife or husband...that is the Holy Spirit. Sometime there's an inclination telling to just shut up (in a nice way tongue.gif ) and be a listener instead of a preacher to your life partner. The Law tells you not to covet, but it doesn't teach you how to be a generous giver. THAT takes the Holy Spirit and even for that, many are not willing to give their money up. They hold a tight clench...very hard to pry the fingers off. Under Grace, people who give the most, received the most from God. The Law may cause some people to be self righteous and thus end up condemning others without even realizing it.

The Law is written on 2 sets of cold stones but the Spirit is a living being, warm on the inside that lives and gives Life!

Some people are afraid without the law, people will go crazy. No, Friends, God has given you the Holy Spirit and has written everything you need to know through the Holy Spirit. Many of you already experience this and you know it's the HS.

What is living according to the Spirit?

As you already know, just adhering to a set of rules will cause a kind of hardness of the heart, so the answer is no. Why? Because it can be a form of empty religion and the Law is insufficient. The law was never given to help you to live right but to bring you to the end of yourselves.

The answer is this; Walking in the spirit means walking in the revelation that God is with you through his HS in your life and for God to be with you, you need to know God loves you. Also..for God to be with you, you need to know all your sins have been purged away as far as from the east is to the west. This is the first hurdle that our mind need to be convinced of (to repent)...everyday.

Until you come to this sense, Only God's love and his Son's perfect work for you is perfect, you will never walk according to God's Spirit. Because if you're going to trust and "also" be dependant on your obedience, your Christian life will be topsy turvy dependent on your performance and you give the devil opportunity to accuse you.

If you want consistency, then you need to hold fast to Grace where all of self and everything that is related to self... is dismantled and the devil has no say. Until you receive that you will have much difficulty loving others. Loving others comes by the Fruit of Joy and peace. How can you love others in bitterness and in hatred? Think about it.

Having this revelation, believing wholeheartedly, and acting out in Faith by your actions (for this love revelation) will be the first step to live by God's spirit. It all has to do with how you receive God in your life and how you treat other people. Read Romans 8 and Galatians 5.

God Bless.

Do you actually realize how pompous you sound??!! "Throw into the rubbish bin" what pastor Chace Gordon had refuted so correctly?

Or maybe some of the explanations on those quotes cut you too deep, because they uncannily described your teachings as well?  wink.gif

*
Not really, He didn't refute anything imo.

For example, he changed the meaning the power of sin is the law to affiliating to "Pain"......nothing in the scripture of that verse talks about pain, he interpreted on his own understanding.

The Law gives Sin it's power, that is the correct context. I can go on and on, but would you really understand? wink.gif.

As for what you've said in your latest post in James 1:14-16, not everything is for the believer, you need to correctly divide God's word. Read from the very beginning of James 1.

For example;

in verse 9, it talks about Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position, implying those who are in simple circumstances compared to the rich (verse 10). If everything is for the believer, then are you telling me, Rich believers are in for destruction? To say that it is, then you will have to conclude people like Job would also be geared for destruction at the end of his life.

Verse 13-14 is basically describing how sin destroy the person. But a believer has God in his life and that makes the difference why He/She can be excluded. Born again believers with the right revelation of God's word cannot go on sinning.

It all boils down to what you teach.

From what I see so far, you certainly lack Faith in Christ Jesus. you have more Faith in yourself over a Saviour.

Hey Bro Zan.....just an added insight.

Scripture did explain exactly what is the context of grieving HS. It would not be right IMO for anyone to simply misquote grieving the HS over everything or anything.

Ephesians 4: 29-32 (NIV)
29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

It all has to do with our words...when we speak to others....lack of graceful words but scorn. To use Grieving the HS to put fear and intimidate over other things like losing Salvation and etc...is just not right IMO. (as what Desmond says remove the text, you get CON).

The effect of the OSAS doctrine is that many continue in sin, which is why I refer to it as the "continuing in sin" doctrine.

I realize the OSAS adherents don’t recommend sin, they just say sin doesn’t impact our salvation, which is not supported by scripture.

Of course to be fair, OSAS proponents don’t believe that we should take it as a license to sin, BUT just by taking the position of “Once Saved Always Saved”, you’re by default, taking a stance for everything that OSAS stands for, which includes continuing in sin after salvation. Do you get my point?

*
If you already know we don't recommend sin, then by this admission of you saying "continue to sin" doctrine, you are putting words into what we believe in. Don't you see the irony of what you say here?
Honestly I don't like this.
