Thanks all members.

Today I visit few hardware shops in KL; the price they quote me is from Rm460-Rm480 Taiwan made. TPE994 can you tell me particularly which shop is selling with the price that you mention.

Some farmer said that 50% of humu is good enough for swiftlet and above 80% is good for farmer to get better nest. It is true that higher humu is a must for farm and the birds really like it?

A farm with humu above 80% created by humidifier will make the floor wet like "wet market" floor after mix with the bird***? Or it will still remain dry?

Arong.

I believed that we can diy on everything, the only thing is self-confidence. You can start with small job fist. You don't have to ask people to move the blower just move it by yourself. try fist. I even fix the TNB meter by myself and get pass by TNB officer. Just think how difficult for us to safe money but just give to other so easy!

To TPE994

Thank for your help. I bought one at Rawang about the same price. Thank again.

Hi everyone,

I am new, just finished reading all the pages and have gained lots of knowledge from all sifus here, thank you. I have a 4 years old Bh, 1st year only had 1 nest  cry.gif 2nd year less than 10 nests  sad.gif  3rd year 50+ nests  rclxms.gif now 165 nests rclxm9.gif . Almost  give up during the 2nd year  then slowly the nests increased so i regained my confidence. Thank God  notworthy.gif.

For LAL, what is the mininum size applicable and can we hack inside the nesting area in my situation now? I have another choice that's hack at the rovoing area. All advices from Sifus are highly appreciated. Thank you. Sorry for my poor English.

Hello seeseng,

Ya, i want to expand 1 fl  to become 2 fls BH.  When do u think when is the best time to do it, during dry season ?? Which months ah?
Actually i have 2 spots to choose. First is the roving area before entering into the nesting area, second is inside the nesting area. 4m x 4m is the preferred but i am considering smaller size like 2m x2m. Have u come accross any successful BHs with LAL size smaller than 4mx4m. Thanks.

Hi arong,

2 years back i did  moved  the partition and let birds have more space to go into nesting area , of course i have to live with lower humidity n more light inside. Now have made necessary improvement liao. Btw, can disclose ur lower floor got how many nests ?  Is your LAL located at the middle of nesting area ? Thanks.

Bchinlaw

My lower floor is doing better than upper floor. LAL in the middle of nesting area without any blocking, Bird in and out with any direction they like. 100% agree bigger LAL will doing better but small farm no choice. Can consider stairway as LAL instead of digging new hole to prevent serious vibration.

How about remove the monkey house on the roof top to make the bird easy to fly in and out. Close one side of the open roof area and only remain one bigger inlet hole at the covered area.

If you insist to maintain the monkey house, how about just remove the nesting room partition. If birds know how to come in they know how to go out. Not to worry.

Yes, be united and join the birds nests association in town nearer your bird house to work out a guideline with local council to help regulate the industry and control undisciplined farmers who put much suffering to the majority of the people who are not in the industry. This is my plea to all farmers to do their part to make life easier for the majority. Like one of the caring pioneers once quoted Confucius as said in the forum,
"DO NOT DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU DO NOT WANT OTHERS DO UNTO YOU" and

"DO NOT BUILD YOUR HAPPINESS ON OTHERS GRIEVENESS" and

"IF YOU MAKE OTHERS SUFFER, IN THE END YOU ARE THE ONE SUFFER MOST"

Please be considerate for others and you will be happy farming.

Latest article from Agroworld magazine. In swiftlets heaven Setiawan town and the areas nearby, thousand of BH after operated for few years only able to harvest few nests monthly. Old BH facing zero increment of population. I believe the same cases also happen in other areas.

Owners try all type of method and looking for help every were but they still keep silent. New ranches keep on coming in after listen sweet talk from consultant. One successful BH able to attract thousands of adventurers. How much hard earning money gone without turning. This is one of the reasons why BN associations fail to attract new member.

Previously in Chinese we say “养鸟防老”but now we have to say “老来等鸟”. rclxub.gif

What you all think?

We better sell to china collector for price RM3400 rather than local collector with price RM1900. As long as china collector willing to pay price higher then local collector we don’t mind how much they going to sell to china consumers. Lower price mean more people will consume and more raw nest they need and our price will maintain or increase.

The local BN processor spoils the market not the BH owner.

What you all think?

Thank all great comments from brother/sister. It’s true that no sure win in BH design. Inlet must be swiftlet friendly and also “choy san” friendly. rclxms.gif

I borrow a pic from KPW forum. It looks like the inlet is at the bottom part and able to increase darkness in our nesting area. Any members have such design? How the performance? any comment?

sekian
