Harvesting by throwing away the eggs or babies just to get whiter-than-white nests is very cruel. It is not unlike eating shark fin.

I am 100% with West Wing & others that only recycled or empty nests be harvested. If not, sooner or later, maybe Jakie Chan will come out with an advertisement asking people not to eat bird nests because farmers kill babies just for a few dollars more.
*
Let me tell all an old story and it began more than 10 years ago, many consultants approached me to convert my tall building in to a BH on 50% -50% sharing but I wasn't interested at all and then they increased to 60% -40%. I was tempted but then why do I need to share when I have the money. As I knew nothing about swiftlets and can't even differentiate swiftlet from swallow and even thought that swiftlet live by the sea and eat tiny fish. I found that some of my realtives in Indo have BHs and so I make some inquiries and advices from them. Guess what I get.

I. One Relative told me that BH is very good investment and if I am interested, he would send two of his workers to help me to set up the BH.

2. Another told me not to dream about having BH as it will bring bad omen to me, family or further generations. He even offer to take me around the town and show me how and what were wrong or bad that happened with those involved in this industry. That.I didn't understand then but I understand now.

As for no.1, since I can pay, I engaged a consultant to build the BH but after a week upon completion, I terminated the consultant by paying him Rm12K in cash because I believed that I can do better than him and with him around, it make matter worse. (sorry, if you, my consultant is reading and I didn't intented to tarnished your reputation but then I am telling my story from my point of view).

As for no.2. I now know the reason for my relative's worry. The Indo's usual way as I believed was that they would harvest all nests inrespectively of whether nests with eggs or chicks when the time for harvesting. This is to maximize profit and no concern for the bird and its family. This is killing and no religion can permit us doing so. Even one BH owner told me that even he and his friends harvest 6 times a year, his BHs will have increment of birds due to the fact that there will be always some BHs owners breeding swiftlets and that the new birds will fly out and who know where they will go to................

Buddhist believe that whatever bad we do, will eventually fall back onto us now or later or in after life. I don't know about other religions........

Again, above are only my little understanding and pls forgive me and accept my apologies if I am wrong or if you feel hurt and also maybe my lack of understanding in this industry. I just care for the welfare of the helpless swiftlets which provide us with the white gold free and we should at least appreciate them by providing them with a safe place to stay.

Hope that no one gone to sleep with my boring story and pls do comments and post your views or news on swiftlets so that I need not post my crazy postings here. I promise that if you all post, I keep my big mouth shut.......... and so my hands.

hi guys. i'm still trying to finish reading all the posts in this particular thread. Its amazing... the information, details, debates... thanks a lot.

i am relatively new to this industry... have been doing some digging, research, knocking on BH owners doors and literally pestering them for information and tips. honestly speaking... successful BH owners are kinda like neurosurgeons... they are a very closed circle of people. no offense, but that's just how it is.

so far so good, should start construction of a stand alone BH by February. Up to date i have entered and observed 12 BH's... a few of which are almost full to the brim. I also noticed there is no fixed standard or design... as someone mentioned earlier... research should be done... it is an evolving industry which even the authorities are ignorant of (not all, some PBT's are cooperative).

i would suggest anyone in the architecture field do a research paper regarding design and structure of a bird house... attached with a university of course. maybe pair it in with behavioral studies on swiftlets. it should benefit us all.

i did hear Utm did a research on the processing side of birds nest. not sure what happened to that.

can anyone advise me on the estimated cost of a 60X26X9 three floor BH? I did ask around, some are charging within the range of 45-65/sft all in.

another issue... we all know aerodramus fucipagus is a protected species. a symbiosis of sorts happens when we get involved with the industry. however, is there a certain population limit for a certain radius of concentrated BH's  areas? Lets say a 20km radius has 15 BH's... each BH has roughly 5k birds = 75k. Is the population getting enough food source? Whats the limit? Will this effect nest production and size?

my point is, should there be a regulated or fixed number of BHs in a designated area. too many, they migrate. Food scarce, they migrate. heck, i've seen humongous BH built side by side, some up to 4-8 buildings. I cant see the rationale in that. please someone enlighten me.

my point of view may err, i don't have that much exp anyway. but i wish to carefully lay out plans for the next 30 years. build 1 BH now. before the 5 th year, another one... and so on. should be ok i geuss, still 20++, unless i die of an MVA... i hope all goes well >.<

regarding PBT's... i think it is high time some authority of the swiftlet industry educate them. Maybe propose talks to each pbt? at least they'd understand the industry before making lousy and idiotic rules and regulations. about federal agencies, heck, so far all of them are understaffed and incapable. maybe a memorandum or rally should stir things up. Ill advised ministers/people in power are the most dangerous men/women. i think i get what mrs kam & Lucas 1 are trying to say.
*
First, AF is not a total protected species now but a semi protected species and you may check with the authorities. Secondly. there is never a overcrowded area but only overcrowded BH and if your's is one, congratulation. You get it all worng because the swiftlets fly very far in search of food and only return to build home. They practically do everything in the sky and fly hundreds of miles away. The swifltets will not migrate unless force to and their area will only expand bigger and bigger.

Please make very sure that your local authorities know what they are doing or suppose to do or otherwise, you all will be in serious trouble.

The information that I had used to make my post was from wikipaedia. Apparently it is out of date and I found the following article :
It is quite clear from here that in 1998 they included swiftlet as a protected specie and in 2003 they added a new licensing requirement and in 2006 they further restrict the building of BH in town areas.....the provison is that the Superintendent of land and survey can make exception if the land title allows it to be used for agricultural purposes as well.

In this regard when the act is very clear and specific for swiftlet it is difficult to find any lubang.

What I could not find is who is the licensing authority ?  In the act it stated "the controller".
*
I am not a lawyer and could care less about reading LAW to become one either but I do know that...

The Forest Rangers do not have the right to force into the BH without approval, but they have all the right to take BH owners to court and that where the court decide and not up to the Pejabat Hutan or gunmen.......if by building a BH in town is wrong without approval, then they can fine the BH owners or give notice to demolish the BH but they do not have the right to enter my building illegally. Failing so, they will need to take me to court to settle the matter. Even the Police need a warrent to do so, is the Pejabat Hutan's authority above that of the Police. If the Pejabat Hutan suspect someone of providing a sanctuary for swiftlets, they need the premission to enter or otherwise, they need a court order to do so. By just forcing their way in, they are trespassing and shall be arrested for illegal entering and should be bought to court and be fine, pay damages and should be thrown into jail where they deserve. The Pejabat Hutan is suppose to protect the swiftlet, we , the provider of sanctuary for the bird should all be given medals where their cousins @ caves have been destroyed by the so called harvesters protected by the forest rangers which infact be protecting the swiftlets and then the rangers went on to kill all chicks and eggs and you call them, forest rangers...better name, protected species killers lah and professional ones. Alas, my heart is with our friends in Sarawah. Very lucky that, we in the West Malaysia are still OK. Thanks to the understanding and consideration of our PM, DPM and his Cabinet Ministers.

So, anyone of us around here who is a lawyer and know the laws please judge my humble finding as I am only using the law as I think the law shall apply which infact is very simple by using mostly common senses. Kicking a dog or cat can land you in jail but why killing hundreds of protected species still free???? Maybe, they are 007 secret agents, license to kill. Again, above are my little understanding of everything above.

Ps...sorry for not keeping my promise to keep my BM shut, tak boleh tahan lah.............

The magazine write but you decide on whether it's right or wrong,. This time of the year, as usual, not much increment of nest due to the season but then some still have increment. Likewise, my BHs is still growing and well so I really have no worry at all. Just tell me, where to find increment in area where no new bird is reproduce. Buyer are demanding only 3 feather whites nests and no shit and we oblige. You think that God still create birds. God create Adam and Eve but no more. You produce new birds and you decide not to.

QUOTE(Lucas 1 @ Jan 4 2009, 11:41 PM)
Samgan,
1) For someone to bring bird’s nest whether raw or processed, first of all you need to apply an approval permit (AP) from the China Trade department through a business or company registered in China either under your own sole proprietorship or partnership well in advance. The AP is valid for at least six months. The AP exempts you from paying the 25% import duty but not the 17%VAT, if the bird’s nest is exported from Malaysia with a certificate of origin together with a Health Certificate (HC) certified by our Haiwan (RM3). For the moment, besides Malaysia, import from all other countries is taxed at 25 % import duty plus 17 % VAT at the point of entry.
2) You can apply AP for any amount well in advance. Each time you import into China through their custom point, the custom will value the nests and tax you for the 17%VAT only. The actual amount taxed will be deducted from your AP each time. You can use the AP for multiple imports.
3) If you have the AP and the CO and the HC from Malaysia, you can bring the nests check in as baggage or through cargo. In another word, if you have AP with you, you can just bring in the nests any amount not more than the amount stipulated your exemption from China import duty of 25%, but you will have to pay the 17% VAT at the entry point.
4) But it seems after clearance, you may still need to send sample to the China Health Department for another round of certification.  ( this is quite blur for the moment)
5) Our custom clearance at exit point is never a problem as to the Malaysia Custom; there is totally no tax for in and out of Malaysia. Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Trade are very encouraging the export of nest.
6) The main problem that hinders the export or bringing out of nest come from the PERHILITAN, THE WILDLIFE DEPT. The PERHILITAN has very unreasonably and un-ethically misled the Minister with hidden agenda claimed to have quietly passed an enactment on the WILDLIFE ACT in 2003 to impose an exit tax levied on all bird’s nest whether cave or house nest exported at 10 cent/gram equivalent to RM 100/kg. They started implementing it sometime in late 2007 without adequately inform the public and caught many people carrying between 100kg down to 75 gm including foreign tourists with only a couple of hundred grams as hand gift with the pants down and caused too numerous harassments and ugly scenes in the airport. They have very un-called for bureaucratic red tape and lengthy procedure even to pay for the exit tax. Previously, you need only send sample to Haiwan for the Health Cert and within 2 to3 days from the day you purchased the nest till you board the plan. It is because of this PERHILITAN’s new enactment, you are required to send the whole lot of nest to the PERHILITAN’s regional office for physical examination and exit tax paid before you are allowed to send sampling to Haiwan. The whole procedure now needs 10 to 14 days.
7) If you want to know more in details of the procedures in bringing nests into China, there is seminar coming up on 10.01.08. Nonetheless, it is conducted in Mandarin. But the speakers are also well verse in English. You can go to the following link to check for details and make enquiry.

9) The following is an old post which is self explanatory. Hope all these info could help you and those interested.

QUOTE(seeseng @ Jul 27 2008, 01:38 PM)
The banner in KLIA heard from quite a number of souces before so it should be true. Put up by PERHILITAN clowns to show power. Early this year a few cases of nests being brought out through airport was seized. Even an old lady bringing out 1 tael(両) of processed nests as gift also kena seized. Officially they're in charge of Taman Negara and cave nests. But do the clowns have the jurisdiction over house nests? It's an unclear area of the law.  There was these 2 cases of 6kg and 1kg seized by them. Later on the bird nest merchant association of state preparing to fight for their rights in courst the clowns immediately dropped charges and returned the nests. (sources from Mr.L of Kedah Birdnest Merchant Association)
So do they really have the jurisdiction on house nests? What they have is on cave nests only. House nests are different story. Just like catching wild arowana is illegal but buying commercially breed arowana is no problem.
Hi,Seeseng,U r very right. Some good volunteer just confirmed the stupid act of the PERHILITAN by emailed to me the photos taken from LCCI inside the departure.I am putting it up here. This is the main reason for the recent drop in prices in the bird'snests in M'sia only.Looks like it will continue dripping downwards till dont know when unless someone/ones are prepared to do something immediately to stop the PERHILITAN from further damaging this with hidden agenda.Every farmer and those involved in the trade will be hard pressed and crying soon.M'sia 's economy will be greatly affected.I bet u if there is any by-election,there will be Tsunami again to defeat the BN Federal Govt due to this small bunch of clowns from PERHILITAN pulling their own master's leg.BN never learnt.Do u know that 80% of the BH owners voted for the oppositions during last election?

1)In the past, without such implementation, there were many foreign buyers from e,g Indon and China, flew in here 4 to 6 times a month to fight for the nests.Becos of this stupid act of the PERHILITAN and its bereaucratic, red tapes, inefficiency, time consuming procedure and system that made thing difficult and inconvenient for the foreign buyers, thus,it deterred them from flying in as frequent as b4.Nowadays,if they do come, they come in submarine, may be once a month. And provided, your selling price is dirt cheap. If u dont sell, others will as they have their bank loan commitment or their children are studying in overseas.

2) A small group of volunteers are presently investigating and researching into the WILD LIFE ACT,suspecting that the PERHILITAN is circumventing the law and abusing their power by implementing such action by misleading the Minister concerned and jumping the gun for hidden agenda. They think that it is illegaL AND ILLEGITIMATE for the PERHILITAN to do that. They are waiting for certain evidences. They confirm those cases u mentioned are true and there are much more which have not been exposed.

3) This small group has highlighted and appealed to the Federation of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce recently requesting them to help to look into the matter seriously by using their established resources, manpower and machinery.Only the Chamber has the experience, calibre, ability, unity, sincerity and the machinery to do that with the past proven records.YOU may ask, where the hell are the birdnests associations and what have they done? Let me tell you this. Most of the committee members from the numerous birdnest associations across M'sia are of no calibres, useless, selfish and what the Chinese say "small People".Many of them can not read or write proper. For those who are of higher calibre and with better education background, wont want to do the dirty job for own hidden agenda. They only want to hold positions with their name cards printed to impress the newbies so they can act as Con-sultants or at the end of the days get nominated for the Sultans'A to Z titles. This also goes to the self- proclaimed Federation President ,a senior Dato from Kedah who is good for nothing.Just imagine,he was the YB and Exco in Kedah for many years, yet, till today,he did nothing during his tenure as Exco to convince the former BN Govt to license the BHs in Kedah. In fact,he himself owns the most BHs with no less than 100s in the region. He should thank to this trade as he was the developer one time burdened with hundreds of unable to sell shophouses b4 this trade emerged. He could have gone bankrupt. In Kedah, almost every farmer got harassed and summoned except his. This is the truth all Kedah BH farmers know and angry with.Understand today,he is blessed with lung cancer due to the too many "good deeds" done.

4)Also that, many associations committee can not see eye to eye due to conflict of interest or crash of business. One worst example is the former unscrupulous 1st President of the M""" Birdnest Association.Of course, not everyone is like that, there are some very dedicated, committed, sincere, prepared to contribute and yet frustrated committee from various associations, except that their numbers are very little, isolated and short-handed and inexperienced. These good men should surface, take the lead widen the gene-pool to hunt down each other and keep in touch with each other, put aside their differences and be united and organised with true sense of commitment, dedication to fight for what they sworn as a committee for the betterment for this industry which in the end of the day, their own interest as well.

5) These sincere committee from various individual associations together with those educated readers with righteousness of this blog should volunteer jointly to help out the Chamber to help this industry and in the end help your ownself,hopefully,b4 it is too late. If everyone were to contribute a little in his own positive way or resource and be united with no personal agenda and with one heart,I think those high-handed clowns from the PERHILITAN would retreat.

6) Just sit back and close your eyes for a while, dont fall asleep, start visualising what will happen if nobody comes forwards and volunteer to help in the situation?Just imagine what will happen to your already spent few hundreds thousands to the millions of yours or your dad's life time saving of investment? There is a saying, becomes water.Or do u want to take chance to count on luck that some samaritan would be sent by god to help resolve your immediate problem? So,u want to help urself or u want someone to help u and what if,that someone forget to turn up?Who has more to lose? Its either u come out to help urself or u assist others to help urself in so many ways.

6) I understand that The Federation of The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in KL will be organising a seminar cum symposium to discuss mainly this issue besides other birdnest related topics on 02.08.08 Saturday from 10 am onwards.I would like to appeal to this blog readers who are concern of the future of ths industry and prepare to contribute and to help out to help urself, please voluntarily call up the following phone to register to attend and for details.Participation is limited.Construtive proposals and actions expected and welcome. Also, spread the msg to persuade those whom u think would be able to contribute. We are on the same 'sampan'now, every single drop of help is important.Everyone of us can contribute in many different ways to reverse the situatiuon to our favour.Only with UNITY,can we win. No point for all of us talk c*** here and do nothing positive. There is a saying, everybody expects somebody to do it,in the end nobody does it and then everybody hugs each other and sink! Do u want that?

Mrs Kam, secretary (FEDERATION OF THE CHINESE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE)

GOOD LUCK

*
Lucas,

Thank you for what you have posted here and some of readers may want to export BN to China and they will certainly face lesser problem, thanks to you. Hoping that this will help to increase the price if our BN.

haha..in that case, u should sell to china direct loh..

How long do u think u can sell RM3400 a kilo to china???.......

two months ago they came n buy it at rm4400 a kilo...now they realised u guys are desparate, so they offered RM3400 a kilo...

these guys only know a few small time farmers....

by the time they know more farmers....u think they will buy from u RM3400 a kilo??

Dream on.....u are lucky if they offered u RM1400 a kilo in future.
*
Chank,

In you, I feel negative vibe...............and this is no good for the industry Positive thinking are all we want at this moment and unity is what we want So, if China is buying our raw nests, so is the matter here, Indo is paying us so low and its getting lower and luckily, now we get the Chinaman coming. China is buying unprocessed nests because our neighbour is cheating on them all this time and if I am the Chinaman, I won't be buying processed nests untill I am sure that the processed nests are safe to consume, won't you???

Thank God for that for we don't have to depend on Indo who all this while through their agents in Malaysia have been telling us that we do not know how to process nests and we should not even try and we will fail. "Indo workers are so cheap and they are expert and so good at it" and we Malaysians are no match to them.... where are the "Malaysia Boleh" spirit !!!!!!!! Hey, we, Malaysians have the technology and we are smart and we learn fast but processing is one thing that the more you do, the better you are at it. It is like the fishermen telling us that we do not know how to fish and we need not learn cos' we will be able to catch enough fishes, just leave the fishing to the fishermen. Then, we will always be at the mercy of the fishermen. Until we learn, and we havent' got the time as our birds are building nests and we need the money to pay for the installments so we are now at the mercy of the buyers, representatives from Indo. Last, I heard that the Indo are paying Rm2200 for 3 fingers 3 feathers white nest and I said to myself, Oh God, how am I going to produce such nest with my way...unless I follows the evil way and that the day, I call it a day. Now, the price has increase and the price is getting better and better....through buyers from China and local buyers who have learn the method of exporting to China ( Thanks to those friends who taught us how to export). As the buying get better, we won't have to worry...........as we have having another group of buyers from or for China and we no longer depend on Indo group, which I was told by PJ that the Indo are one united group and that's smell fishes and bad..............

We are not desperado but it is some guys with maybe some hidden agendas giving bad weather forcast that create the panic selling. It is like a group of people crying "Tsumani coming" and everyone running toward high ground even the sea is calm...........

I have been keeping my nests since the Tsumani Calling and can't be bother to run as I believe in myself and would only sell if the price is reasonable....surely not Rm1400 or Rm1200 and what then......

The Chinese have been so used to pure white nests and red nests, thanks to the Indo and they think that the bird nests are supposed to be like that.....and now even that they are coming and they are demanding white nests...... we need to teach the Chinese that the original color is the best color and if the Chinese insist on whiteness, sooner or later, we will be bleeching nests and maybe creating artificial 4 or 5 fingers nests. How safe will the nests be then. Again, are my humble opinions and no intented to offend Mr. Chank and anyone here............just wanting to help to get reasonable price for all. Anyone sleeping already?? Keep posting, everyone and help keep the forum alive and everyone has the right to post but I hope no 4 letters words or something like that.

I believe that you need to be there to give any comment as the entrance is the Fong Sui opening where all the nature forces are involve and in peace like the wind, the sun, the heat and others and the only none Fong Sui player is the Choy San(Swiftlets) who must like the opening and that’s why, even the greatest of the grand masters sometime may need to change the entrance after renovation. Also you need to wary of of Hock San (Predator) and remember that in all BH, the entrance is the most importance part of all and again it is my humble opinion. Ha ha ha ha

深圳破走私7億元燕窩案

(明報)1月9日 星期五 17:45  http://hk.news.yahoo.com/article/090109/4/a4un.html

RMB 700 MILLION WORTH OF SMUGGLED BIRD’S NEST SEIZED IN SHENZHEN, CHINA
Friday, 9 January, 2009

The Custom Dept of Shenzhen had recently succeeded in exposing a case of syndicated bird’s nest smuggling involving RMB 700 million in value with the arrest of 19 suspects.

In late 2007, the Custom Dept of Shenzhen was tipped off of a smuggling syndicate using individual porter system to smuggle in a small amount of nest each trip into Shenzhen from Hong Kong.

Upon full and secret investigation since then, the Custom had uncovered the essential information such as the operation methods and the identity of the key men of the syndicate. Since their first arrest of 4 key men made on 20.02.08, they continue pursued the case for the next ten months till recently that they managed to arrest the ring leaders together with the smuggled goods. With the arrest of all the key ring leaders, the said syndicate has totally been disintegrated.
From the records and evidence seized, it showed that this syndicate had operated since March 2007 and the total nests smuggled for the period amounted to 56,000 Katie or 28,000 kg valued at RMB 700 million with tax unpaid at RMB226 million.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There will be a huge immediate shortage of supply of nest to the China regular consumers as from now for the next few months as the result of the above news. I personally view that this is good timing and opportunity for our Malaysian young entrepreneurs to capitalise on the situation and the China import tax exemption on nests imported from Malaysia to explore the legal procedure to export nest directly into China. Very soon, the demand will increase and the price should start going up even after the New Year.

Please be aware that it is not the Malaysians who smuggled the nests into China. Malaysians merely sell nests to the exporters. It is the China own importers based in HK who smuggled the nests themselves. In Malaysia, there is no export duty for nests exported out of country as our Malaysian Govt is encouraging the exporting of nests in exchange for foreign revenue. At the exit points such as airport, you are required to fill in a custom outward declaration form. This is only for formalities and statistic purpose. Absolutely no exit duty is chargeable by our custom. It is the PERHILITAN that is causing trouble to own Malaysians. This will have to be stretched out and tackled by the representatives of the Associations by bringing this to the notice of the relevant Ministers or higher urgently to repeal or nullify the inconsiderate ACT.

There is no advantage at all to smuggle Malaysian nests into China as nests imported from Malaysia is already exempted 25% import duty by the China Authority. You need to pay only 17% VAT. Recently, a friend had successfully brought in a couple of batch of processed nests. He paid an average of about RMB2, 000=RM990 per kg on the VAT. VAT on raw nest is cheaper. Understand that by way of smuggling, it does not save you much after paying all the porter and handling charges. Moreover, a very good advantage is that you can sell the nest with tax paid in open market with the official tax paid receipt in your hand without fear. The only set back or disadvantage is there is a set of quite lengthy and rather complicated procedure and process to follow, such as AP, China Health Examination Cert etc which is considered quite troublesome and time consuming. But whoever the Malaysians to be well verse in the whole procedure now shall be the pioneers or early birds that catch the worms.

As for the moment, this China tax incentive is only granted to Malaysia, I can anticipate that in the near future, nests from Indonesia, Thailand, and nearby countries will be sending here for transit to China. This will make Malaysia to become an important trading centre.

I hope this finding and information of mine will be of help to the many desperate Malaysian BN dealers and traders and that more markets are open and demand created and nest price would steadily move up, so that our fellow forum brothers will no longer crying.

Added on January 11, 2009, 1:32 amHey, friends why so quiet?  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

I thought we are entering a new era soon, so all should be happy......2009 should be a good year.

1988 was a bad year, I remember. Old UMNO was declared illegal. UMNO was split into team A and team B. That caused the economy and social stability into a limbo.
1989 economy statrted to pick up.

1998 was another very bad year after world financial crashed in 1997 and with Anwar kicked out of UMNO and Indonesia racial crisis. It is in 1998 that the modern type of BH farming officially started to embark and emerge in Malaysia when those Indon rich man refugees including those BH farmers running away from Indonesia across the Strait of Malacca into Malaysia. They brought along their wealth and together with the tecniques and knowledge started to join venture with the locals into the BH industry. They started BHs in the North and slowly the momentum picked up and spreaded across whole West Malaysia and crossed the South China Sea into East Malaysia in exactly 10 years by now.

2008 was another rocking year with the numerous political turmoils and the 308 tsunami that saw the rise of the PEOPLE'S POWER in 50 years of Malaysia history. Generally, it was a very good and encouraging year for the Malaysians as many National and political scandals exposed, cleaned or yet to be cleaned. In long term, it is definitely very good for Malaysia. But, 2008, for the business sectors, it is considered a bad year as we faced another worst global financial crisis which affected every country in the world including China which was spared in 1998.

It looks like we are already at somewhere near to the bottom when entering 2009. So just give it sometime, there will definitely be a rebound and gradually start picking up again. Be happy, we are entering the starting point of another round of 8 good years before things becoming bad again by 2018.

Unwittingly, I just realise that our this swiftlet forum has become the champion among all the Lowyat.net Forum topics with a record breaking of 100 pages soon. Probably my this post is entering the 100 pages. Congatulation to all who participated and contributed to this.  rclxms.gif  rclxm9.gif  thumbup.gif

Oyea!!!! We will only hit 100 but next year, we will all be around if we are honest and sincerely to our pals @ forum. So, forward anything about our Choy Sant, the swiftlets.

The road to the better future was never easy and won't be and only thru hard work and many failures will you be successful.

If we are not to go into the China market now and leave it to other nations, we will always be at other's mercy. Why can't we be better than others in the near future if we tried and we tried and at last we may see a Champion in us.

I never said that we are not selling to A or B but that we will sell to anyone who offer us reasonable price and I feel the present price is a shameful to the white gold.....and that since China shall be facing shortage of nest due to the" RMB 700 MILLION WORTH OF SMUGGLED BIRD’S NEST SEIZED IN SHENZHEN, CHINA" news so many times this few months.

Processed or unprocessed nest, we sell if the price is right and let no one denial us of it.

Today, someone came to us offering Rm3000 for white nests and we are not selling only white. They are facing difficulties in getting their bleached white nest into China which is very strict in their import of nest. That's really very good for us as Chinese will soon learn that BN is not all white and infact 90% light color. The guy has the nerve to say that if he want brown nests, he need not come to Malaysia as Indo has lots of brown nest and much cheaper, too.

So, my support for those who wish to process nest in Malaysia and if possible export oversea..............and someone did mentioned that China is so big that whatever Malaysia can produce, they take and even their newborn babies per year exceed that of the population of Malaysia, and that's the market for us.

I met two ladies in KL at a swiftlet's seminar and what, they are processing BN in large quantity and Sales exceed Production. So, who say Malaysia tak boleh.... that's again are my humble view and comments and Happy 100 everyone..........................

IT IS NOT EASY TO VENTURE OUT FOR THE FIRST TIME...

AND WHEN U DID, THE REAL SCENARIO IS JUST NOT WHAT U HAVE EXPECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE.

2 OR 3 YEARS AGO, WHEN I SEEK HELP FROM MY RELATIVE IN CHINA TO SEE IF WE CAN SEND OUR CLEAN BN AND SELL IT IN CHINA. MY RELATIVE INSTEAD INTRODUCED ME TO HIS FRIEND IN CANADA.

TURN OUT HE IS BUYING CLEAN BN FROM INDONESIA FOR 20KG A MONTH.

THIS FIGURE IS JUST NICE FOR US AND WHEN HE ASK ABOUT OUR SELLING PRICE, WE THEN QUOTED HIM ABOUT RM6600.00 A KILO.

HE KEPT QUIET FOR AWHILE AND HE THEN TOLD ME THAT HE BUY HIS NEST FROM INDONESIA AT USD 1,200.00 A KILO, AND WITH THE CONVERSION RATE THAT TIME, IT TURN OUT TO BE RM4400 A KILO.

TO ME THAT TIME, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE THAT INDONESIAN IS SELLING AT THAT PRICE !!!.....WE ARE SELLING RAW NESTS AT RM4400 A KILO IN MALAYSIA AND HOW CAN ANYONE SELL CLEAN BN AT THAT PRICE??

IT IS JUST NOT POSSIBLE.

THEN WE ENQUIRE ABOUT BN PRICES IN USA, SAN FRANCISCO. IT TURN OUT THAT IT IS THE SAME IN SF, THE LOCAL CHINESE MEDICINE SHOPS IN SF TOO BOUGHT THEIR BN FROM INDONESIA AND THE PRICE IS EVEN LOWER !!!!.....

WE ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY ARE BLUFFING BUT NOW....I REALISED ....THEY ARE ACTUALLY TELLING THE TRUTH.....

...
*
Not difficult to figure out at all.........buy @ Rm6000 sell @ Rm4400 and make profit if you add pig skin, sea weed and what have you. I have saw nests in shops selling nests that doesn't look like nests and saw medical shop in Singapore drying wet nest cake by the road side looking more like sea weed..........by the way, how much is one kilo of sea weed or pig skin?

We really have magicians among us.

Added on January 11, 2009, 10:13 pmWONDER ANYONE ATTENDED THE SEMINAR ORGANISED BY DAMAYANWO??

JUST A FEW SUGGESTIONS TO THE ORGANISERS FOR THEIR FUTURE IMPROVEMENTS :

1) YOU NEED MORE PROFESSIONAL SPEAKERS.

2) IF YOU INTEND TO ORGANISE SEMINAR ABOUT HOW TO EXPORT BN TO CHINA, PLS DO SHARES AS MUCH INFORMATION AS POSSIBLE SUCH AS CHINA CURRENT MARKET CONDITIONS, THE PROCEDURE TO EXPORT BN, THE DO/DON'T WHEN EXPORTING BN TO CHINA, THE FLOW CHART OF EXPORTING BN PROCEDURES.

3) PLS DONT JUST PROMOTING YOUR OWN COMPANY OR IMAGING YOUR FRANCHISE PROGRAMES AS SURE WIN BUSINESS MODEL.....THERE IS
NO SURE WIN MODEL.

4) IF U INTEND TO USE THE SEMINAR AS MARKETING PROGRAM FOR YOUR OWN COMPANY THEN PLS DO IT AS A SALES TALK AND NOT A SEMINAR THAT WILL GET PEOPLES TO FORK OUT THEIR HARD EARN MONEY AND END UP LEARNING NOTHING.

I CARED ABOUT THEM AS THEY ARE THE PIONEER IN HELPING FARMERS TO VENTURE OUT TO THE WORLD,

BUT SO FAR I AM AND OUR PARTNERS ARE NOT REALLY THAT IMPRESSED BY WHAT THEY DID....HOPE THEY CAN PLAN, RESEARCH MORE BEFORE CONTINUING WITH THE NEXT SEMINAR.

BTW, I SPEND 1 TO 2 HRS CHATTING WITH K AND I LEARNED EVEN MORE THAN MY PARTNERS WHO ATTENDED THE SEMINAR 2 DAYS AGO IN MINE RESORT AND SIT THROUGH THE WHOLE SESSION FOR MORE THAN 9 HRS...
.....

Brother Chank,

We didn't have the opportunity to meet Mr. K and I sincerely hope that you would share your experience with the wise man with us so that we can also enlighten us on the matter. I also attended the Seminar @ MINE even I don't read Chinese and I was there to support the event and really find alot of repeated information but then what were on the screen look foreign to me. Hope you can give some insight on what you have learn like exporting to oversea esp. China...............preferable step by step and that will be nice, don't you all think so....
a
Then, someone @ forum has told me that the speaker at the forum is good at lecturing BN processing and I am inviting him to our Association to leach us how to process and if we know the knowledge of processing, then we can another route to sell our nests. We here will learn how to build BH, manage BH, now Export BN and future..........open BN shop and sell BN drink and food directly to customers. If we know all above, we will survive and even if our population is small campare to other countries, but then if we know teach other races to take BN, then we don't even need to export our BN. An apple a day, keep the doctor away.........a bowl of nest a day, keep the doctor away will be a better saying.

Word of the day.......support BN (******Barisan National), for health living .......hahahaha

Dear MNet,

Thanks for the information on "online writing etiquette" and I truly believe that Chank doesn't mean to yell but that he is trying to make us understand him well................ Here, I learn about online etiquette as before this forum, I never venture into any online forum but since then, I just love forums, any forum.... kopi O or teh tarik or I Luv U, U mati also boleh.....ooh, sorry, out of topic so back to the etiquette writing online.

Mr. Chank, we like you but please do not to post all in capital or all large letterings as it may offend some readers. We wish all well. Happy posting Mr. Chank and everyone, too. As I did mentioned before, we are all gentlemen here but sometime we forget ourself..........just like me after a few drinks,,,,,,,,,,,,even sometime not drunk (who will know), I sometime use impolite words on some of my associates to let go my anger. ha ha....... Thank you again, MNet and great work, Mr. Chank, Mr. Lucas and all that have contributed to this forum and may it lasts very long as education never end..........

One reminder to newbiz in this industry, if your BH doesn't has nests yet....it's OK as you need to wait alittle longer as it is still not the time yet. Old BHs will still have alot of birds returning during late evening and only those having chicks will have their birds returning during the days to feed the chicks.

Again, the above are my own humble findings and others may disagree with me. If so, post your opinions to share and I will learn alittle more to add to my old files. All mine, are old files but what about new high tech approach to swiftlets industry, "swiftlets sanctuary" is my way of looking at birdhouse.

Coming back to new technology, as the government is very concerned about noise pollution, it need to be solve urgently....any new way to attract the swiftlets without disturbing our neighbours ............but it must be effective on the swiftlets not "the emperor with new clothes". Any recommendation, view or idea on these will be helpful and a blessing to owners and local government officers. Why, new BH without the external sound will be difficult to attract birds and we hope to be able to help the newbizs .................. and ourself, too.

In my personal opinion, I do not think that it is necessary to be that formal and serious in the chatting forum, after all it is not writing a job application letter or something to the Minister or taking an examination formally. It is only a very informal, casual, sincere and friendly discussion or chit chat on a certain subject of a particular interest with the good intention to share and learn. Importance here is, it should not deviate away from its original topic and gist. Also it should not be deemed rude, aggressive and abusive. Friendly jokes and cheeky pranks are acceptable. Chatting here whether using capital words or not should not be an issue. The content written whether benefitting the readers is most important.
Of course, a sincere, friendly and constructive input for improvement is always welcome and appreciated. But it should not be mistaken and sound dictatorial and rude. Let me try to re-phrase and to change it to a more amicable and courteous tone which I feel more comfortable with:
Hi, dear friend, can I suggest and appreciate that we try to apply more etiquette in the capital word in the online world in this forum? Posting in all capital words does not give me amicable feeling unless it needs to be emphasised. Please refer to the following link. This is only my humble request. Thank you.
   http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...02115526AAZ2gxV

Instead of:-
Hey do you know the etiquette?
What mean by capital word in online world?
Look here
   http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...02115526AAZ2gxV
Anyway, please do not wrong me as I merely suggest this to encourage more to speak out their valuable experiences and constructive opinions related to the topic here frequently to share with us without the uneasy feeling of being restricted to formality and thus refrained and deterred in the participation. It will be a loss to all of us here.
*
I just luv these arguments even it doesn't concern swiftlets farming, who care as long as evryone is high. My comments on the matter again is that it all depend where you are. When you have readers of high expectations, you need to be have good etiquette but another place, what seem to be impolite, it's so common and natural way of expression. Once, I was at a meeting where so many four letters words are used and they don't seem to mind but then I did but I was alone ...........so do what the Romans do when in Rome....... @ swiftlets farming, we will try to be as polite as we can for there are readers from outside and we don't want the world to think that we are a bunch of *#!@#$**&.......sorry, if offended anyone, just my busy mouth.....no hard feeling as we are all brothers/sisters @ swiftlets farming forum. Please remember that all disagreements, arguments and unhappiness settle once the dusts reaches the ground, that's our wishes, I believe.

GEM seem to be active in promoting this Industry among the Bumiputra recently and the more Swiftlets Ranchers, the better and it will be booster for the Industry. Since it's God gift to us and Allah's gift to Bumiputra, rezeki Allah...............Tuhan bagi, kami menerima, bukan??????

GEM should also teach the BUMI to take BN for health ( It is the best natural health food for pregnant women) and with all BUMI women taking BN, we don't even need to look forward to China market as we have a huge market here..................you see BUMI women never stop at two ................not like the Chinese as their's are also God's will.

By the way, GEM, how your seminars going with the Bumiputra???????

[Dear West Wing,

So you think you really know who I am. You are a thinking person. I hope you could consider the following facts. In every forum I participated in there will always be people there to malign me behind my back. Often my nicks(the handle I used) are different. How do you or others in other forum know who I am in real life from my online nick ? When I came back to kuantan after more than 20 years away, no one really know who I was. I was a stranger to everyone and yet I get treated badly EVERYWHERE I WENT. When I was in singapore it was really bad. Even strangers spat at me. A coffee shop owner told the waiter that he will not sell me coffee. I frequented his shop for years before without any incidents nor did I complained. WE never talked and had no quarrels. Someone engineeerred one incident after another to harass and to provoke.

This continued even after I came back to malaysia. People were fed a lot of garbage for them to hate, to fear, to have contempt etc. Even my own siblings had ganged up on me and had warned others of how bad I was.

How and who was behind all these were actually told to me. The hidden agenda, if you could see it, behind all these was to alienate me for some strange reasons of a demented soul from where I had worked for 20 years.

Nothing I had hope to do for the past 8 years or so were free from malicious interference.

If you could think you would be more careful in believing and worst spreading what you were told. Things are never what you were told.]

Someone PM the above to me as I don't understand what the writer tried to say and can someone or the gentleman please enlighten me on it.

I don't seem to know you and did I offend you or what? I apologies if I offended you by my postings and I will not stop posting my feelings, or what I heard, what I read and what I think as this is a public forum as long as I do not use unpolite words. Anyone can disagree with my postings and can comment on it and I really and have not even comment on your posting .........so far not yet as I can remember unless you go by another nick name.

QUOTE(Lucas 1 @ Jan 14 2009, 09:55 PM)
My next door shop house with human stay inside also kena summon le ......... seem like Segamat Majlis too hungry for money la i think ........... Check other neighbours they only disturb by cricket sound only........... Why cricket never get summon le..........
Two years ago, sometime in mid 2007, when everybody was guessing when Barisan Nasional would declare the General Election, all of the sudden; Pak Lah declared an immediate hike of 30% in salary across the board for all the Govt and civil servants without any request from related parties. It was speculated that the GE was nearing as this was the usual gimmick of BN with hidden intention to bride over the votes of the Govt servants.

In Malaysia, there are no less than 140s Majlis. Prior to the hike in salary, most of the time, many of these Majlis were already in deficits due to poor management, inefficiency, corruptions and all sorts of malpractices which all Malaysians know. These Majlis were practically survived on borrowed loans from the Federal Govt. The salary portion alone ate up sometimes more than half of the revenue yielded in. With the sudden 30% increase in the salary, the financial situation of those badly managed Majlis became worse. It was like snow added onto ice.

In order to increase the revenue, one of the fastest ways is to increase the numbers of summonses. Some of the Yang Di Pertua of the Majlis even gave summon quota to the enforcement officers to be met every week. They even openly discussed and approved in the Majlis meetings. This caused a limbo in many townships with complaints from all businesses and public as summonses were issued discriminatingly. All the YBs and Ahli Majlis faced bombardments from the public. An example is a hawker’s license fee is only RM 100 to 200 per year, but the amount of summonses he received in a year cost him a few thousand. This is also one of the main reasons that invited dissatisfaction and fury from the people on the Barisan Nasional regime that caused the famous 308 GE tsunami against them.

In fact, till today, not only Segamat BHs facing the half yearly summons, but practically, most other Majlis especially those still under BN with BH license not issued yet are practising it. This could be the main reason why most Majlis are still reluctant to agree to issue BH license. Just imagine, a normal BH license causes averagely RM200 to 300 per year. If they don’t or purposely delay to issue license to legalise your BH, they can simply give you a few summonses a year cost you more than a thousand even your BH does not cause any nuisance or complaint. They just tell you that you operate BH “tanpa kebenaran or lesen” and that is enough to squeeze your balls. To us, our BH is the Golden Goose. But in the eyes of these Majlis, we, the owners are their Golden Geese or their walking ATMs.
*
I have a little different opinion on the matter....if money is the problem, they only need to increase the licensing fee to a higher amount and that will solve the money problem. I think it the lack of understanding on the swiftlets industry and the opposition to this industry by some of the raayat on the issuing of permit especially some of the YBs and the councilors (BN or opposition) or maybe even the MBs on the matter. The Federal Government support the Industry but not everyone, maybe some state Governments are against the Industry but not wanting to go against the Federal Directives and are waiting for a valid reason to ban the Industry like "Bird Flu cause by swiftlets". Thanks God for this will never happen as swiftlet never touch the ground where most all dangerous viruses and fungus are unless we create it........

I know that our incoming PM supported this industry and that the Pahang State Government follow his directive as our PM is from Pahang. Penang and soem of the opposition Party States are against the Industry so, please don't blame the BN on the matter as the many opposition MPs and SCs and LCs are against the Industry...the most famous anti Swiftlets State now is the Penang State Government. Check it out with our BH owners in Penang and you will know.

Again, this is my humble opinions only and not a political statement.

QUOTE(Lucas 1 @ Jan 15 2009, 05:23 AM)
Penang Govt does not oppose the BH industry. As a matter of fact, they are indeed very supportive as they know it is a Golden Goose in which many billions are invested into by the local people since the past and good revenue is pouring back to the state.

There are two main issues faced by the present Penang Govt. The first issue is existence of the controversial and ambiguous licensing procedure and the guidelines which are left in a limbo behind by the previous Govt that needs time for the new Govt to investigate thoroughly the legal and binding issues on various complicated aspects before they can rectify.

The second issue is the world heritage status being granted on both Penang George Town and Malacca as a package by the United Nation in July 2008. Yearly the World Heritage Body would allocate RM 25 million each to these two cities for them to conserve the heritage buildings and sites. But this comes with some stiff conditions. The local representative of this body is Penang Heritage Trust (PHT). The PHT is very strongly objecting to the existence of the BHs operating in these pre-war buildings in particularly to those found in the heritage core zone of George Town. They even dictate that new high rise buildings above certain height limit are not permitted. The PHT is the one that is pressuring the Penang Govt to close down not only all the BHs in those pre-war buildings found in George Town but also, if possible in the whole state as well. They are threatening that if the BHs are not closed down, the PHT would recommend to the UN to revoke the recognition with the yearly allocation of RM 25 million withdrawn.

Besides this, other strong NGOs such as Penang Consumer Association and certain quarters of the public, are also objecting very fiercely to these BHs in Penang.

Malacca Govt has recently also applied pressure on the Penang Govt to close down especially those BHs found in George Town as both Malacca city and George Town are tied in a package with RM 25 million each yearly. That means if Penang loses the status, Malacca’s also will have to go. Malacca had in last early December announced firm ultimatum of extension of only one year for the 18 BHs in their core zone with no more appeal allowed.

Now you can see the dilemma faced by the Penang State Govt?  It was a good and smart move for the Penang Govt to agree on a one year extension to allow more time for all parties to study, negotiate and find way for the co-existence of both the BHs and the Heritage status for a win-win.

As to the other states under Pakatan Rakyat, Kelantan, Perak, Kedah and Selangor are very pro BH industry. Don’t find big problems except some individual cases of teething problems.

Increasing in the license fee is not the solution. The hidden agenda of those Excos and YBs from BN states especially that state Govt talking of Eco-parks under Govt Linked Company (GLC) is the main reason as to why licence is still not issued to the BHs. A good example is Johor. Don’t forget about the Sarawak Mukah’s Massacre in October 2008. The issue in Sarawak is still not over yet. The Sarawakian BH owners are still living in fear. It seems quiet for the moment as is due to the Kuala Terengganu ongoing by-election. I will not surprise if there will be a lot of commotions in Sarawak after the KT by-election. If we want our BHs to be more secured and safe, it is better that we have more by-elections in 2009.
*
Thanks for the informations and appreciated and happy if all are the true. I have the opportunity to speak to a Pahang state Exco during the inspection for the approval of swiftlets BH and I was told by him that some state Excos were against allowing the BHs approval but it was the incoming PM who questioned their reason to prevent this new industry and after that no one dare to bring up the subject again. This is what I hear and maybe wrong.

As for the Eco Parks, that I agreed with you that that is the main problem in Sarawak and in Johor and that as I see, it is caused by our own brothers in the industry having own greedy interest. If I am the MB who know nothing in this swiftlets farming, I will be also against Swiftlets BHs in the town after listening to their accusations and the advantages of having Eco farms centralize @ some location far away from town. Need not to mention other AngPows. It will so easy to do so. Cases like in Terengganu recently, some BH owners have gone over the limit in doing their BH without considering other rights. Like no no in PHT area and residential areas, the BH owners are fishing for trouble and they shouldn't have build there in the first place. Here, we have a few cases where the local government tear down some BHs built on resisdential areas and we @ our own Association do not even lift a fingger to help them as they deserved what coming....and if we do help, then the rest of the BHs will have problems with the local authorities. What's right, we will support and fight but then, what's wrong, I keep the distance and so have our friends...... we do not oppose just for opposing only.

What the Association should do is to explain to the authorities the reasons in allowing the industries in town and not the other way for personal gain.............again that is my personal opinion and little knowledge in this matter.

I could only comment on the first type of brick, Silica brick which is light weight, heat insulation and fire resistance ....all well except that it created low humidity in the BH which is bad so if you are using theses bricks, you need to plaster the surface with like one sifu here told you so............... otherwise you may end with a dry BH empty of nests.

The plastering is to prevent absorption of water and these materials is long lasting and the longer it is the stronger it get (silica).........basic rules of BH is that the temperature be between 26 to 29 which is very easy to maintain with these brick but high humidity.......is a problem unless you plaster well.

Please do comment on my opinion on the materials as I am no expert and just learning..............others have also been very successful with other type of materials and the most importance of all is how your plan and set up your BH and what type of brick is really not that very important although it will simplified your setup and cost trying to maintain the sanctuary just like the cave.

Above are my humble knowledge and little understanding of BH and me is never sifu to anyone but just a friend of swiftlets and santuary owners.

Lucas,

Good said. I am strongly agree with what you had said. I knew too many of these......people. I had even spoken to them & I knew many of them.

Many of us still living in the dreamland zone and hoping for a legalise licensing from..... it will happen but not so soon. Perhaps in many many ........ years to come but not in this live for those who are very senior. Sometimes saying the truth is hurting but we just have to face it.

The biggest failure in life is denying the truth! sad.gif

To me, we shouldn't be require a license as we are just providing a safe place for a protected species, a very special God's creation to turn saliva into best health food. It always in our own people in the industry that created this problems and now, we have to live with it. Now, as I see it is that the government doesn't know how to handle us, how to provide license which should be a permit if the swiftlet is a protected specie and now down graded to para protected and so the story goes.

Legalizing BH? That's I still don't understand and begging your pardon. are we are not doing sometime illegal here?????? I strongly accept that we need to attend course to learn the basic knowledge on Swiftlets farming as we are providing a manmade sanctuary and as such, we need to understand their behavior and how to take care of them................ ever since someone among us have started trying to control the industry , we have to follow the rules and guildlines or else we will land ourselves in trouble or even jail.......... so, if the authorities are to provide permit, we will go for it and if they want us to get license, we will do that too......................and if they don't need anything, it is the best..... and infact, it should never require one in the first place ...............do you require those if it's pigeons or swallows and not swiftlets, do you still need license. And if it is a family of rare birds roosting in your house, your house will be a national treasure ......... again, my friends, I sometime talk too much.....a thousand appologies......ww., that's me

[quote=Engineer Lee,Jan 17 2009, 12:50 PM]Hi brother home002200:

I can't see what u have uploaded, coz my company's server filter youtube site.

1) May I know how high is your proposed building?

2) Do u ask structural engineer to design the building? Normally for a 2-3 storeys building, 150mm x 150 mm rc square piles will be used.

3) Have u done any soil test? As u need to do piling, then I presume the bearing capacity of the soil is not sufficient to take the buildng load. That's why you need to pile.

4) Pile to set or not? 1 piling point how many length (1 length I presume is 6m long right?), if 3 length (penetration depth 21-24m) normally for clayey/silty soil u should be able to pile to set. But for sandy base area, u can only drive in 1 length or 2 length the most. Do not over pile for the sandy area, the pile cannot take it, just stop banging when it is set.

5) Who supervise the piling work? Any blow count recorded? U use "A" frame to pile? Is the pile broken? If the pile break, advisable not to use it again. Who is the pile manufacturer? Hume? Normally the pile is printed with the date of casting. Can you check? Normally the premature strength of concrete will cause the pile break. If this is the case, you can claim for replacement from the pile supplier. FYI, concrete gain 90% of its design strength within 28 days. So, please ensure the pile gain its strength before piling is carried out.

6)What is the level the pile crack? Above pile cap level? if above, u need to excavate down a bit to expose the pile and inspect it. If the pile is still in good condition, chances is it may still able to be used (subject to PDA test result or PIT to check any break inside the ground). If it is lower, you have to drive additional pile.

6) If the pile is broken, you need to repile (at a point at least 3 d(width of pile) away from the broken pile) , and for this, you have to do a bigger pile cap to transfer the load. Also you have to ask the engineer to analyse the cg of the pile group and check back the permissible working load of the piles is not exceeded.
U can PM me if want to know more, I am willing to help. Good luck.

Opp! sorry lah, I forgot that we have an Engineer by the nickname Engineer Lee and hopeful it is Civil or something of that sort that will definitely benefit us alot in the future as in the designs and laws and bylaws. Any form of specialties to asist the needy is deeply appreciated by all as we may not have the problem but we are here to learn. Stay with us as we really need experts like you in the forum....as for me, only a little experiences in Birds ranching to share but treating shaking piles or legs, not my specialty, hahahaha.......a thousand apologies.

Hopefully, you will be able to help the poor guy with the shaking piles as it is what this forum is for.

Hi Brother Tong:

No hope for the license liao unsure.gif . I mean license for running the BH in Johor.

I heard the most we can get (in my area) is the approval of the building plan for the standalone BH, and there is on case by case basis. The applicant also should have strong power cable to the top authority and not to mention extra vitamin to refill from time to time. So, normal people like me have to do it submarine, and be watchful of their eyes and ears, but dunno when is my turn to pay summon lah rolleyes.gif

BTW, may I know since when you start paying the summon?

Can we just keep on paying summon every year? As far as I know, the local council have the right to bring you to court after several time issuing the summons. Correct me if I am wrong.

Segamat summon rate, Renovation for BH if caught..........RM 250............
And after 6 months operation ............RM 500.............. but if you could meet with Pegawai normally can get RM 250 discount....
After that don know liao ........... cause my BH only 7 months old...............
Feedback from old farmer......... they all pay summon every 6 months for past 4 to 5 year liao never brought to court at all........
Even one BH because too noisy due to timer out of order being tear down 2 times the sound player also still operating the farm after pay the summon ( may be pay more $$$$ lo ), sometime they may give you a break if they temporaly forget about you...
As for MCA lady in Labis being tear down......... don have the feedback le.............

Pardon me if my lines of questionings or lack of knowledge in the matter and I still would like to ask the following if you think that I am stupid and don't mind if you think so as I wish to learn and if I am really very smart, then I won't ask the following questions and hope that someone will enlighten us on the matter.

1. Was the Association (Country) informed and did they act on the matter which I think require serious attention as it would affect the rest of the states and country.....

2. If so, what were the actions and suggestions given by the Association and I believe that the Segamat has its own Swfitlets Association and didn't they take any action on behalf those "kena" penalties and summons...........or that they are just using the buildings Laws and Bylaws to take action against you..........

3. Like us here when 2 BHs in residence areas were torn down, the State Association complained to us on why we, the local Association didn't prevented the incident and why weren't they informed on the matter before hand. I explained to them that the local authorites have adviced them to submit in their plans but they still didn't, and so they torn down the buildings as they are illegal buildings. In my opinion, even if they applied, the authorities would not permit them from building the BHs in residence areas. So, this has nothing to do with the Swiftlets industry as a whole and we do not understand why the local council in Segamat was issuing sommons but not action taken by the BH owners and the Association not helping either or is there anything we don't know????

My appologies if insulted your intelligent and forgive me due to my lack of knowledge and understandings of the whole situation. My lines of questionings are because whatever happened in Segamat will also affect us sooner or later and if just like virus infection, it must be stop fast and quick. Paying summons and panalties once OK but too many times, are we running Bars or any illegal outlets to deserve such treatment..........I humbly rest my case.

Just a moment ago, I met a guy who asked about how the swiftlet buz is going and I replied OK, so far so good. He wasn't happy about the birds being in town and tell me that in the end all birds must leave the town as the town was build for human and not birds. Keep your birds away from human being. Bla bla bla about all his coffee is now with bird's shit. I was surprise why didn't he complaint before, there were alot of pigeons around and pigeons shits really kill...

The argument is that if you are not in then you are out.....meaning if you are not a BH owner, you will not like BHs in town. BHs owners need to be careful not to give the lightest or smallest reason to report you to the authorities. Even a cough or a cold........ must be the swiftlets and you can't blame them so try best not to have confrontation or argument over who is right. Explain when needed.... politely.

The only way to be able to stay is to be united and stay united.

I am in Bintulu for today only and if interested to talk about this industry, please PM me.

Can teh tarik and talk.

Hey bro,

U from Bintulu kah? Or are you looking for a good piece of land to build BH but rather you stay and build in East Malaysia......the authorities here don't use gun and tank and are more friendly.

Added on January 19, 2009, 6:43 pmAs for my experience and observation, alot of selective nests harvesters may have experiance alot of dead chicks in their BHs during monsoon months if you allow the birds to breed.......as one of my friends told me that his bird house have at least 30 dead chicks on the last count and when asked further, he admitted that he have turned off his humidifiers a week ago.....so the reason being that all of those affected are those who turn off their humidifiers during this time of the year because of the raining days and that cause the chicks to suffer due to lack of moisture and food. The chick can have the soft nest to eat when there is not food coming but if the nest is hard and dry, then they would stave to dead. Parent birds cannot return in time to feed so you must let the humidifier running so that the chick can survice and fledged. This year, mine has only 2 dead and 2 fully fledged birds dead trying to exit using the wrong turn and end up dead at the stairway door. May someone correct me if I am wrong as it is just my observation and everything is base on my little intelligence.

That's why I disagree with most of the experts in the field concerning throwing away all eggs and chicks during the monsoon season (all will die anyway excuses) ........ and with the Chinaman at doorstep asking for pure white; who can resist harvesting except me and some of the poor owners that follow my questionable reasons to ponder. I may be wrong as I am not a scientist or someone doing a thesis for their PHD on swiftlet behaviors.

Oyes, story telling time, yesterday, I went up to do selective harvesting and I found over few hundreds fully fledged birds ready to flly into the new world........as I enter until I finished, almost all has fledged with exception of over 80 nests with chicks or eggs. Nests collected all colors and surely fetch very low price lah......no problem at least I sleep well tonight and every other night....... any buyer out there for color nests with eggs shell and everything nice included but only at.reasonable price, please.......

That's why when I told you that my BHs still have alot of birds returning to roast even during this time of the year although not everyday.. ...again, all above postings are my opinions and experiences and just to share with you on what I think and do....and that others may have their opinions and method of management in this field. Please do share and we all would like to learn.........

Aobve are my humble but truth experience and hopefully, it will help you all to understand the bird better.

Everybody is welcome but don't everything/eveytime has to be bumi this ,bumi that, bumi tu ,bumi ni. rclxub.gif

Like that where got fun one! Most seniors give knowledge in Lowyat never mentioned it is specific for who, all are welcome.

Does a group involves is from certain groups would make swiftlets build more nest? Definately not. Do Swiftlets choose whether it is a bumi farm or a not bumi farm to nest? Definately not too.

So Cheers! Knowledge counts not who you are or where you from.

Thanks all Senior for contributing in this site. I really enjoy reading it. thumbup.gif

Saya juga harap ahli forum ini dapat membantu saya dalam bidang ini kerana saya masih baru.

The only differences between a Consultant and here is that with C, you pay and you surely get personal services and on site examination and consultation while here you need to post your problems and we share our experiences with you all FOC. We happily share our experiences, our opinions and our knowledge on swiftlets farming and behavior without any rewards except if you want to buy from something or services from our Sifus here and must remember without any obligation on your part ......hah.ah.aha
