guys, i am curious here. cycling is a cardio activity too rite? so does tat mean tat we shud cycle very hard tat we can feel our heart beat fast or just normal cycling will do? and is hiking hill considered as a cardio?

Cycling is cardio. I think you should read this article if you wanna lose those weight or fat or burn calories...
What is High Intensity Interval training

QUOTE(bidfordun @ Sep 23 2007, 01:08 PM)
also, is taking milo o kosong(solely milo without sugar and concentrated milk) for breakfast ok?
*

I think you should consider taking something more nutritious for your breakfast. If you're taking protein inthe morning, I suggest you blend your protein shake with a heap scoop of oatmeal and milk.. its nutritious and simply delicious smile.gif

I still think the best way is that, to eat small portion of food 6-7 times a day. To lose body fat means to do cardio alternate days.

i had a cup of milo and a bowl of oatmeal wif low fat milk for breakfast. is it ok?
and oh ya, if i wanna have cornflakes like coco crunch for breakfast, is it fattening?
*

hot cup of milo minus the sugar/sweet condense milk smile.gif
Oatmeal+low fat milk = very healthy breakfast... try add in 2 hard or half boiled egg in your breakfast menu..
once in a while, i eat coco crunch in the morning.. you don't want to eat the same meal everyday don't you... you'll get fed up of it right nod.gif

Again...

My advice is to do High Intensity Interval Training. Anybody who wants to lose weight, fat or what so ever you call that stubborn thing on your body that you hate so much, HIITs is the best.. Forget about doing weight lifting first, focus on one thing at a time. Do it for a 3 weeks and gradually add in your weight training. Shawn Philips wrote an article on how to lose those pound in Muscle Media ~ HIIT and Run... Do google search and you'll find it.

dude, HIIT works...but you also gotta be consistent and watch what you eat too.

I've done HIIT..and it worked....how long did it take? I dont remember hehe sorry tongue.gif

From http://www.musclemedia.com/training/hiit_table.asp...table 2 is something what I do..although some websites might be different
I slow jog 2 mins then run for 20 sec then jog another 20 sec....When they say sprint...dont la buta buta run at your maximum speed. Just increase your speed from jogging..may be 75% or 80% ...then slow down to 50% or something..
good luck biggrin.gif

but as long as you do Cardio exercises..its all good
*
I like what you write... That is absolutely true. I did table #2 also. Mine is 1 minutes jog and 30 seconds sprints. i start off with 5 muntes and now doing it for 20 minutes. I just love the way it helps me with my weight loss routine. Btw, woman tend to have slow metabolism rate and we have stubborn fat, so to lose weight is very hard. But when doing HIIT, you can never be wrong. From 60kg last July, now I'm 54kg..

I did HIIT by jogging/sprinting too... 3rd time doing... so damn tiring! haha.. couldn't push furter, gave up after about 15-20mins haha
*
You muscle won't shrink but your fat will burn... You used the fat as energy smile.gif
QUOTE(Neek @ Oct 3 2007, 01:31 AM)
All this 30 sec spilts of jogging and running susah on the threadmill... cos the thread mill takes about 8 seconds to accelerate/slow down to the desired speed...so a whole bunch of time will be lost in the middle...
maybe i'll try the 60 second splits.

was previously on a 4 min jog/ 1 min sprint HIIT. (so far only done 3 times this way.)

Also that website say do HIIT in the morning fasted... sure ah? won't burn muscles ke? muscles are very precious to me... i dun have much of it...

Erm...
Hi  blush.gif. I read most of the pages, rules and et cetera.
Hope you girls & guys can help me out.
Hope I did not do anything wrong by posting here  sad.gif.
If I did, I sincerely apologize  sad.gif .
Really new at this health and fitness thing...  sad.gif

1) Your age, Current Weight and Height, and if possible BMI and Fat%

According to the physical examination I took from California Fitness
[They were having promotion.. So did it for free]
Erm.
My age : 19
Weight : 46.6kg  sweat.gif
Height : 157cm
Muscle Mass : 33.1kg
Body Fat Mass : 11kg sweat.gif
Percentage Body Fat% : 23.6%
BMI : 18.9kg/m^2
BMR : 1329.4kcal

2) Your Diet

sweat.gif  I am very lost in this area.. Haha...
Breakfast : Eggs, Apple and a cup of warm skim milk.
Lunch : Erm depends... Most of the time, 2 Apples, 200ml-250ml milk, And 1 bread...
Sometimes eat tuna or ... go for economy rice .... just ... no rice... but with veggies and fishies.
Dinner : Apples and milk. If not apples... its other types of fruits ... like papaya or banana~! sweat.gif

3) How often you exercise and what do you do?

I jog in the evening ... for around 30 minutes or skip rope about 500 times each day.
During weekends, I jog in the morning 30 minutes and evening 30 minutes.
sweat.gif My plan so simple .. lol....  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

Erm.. Mainly I want to lose my body fat + tone up. Especially around the thigh and butt area ... Rawr.
However I heard from someone, I should only lose my body fat then only tone up..?
So I shouldn't do any weight training or all that .... ? So I did not implement any of those into my exercise plan.
I also heard that jogging for the first 10-15 minutes will be just a waste of time..?
Erm, if so...  sweat.gif What to do then?

Erm, I am not really sure of the facts that I heard... So, that is why ask help from you experts here.
Cause... the more I read, the more confused I get... Sounds complex to me...

Really sorry, if I did anything wrong that violates the rules or et cetera.
Thank you very much for your time  wub.gif .
I appreciate it very much.  wub.gif .

U noe there have been talking about HIIT or rather interval training fast for fat loss.
The fastest is 9km/h right? or was it 9mph? +I can't remember..
Jz nw I on threadmill the first time, 13mph seems so slow to me!!!! I guess I've been doing above 16mph normally when I jog, yes, I sprint like those 100m runner...
No wonder I get exhausted easily.. hahaha! and I guess 13mph is like my normal speed of jogging... sleep.gif"
*
Different treadmill have different speed... so pace yourself and know your speed. smile.gif
Also, I know it look pretty weird doing it when everyone at the gym looking at you... but who cares right tongue.gif

QUOTE(dokidoki @ Oct 5 2007, 07:07 PM)
i think warm up 3 mins is not enuf...
*
Try 10 minutes of jog at a slow pace for your warm up and do some stretching before proceed with your HIIT program.

@ TwistedInsanity
I don't think you're to be categorized as "Fat"... I have two links for you: Body Mass Index Scale Calculator or Height & Weight Chart. You are 5'1" and your weight is 102 lbs. Hmmm.. you are already super slim already smile.gif To tone up, I think you should carry some weight. By doing so, you'll have a nice toned body instead of flabby ones. Hope this help..

I've seen doctor last week, and she diagnosed me metabolic syndrome x. Saying that I am facing pre-diabetes symptoms. So, eventually I've been controlling my diet these few days. Excluding carbohydrate stuff like rice, noodles and etc. I only take breast meat and veggie for now. Oh yeah, and some fiber bread too. Still, I'm torn between what to eat sometimes. One doc say I can't noodles the other said different thing. It has been headache for me.

Eventually, I've also signed up gym(Menara Axis-Fitness First) and been working out since. Mainly focuses on Cardio stuff. However, I am rather blur of what and how I should be doing it. In order to burn more fat-increasing my metabolic rate-that is. Kinda hoping to find someone from my gym to guide me, as in I don't really have money for trainer. Just a rough guidances would be good too.

So, if you have any comments on the dietary and workout i should do, I would appreciate it.

You know what... everybody have problems.. that you've got to know. I know somebody whois skinny, weight 45kg for 160cm and she have bad cholesterol. The doctors say this and that but it didn't help her at all. Sometimes the best thing to do is to control your diet and do some workout. Dont force yourself if you can't do something you're not used to.

Excluding carbo in your diet?? Ask yourself, Can you really do that?? Yes you can eat carbo but in small portions. Don't over indulge, small portion of food few times in a day would help you. To burn fat, do cardio especially HIIT.. but to burn more stubborn fat, do include weight lifting in your training.

The 3-Day Get Lean Plan. Who says you have to eat healthy every day? Get with the 3-Day Plan and watch your goals come to fruition.
By Jose Antonio, Ph.D., C.S.C.S., FACSM

The biggest problem with diets (besides the fact that they don't work) is that those who wish to lose fat are faced with the prospect of eating "diet food" for the duration of their program. Cheating isn't allowed, and neither is the occasional free day. But if you're reading this now, you want a nutrition program that will keep you fit for life, not just for the next few weeks. To do this, you must change poor eating patterns and develop strategies for eating healthfully. You also must realize that everyone is human, and needs a break from time to time to recharge. Everyone slips up occasionally. Now, how would you feel if you were actually instructed to cheat every fourth day? Too good to be true? Jose Antonio thinks otherwise, and his "three days on, one day off" nutrition plan will show you how you can do it. Get ready to feel better than ever and take charge of your own health with 10 easy tips geared toward consistent nutrition. You'll have the ideal food choices for three days of optimal eating laid out for you-you don't have to research a thing! The best part is that every fourth day, you get whatever you want. Don't be shy, go ahead and order that Big Mac without guilt. When you're exercising consistently and eating clean 75 percent of the time, you'll be more likely to continue these habits for life. This month, we'll show you how. http://www.musclemedia.com/articles/v117/article_03.asp

Google search.. you'll get more answer.. Good luck biggrin.gif
