Hahaha it does "save money" especially for smaller jobs like install shelves and curtain rails. I think I made enough from a few small paid jobs (neighbours and friends) to pay for the rotary hammer itself tongue.gif as compared to calling contractors which naturally won't be too inclined to show up for minor minor jobs.

For Ikea kitcab as I did need to invest in additional tool i.e. circular saw to chop the countertop and cut out the sink hole it was just over half of what the usual installation fee circa RM600 would cost.
Ignoring the cost of the rotary hammer since other jobs already paid for it biggrin.gif
*
I cannot agree more. It saved money at least initially. It is true pay contractor is more for than to buy cheap drill. I owned the hammer drill and it still cost less after few jobs around the house. Then you find out you need more specific tools for specific job because it is easier than older tool. Like rotary hammer drill can do jobs 1/10 faster than hammer drill in certain job.

At the end I have many tools. that I probably used once or twice in a year, like circular saw, planer, etc. Still restraining my self from buying table saw laugh.gif

Tools cost probably more now than paying contractor but I still get satisfaction by doing myself because I do work more careful than contractor. More neat tongue.gif

Thanks. I'm worried about the drill skidding in the beginning of the job looking at the shape of the drill bit, but then probably masking tape would solve the problem.

I think I would buy HEX-9 first and try in places where I only need one hole. If it skid so badly, then probably I would buy CYL-9 for multiple holes job (to make sure everything is perfectly level)
How much do you normally charge for drilling a hole? I need to justify my purchase by calculating holes x price per hole laugh.gif
*
Whatever ceo684 is charging, I offering 50% less thumbsup.gif

Hi I need some advise. I m a swiftlet farmer, I m thinking of adding grooves to the overhead wood planks. Shall I buy makita m1902b planer or bosch gho 6500? I'm going to use the blade that make grooves.
*
I like my Stanley
STEL630 with 700W and 2 year warranty
Makita M190 580W 1year(?)
Bosch GHO6500 650W and 6 months

I think using angle grinder as a wannabe circular saw even stand mounted is highly dangerous coz they operate very differently, the grinder is too high rpm to cut wood safely.
Why not get a circular saw instead?
*
With stand probably still okay. The wood to be cut is still small size. Acting more like miter saw.

If hand held, then very dangerous cut like using cutting disc to cut sheet metal. It is impossible to hold firmly perpendicular to cut material and any twist will break the cutting disc flying all on=ver the place. Most contractor just ignore the cover and even safety goggle for convenience.

A twist when using saw blade with hand will snap the grinder off your hand and can land anywhere. shakehead.gif

Well I did successfully opened the lugs nuts before using the GDS18V EC ABR, albeit rather slowly. I think this model will work on airgunned nuts but you'd probably not enjoy the continuous impact "sensation" due to the slightly longer impact duration needed to open all four wheels.
*
It is all about how much torque is set when nuts are tightened. Air wrench also has adjustable one. Many workshop just tightened the nuts way beyond spec and mostly just use those not adjustable one. So, max torque based on model biggrin.gif

Over torque can warp rotor or damage stud.

Any suggestion on wall scanner? To scan for wires, pipes, etc
Once kena twice shy now scared.
Kena one the plumber run the pipe horizontally across a wall.
The repair can probably fund a decent scanner
*
Normally tracing electromagnetic (electricity) and metal but not water in plastic pipe. The one that can detect PVC pipe is not cheap.

Usually you can guess how the pipe is run inside the wall since it runs in straight line and turn at 90 degree angle.

Hi all, I planning to start home woodworking DIY and planning to buy tools, I come across two brand for circular saw and sander - Stanley or Makita

Stanley
https://shopee.com.my/product/336820079/407...82-1630813039.9

Makita
https://shopee.com.my/product/80183826/7716...82-1630813178.9

I see the Stanley saw is 1600w Vs Makita 1050w, is there much different? Which one would you recommend? I saw online seems like Stanley is mostly hated in US because of quality and after sales service

Thanks
*
That is in the US laugh.gif

Dewalt, Stanley, and Black and Decter are all under Stanley and Black & Decker.

Dewalt bought by Black & Decker long time ago. Later Stanley merged with Black & Decker to be call what it is now.

I own Stanley circular saw for reason of warranty cover. laugh.gif

Dewalt - 3 years
Stanley - 2 years
Black & Decker - 1 year

As for my knowledge, Stanley is hot brand. Many companies want to sell their products under Stanley name but of course you will have to agree with Stanley term. For example, Stanley water-jet washer are from many other companies over several years. Now it is actually a product from an Italian company called AR Blue Clean. You'd be surprised that the warranty for similar model is only 1 year from the AR Blue Ocean but 2 years if you buy Stanley re-branded one laugh.gif

I'd say probably just buy any known brand that is most convenient to get service from just in case you need one. wink.gif

Get at least a bosch instead of none brand. Even it is unplugged, when you hold it you can feel the might flow through you.. smile.gif
*
That is probably more on perception most people have because of brand name. Bosch has many models and made using cheaper motor from China nowadays.

Even the US customers have complains on quality due breakdown frequency. They even compare made in US and China, Philippines, or Malaysia. Well, they probably less aware that even Milwaukee also made in China laugh.gif

*
Yes, makes sense. I can send my Dewalt and Stanley not far from my house for service smile.gif

Pink color tool was released in 2011 by Makita to support Susan breast cancer foundation. I think more on small compact tool. More light weight. Same like Bosch release of smaller and compact tool biggrin.gif

hi...

any mini chain saw to recommend?similar like attached photo...

thanks...

Why do you need one? For what purpose? For me people probably buy out of curiosity, not for it purpose. Reciprocating saw is more practical. Chain saw you need to oil the chain too. smile.gif

this have too ..but the mata not sharp after used for sometimes ..
use more energy to pull up ..pull down ..
no makita brand tools ..
china mini saw cordless not recommend?

thanks ...

I guess it is like buying 4D. If you are lucky, it will serve you for some time but if you're not then prepare to throw it away.

Buying China with unknown brand name that change every month is like gambling. Lucky if you can find spare part. The battery also need to know if compatible with any known brand, else become useless.

Now even known brand are amused by these toy. Name like Stihl even made one but some of them uttered disappointment because it broke down laugh.gif

not from Maribest ..from other shop ..i found cheaper in lzd...
get it tml with 9off every 99 purchase ..

thanks ...
*
I wonder what battery pack is compatible.

It is not the voltage. If the motor can accept 20V, then you cannot use 48V for example. How long it will last depends on the ampere. I saw option for 6A battery but cannot find any shop that sell the battery only.

How long it will last depends on what you cut and motor power.

I believe the pole is pretty standard like those painters pole that you can buy from Mr. DIY.

Stainless steel is heavy. YOu want to use your energy to cut branches, not lift pole laugh.gif

My other friends who own hobby orchard also uses the manual extendable pole saw to trim branches and also pole netting to pluck fruits.

There are few types in the market. I am not sure which type is yours. Mine is the zig zag teeth and it cut easier compare to a straight row teeth.

I am not sure the purpose of your purchase. If is just one off job every few months, then treat the chainsaw as a fun 'toy' and it should be ok.
*
There are 2 main type of blade. Once is for cross-cut and one for ripping. Like its name said, one is to cut across the wood grain and the other is to rip along wood grain. If you cut branch with ripping blade of course it will be harder. wink.gif
