Hi all,

After a few days of debugging and trying to understand the issue of my mobile phones connection to wifi, I have narrowed down to the following observation.

Symptom of the issue:
- on certain website/app, got issue to upload or connection issue. Example, lowyat forum, cannot upload or post image.
- on Mudah app, cannot post picture, no picture uploaded, same issue on both app and website.
- twitter login cannot work.

The above issue disappear when I am using VPN (Tunnelbear to Singapore) or when I am disable wifi and turn on my Mobile data.

Anyone got any idea what could have caused the wifi connection issue on my phone? Why when on Mobile Data and even on VPN, it works well already?

Thanks!

appreciate all the help here. as heavy mobile phone user, it does somewhat impact my usage.

If you using Android, download this speed test apps and post back the result :-

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...droid.speedtest

p/s you need to provide feedback so that we can understand you problem.

Sure thing WebWalker, just that i am not sure what details I need to provide.

Please see attachment on the speedtest i did on the same exact server. But my laptop and ipad mini works fine. However, Note 2, Note 5 and Mi Note phones all cannot detect upload. This is actually causing some issue on some website, example if i use Mudah to post item for sale, if i want to upload picture, my ipad mini can easily upload picture via mudah website, but using my Note 5 phone...it will not be able to upload the picture at all when on wifi mode.

However, when i use mobile data or VPN, it is able to pass through...

i am not sure if this is unifi issue, router issue or phone issue. If phone issue, how come all Android phones I have are impacted? But if router issue, how come my laptop and ipad works fine?

This only happens to your mobile phone, and not other devices? pc, laptop, etc..
Is your android phone stock or heavily tweaked/rooted/etc? You might want to check from this perspective.

Since this only happens to your android phones, I wonder if you have similar problem to this user.
Can you try and feedback?

Do you have this issue previously or just started having this problem after replacing a new wifi router for example?
I am trying to figure out based on the wifi perspective now.
- channel crowded?
- single ssid with dual band 2.4/5ghz or multiple ssid with separate band?

First of all... I really would like to thank you for taking the time to help me debug... trust me... I spent a lot of time already but still issue no fixed... a bit frustrated but oh well... even tm technician came to my place and wash hand already... say phone issue... not their scope anymore
..

So to reply to your questions:
- issue only happen since I change to unifi with new router. Tp Archer c1200 I think. However when I go to my uncle house use same router but on unifi 50mbps... no such issue.. all our phones work well using the same model of router from my uncle place. I tried to copy all the settings.. like not helping also...
- single ssid with dual band. I tried disable 5ghz.. tried disable Wi-Fi password and purely just connect direct without password... same issue...
- I tried single channel and limit to 20Hz or 20MHz band... disable the 40... still same issue...

Works on laptop ... desktop... iPad...comnection works fine for all of them...

Please bear with me.
I have faced similar issue with my 2 Microsoft lumia phones (630 and 640 lte) on my wifi.
My hunch is on the wifi issue.

Can you please separate the ssid.
1 for each band.
For 2.4ghz select either channel 1, 6 or 11. Wavelength 20Hz.
For 5ghz, avoid DFS channel. Wavelength to 40Hz or 80Hz.
If you have neighbor, please lower the transmit power of your 2.4ghz.
If you can scan your neighbor wifi channel, then pick the least crowded channel.
Those phones that can connect to 5ghz, can you connect them to that 5ghz ssid only.
Let the older or slower phone connect to 2.4ghz.
I am not sure if your router has "airtime fairness" mode, you need to disable this option.

thank you both for the inputs.... for the record, TM technician came to troubleshoot and finally they single out the router as the issue. The exact cause is unknown as the technician told me need more time to debug.

But luckily, he was using Android phone and i manage to show him the issue using his personal phone.

So the issue is a bit funny... the router given to me for unifi lite was TP-Link router, i think Archer C1200 model... my relative is using this exact same router model using the 30MBps unifi package...but the technician inform me different package, it is different (something about server or routing), which i don't really understand...

so it seems that this issue is limited to unifi Lite package with TP Link C1200 router only....

End up i got a new router and it is working flawlessly now.... rclxms.gif rclxms.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Finally i can enjoy my unifi....

I also have the same issue with TP-Link C1200 router. My android phones all got zero upload speed when tested with speedtest app.

I already complained to TM about this & hopefully they will change the router for me.
