Hope those have experiences can give advice in this matter.
My cousin is going to have a small wedding dinner in a hotel.
The hotel is not responsible for applying MACP permit/license on behalf of clients.
My cousin wrote an email to the MACP Berhad. And here is their reply -
As long as there is music engage during the event, MACP is a must obtain.
The fee is calculated based on 15.9% on the Total Expenditure on Provision of Music including without limitation, the total costs paid for sound system (including karaoke), performers and/ or persons accompanying the performers such as musicians, dancers, back-up singers and disc jockey. The fee is subject to a minimum fee of RM424.00 to maximum fee of Rm10,600.00 per event
per day per venue.
For your information, there is no DJ, no live band performance such as musicians, dancers, and singers.
The wedding dinner package including complimentary usage of basic in-house PA system for background music.
My cousin is not going to have Karaoke singing session, therefore he will not rent the Karaoke set from the hotel.
He thought of playing own collection of songs using the hotel basic in-house PA system.
In this case, does he need to apply MACP?
If yes, what would be the cost according to the criteria/reply from MACP Berhad?
