QUOTE(BetfairTrader @ May 17 2019, 06:30 PM) i wanted to invest in gold and i was deciding between the difference of buying gold or buying gold mining stocks (which price supposedly mirror gold price) Malaysia doesn't have big gold mining companies. So duh.. there is none in KLSE. For the commodity related stocks, it's mostly OnG or Plantations on KLSE.. That's a reflection of our economy. and then i went and did some research, well there are no gold mining stocks listed on KLSE, there is however GOLDETF, but its not a gold mining stock and lacks liquid. Last few years, commodity generally has sucked as a long term investment, but u can still make money if u are observant enough. Look at the few months price chart of Felda. Even such a sad company could have made you nearly 100% returns fif u buy in January! And if u want pure gold. There is the Affin Hwang Goldetf (0828EA). I personally have some of that atm. QUOTE(BetfairTrader @ May 19 2019, 01:03 AM) is that a recession hedge or do you have a gold bias ? Im not bias towards gold st all. If I'm bias ithe allocation should b much higher right? what i mean is do u buy gold just to protect against doomsday or u buy it because you wnt to speculate on gold? Gold is not a good recession hedge to be honest. Bonds are better. Gold is for something worse.. Crisis, conflicts,, debasement of currency etc. Its insurance investment. Early last year my gold allocation was less than 5%. Now it's more than 10%. I slowly top up when I can. It's just my sense of the risks of economy f**k up has increased. I also hv bonds n cash (MYR n USD) n some stocks of course (hence I'm more active here). |

QUOTE(moosset @ Aug 17 2019, 01:41 PM) I know but they are considering to list themselves on HKSE. I don't know the actual structure n last report I saw the listing has been postponed. Btw AliBaba NYSE listing is not its shares, but is in the form of American Depository Receipts.I wonder if they are price difference or % of movement difference. I would expect that there won't be too big a difference between the prices in the 2 markets. However, it won't be exactly the same either, due to time zone as some news could impact one market before the other. |

QUOTE(Gold Ace 88 @ Aug 20 2019, 02:33 PM) Hi, I am newbie here. Was recommended by friends to check in here. I am looking to buy some good Counter to grow my tiny fund of RM50. Can any experience investors here recommend some steady Counters that are recession proof with minimum downside in bad global market environment that can also be consider both as a dividend yield and growth stock. Thank you all very much ! Save until u have at least RM5k..https://pictr.com/images/2019/08/20/5NE9cV.md.jpg This post has been edited by Cubalagi: Aug 21 2019, 10:48 AM |

QUOTE(moosset @ Aug 29 2019, 11:24 AM) Do you guys queue your stocks at certain price? I never used it actually.. for example, if the current price is RM8.50, do you queue at RM8 with GTD order?? but if the stock suddenly tumbles due to glitch etc to RM 7, then we'd have accidentally bought the stock at RM8? Say I like a stock, but I don't like the price enough to buy at tht time. I will put it in my watch list (which could be even my head only when Im lazy) with some idea of what a good price should be. When the price hits that level, I re-assess the stock again n then buy. I'm not particular of a few ticks. Same as a sell.. I prefer to keep things flexible n in control. |

QUOTE(bmwcaddy @ Sep 19 2019, 11:56 AM) How long did it took for your portfolio to leave the negative region (considering the losses from brokerage as well, not just pure capital P&L)? Bad time for me was in end 2015, but by mid 2016 already recovered. Nowadays smarter (or luckier). But it really depend on composition of your portfolio, timing and your corrective actions. Hard to telll. Possible that it can never recovers.. This post has been edited by Cubalagi: Sep 20 2019, 11:34 AM |

QUOTE(moosset @ Sep 29 2019, 01:16 AM) Berkshire's cash pile is worth nearly 60% of its $208 billion portfolio of public companies. Similar to Berkshire. At the moment, approx (+- 1%):What about you guys? What % of your assets in cash? so keep cash and wait for the next financial crisis? 40% Equities 30% Cash MYR 5% Cash USD (was 10%) 20% Bonds MYR 5% Gold (was 12%, but took profit n moved to bonds and some equities) This is not yet a financial crisis allocation.. More like balanced. This post has been edited by Cubalagi: Sep 29 2019, 03:11 AM |

QUOTE(moosset @ Oct 4 2019, 03:52 PM) sorry, I need to ask a stupid questions as I'm not familiar with options, warrants, derivatives etc..... (even though I've read them up, I'm still not quite familiar). U can sell or wait until the date of maturity to exercise the warrant (top up cash to get new mother share).I've been given stock-WA & stock-WC in my portfolio..... what do I do with these? A warrant being an option is a leveraged instrument of the underlying mother share. Meaning it's value can go up or down at a higher % than the mother. There is actually a math option formula on what's the actual value of the warrant at certain point in time. However, this WA type of warrants is a company warrant without market makers (unlike C n H warrants), so the value sometimes doesnt follow theory one. There is also time decay to be aware off. An option losses value over time. |

QUOTE(moosset @ Oct 4 2019, 09:52 PM) Are we following the American warrant or the European warrant? U have to read the disclosure.. Company warrants can be both types. At the maturity period, if u don't exercise n u don't already sell, u burn lar. But if it's out of the money at maturity, it's burn already. I thought a warrant is a derivative that give the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell a security at a certain price before expiration? What if I don't want to buy the underlying security? To be honest, I want to get rid of those stocks ASAP, so I don't think I want to buy more of the underlying security (unless I want to gamble). I never exercise one before, always sell on market way before. . This post has been edited by Cubalagi: Oct 4 2019, 10:15 PM |
