Initially, I thought that I could live with 256Gb but even with minimal photo editing and video work, I realised for my office job I am already using a lot of space especially those on my cloud drives such as Amazon Cloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive.

Even by being selective on what folders that I need to use more frequently but more and more storage space is used for documents, photos, backup and also applications. Creative Suite and Microsoft Office suite of tools also take up a lot of space!

yup, this is what i had told many who 'insists' that 256gb is good for them who have been giving tons of reasons to 'justify' their 256gb choice that 256gb is certainly not enough and soon it will become the bottleneck of their macbook.

given the amount of money spent on macbook, to save a few hundreds bucks by choosing 256gb but end up due to not enough space and make the macbook not usable, it is totally not worth it. cool2.gif

256gb is not even enough to backup a 128gb iphone.

My MBP is 128GB. It is bearable but I wish I have more. It is quite inconvenient as I almost always needs my external HDD. One thing I am damn glad is there is Spotify. Else with my MP3 I will be really constrain. I would recommend 512GB minimum so u can keep all ur data on your Mac and only backup as needed and not to have an external HDD as a secondary drive.

It is a bottleneck. Given the speed and power of macbook. If one needs to use it for 5 years or more. 128gb is a total waste of time.

I agree 256gb is not enough for long term, but to addon another 256gb to 512gb for MBP is an additional RM920. So I will think twice, considering nowadays a 1TB HDD only cost RM200+, which is good enough to store my backup files and movies collection.

If u dun go for 512gb then u just have to bring the portable hardisk with you all the time lo. That's compromisation.

however, one should be aware that portable hardiskis good for storage, but it is certainly not good to use as a 'working' storage. portable hardisk the data transfer is totally cannot compare to the PCIe Apple ssd. Imagine one tries to edit a video, he will know why it is so.

Considered after the OS installation, how much storage space has left over. The amount of storage space you can use for working is very limited. It will become a bottleneck ultimately

Again if one needs to use portable hardisk along with his macbook. It already means the storage is not enough.
So it is not because it is 'enough' but ppl try to force themselves to be enough due to the Budget.

So in the end it is still not enough after all.

yup, indeed. so i will be hesitate to get 256gb since my 512gb i only left with 80 to 120gb free space to work on most of the time on my macbook.

Yes, but compromised have to be made for now...

Not going to change just for the sake of storage. In the future, I definitely won't look at it lightly lol

Yup, of course, it is certainly not worth it to change.

So this is the reason why the extra bucks matters during selection as one sensibly cannot upgrade the storage due to the price or hassle of upgrading. This is why the extra paid will be worthwhile.
