in the days long before handphones were popular n when the land line was king, the toll free n 1300 numbers were likely marketing tools to get customers call companies in the service sector eg. retail or food or hospitality or insurance, etc. to get further information on their products without having to pay for the call or at the cost of a local call even when calling from outstation.
