I have the same issues with my Archer C1200 V1 too. Recently upgraded my firmware but I doubt if the problem is really solved. I did some research and sifted through the firmware blame comments. Finally, I found a Youtube video of another TPLink Router owner with slightly different issues:

How to fix a rebooting or stuck TP-Link Router W8960N - I wish I knew this earlier!

I guess that insufficient power supply will cause the router to "dim out" and thus causing a restart.
I might try to get a higher amp rating power adaptor instead (2A instead of 1A) and see if the problem will be solved.
Any of you tried using a higher amp P/S adaptor for this router before?
*
I only tried 12v 1A with my dad universal AC-DC adaptor. Still auto reboot. Too bad I don't have 12 2A adaptor.

To trigger the auto reboot, run a bittorrent session with 500 connections.

Normally the auto reboot will happen if there are heavy connections (such as torrenting). At first, I thought the router is overheating, so I open the case and put a mini 5V usb fan over the chipset. Still auto reboot. sweat.gif Ended up removing the fan and putting back the router case.

Shorter range than my asus rt-n12hp, resulting in very poor connection and slow speed.
*
The rt-n12hp has 9 dbi antennas, while the c1200 has 5 dbi antennas.

Higher gain antenna can reach further but has narrower coverage field. It is good for fixed WiFi connection (the device won't move around, such as desktop, printer, smart TV, etc.) that are some distance away and located within the coverage field. If the connection is moving around (smartphone, laptop, tablet, etc.), you will get good connection at certain area, and poor connection at certain area.

Lower gain antenna has broader coverage field but shorter reach. It is good for both fixed and mobile WiFi connections, that are located not too far away.

The main advantage of c1200 is its 5 GHz band. You can enjoy fast speed with wireless-ac connection.

thanks for the input.

OMG, I should read this thread before I buy!!!
I just bought a new TP Link Archer C1200 V3 router last week via online, ard RM300, and just received few days ago, use 3 days now, feel wanna cry....

I am using Maxis home Fibre, previously come with technicolor tg784n, I am tired with the default router, always reconnect wireless, bad coverage....that is why I plan to replace it during 1111 online sales....

I saw this C1200 is new version than C5, though new will be better, but now I regret.

so far 3 major issue,
1) auto reboot randomly ( I guess u guy know this)
2) connected device suddenly lost connection, and reconnection fail with incorrect password error....I can login to router via LAN, the wifi password same, nobody change it, after restart router without update anything, everything work..
3) router hang, all device not able to connect to router including LAN. restart solve.

So far I use 3 days, I cant remember how many times I manually restart router, and sometime it will help me auto reboot....this is really worse than default router...

So far any solution ?

For modern smart TV that supports 5 GHz wireless-ac and high resolution display (full HD, 4k, ...), you need the wireless-ac WiFi for smooth and lag free high resolution video streaming. C3150 or C3200 are good choices. I use C2600 (still sold in the market, but already taken off from TPlink Malaysia website), so far so good. My router is at 1st floor and my TV is at ground floor, about 20-30 feets apart.

Look for these 2 keywords in the product: MU-MIMO, beamforming.

if i don't want to change router, is there any wifi extender that i can use? can't use powerline adapter because the house is in 3 phase.

WiFi extender will slow down the maximum WiFi speed to half for devices connected to it. However, its purpose is to extend the coverage for far away devices, which WiFi speed will not be too much if connected directly. So, it still able to improve the WiFi speed for those devices.

Example:

Far away device support 300 Mbps Wireless N. Max speed is 300 Mbps. Due to long distance, actual direct connection speed is only 12 Mbps.

With WiFi extender, maximum Wireless N speed for that device connection is 300/2 = 150 Mbps only. Actual speed connected to the extender which connect to the router could be 75 Mbps, still much better than the 12 Mbps direct connection.

So, if distance is near, direct connection is faster and stabler. If distance is far, the extender can help to boost the reach and the actual connection speed.

For review of TPLink WiFi extender, can refer to the link below:

Got.......
The sure-fire solution is .....disable SPI Firewall. Seem like there is a bug with SPI connection state management which causes the router to hang and reboot when there are too many connections. Not sure if it is buffer overflow or memory leak. hmm.gif

Disabling USB Sharing kinda reduce the auto restart frequency a bit.

I warn you......disabling firewall is....really not recommended for security reason.

Nope. If the firmware is the problem source, I will get the GPL source code and perhaps debug it to find out the root cause.

Edit: I searched for rooter goldenorb and found the website. Flashing the router might change the power requirements as well.

yayaya, disable firewall sound scary, especially i got public address enable.

I called TP-Link support, this is new router, with so many known issue, I requesting to return/refund, but they want to investigate first, so far I provide all symptom and info, waiting their response.

From all other Lowyat forum expert experience, the old series C5/C7 still the best and stable. not sure whether I still can get it...

@JohnLai Perhaps due to the processor is hitting the high temperature & caused the throttled, which make sense the router is rebooting.

doh.gif I mentioned that I opened up the router case and installed a 5V USB fan 2 cm above of router chipset.........still auto reboot during heavy torrent session or random reboot after several days if no torrent client is running.
Disabling SPI Firewall somehow fixed it....but this is not a solution.

If dying during torrents, usually means not enough RAM. What's the max connection you set in your torrent client? Try reducing that and find a sweet spot. Mine is set to 10000 but it never reaches that high.

Sorry, 10000 is for my Mikrotik router.

You must be heavy user so get yourself a more powerful router.

TPLink C1200 only has 128 MB RAM.

You should get C2600 which has 512 MB RAM.

C3150 RAM is 256MB.
C3200 RAM is 256MB.
C5400 RAM is 512MB.

Normally C1200 tends to auto reboot at 500 connections.
Reducing the max connection to 40 or 50 simply delays when the router auto reboot. sweat.gif

No lah....light user je....I manually set the total connection to 40 and 50, but the router still randomly reboot.

I don't think it is ram issue....more like badly coded firmware with buffer overflow or memory leak.
Disabling SPI Firewall does seem to fix auto reboot issue. But this isn't what I want to do. sad.gif

Yeah, in that case, definitely memory leak. Bad firmware.
