I have an old game last time i play on windows xp. it is in directx 9. now i have windows 10, i install and it is in directx 9 too. I use MSI afterburner and riva to see the directx version. The game graphics itself is quite bad for modern standard. How can i convert to directx 11 to make it nicer?

As the game engine is made for DX9 You can't convert DX9 games to DX11 unless the game developer themselves do something about it That's it. End of story

May I know what your graphic card is? Direct X is fixed according to the graphic card. If your graphic card is Dirext X 9, you can not change it to direct X 10. Windows 10 is using direct X 9.

If you install Direct X 12, there are no problem because the specs can be downgrade compatible and you install your graphic card dx 9 version is also the same. Only the new specs (dx 12) can not be used. This post has been edited by kongming: Jun 6 2017, 09:37 AM

DirectX9 games should work with DirectX11. Direct X is an incremental dll meaning its always backward compatible. Eventually your current graphic card dictates which direct X features it can support up to. Either that or turn off hardware compatibility and run everything on software which is not a good idea. If your processor is not fast enough to emulate the features in software mode, it will drop it.
Old games that support older directX version will not look better with better directX version installed because they are simply not programmed at that time of development to make use of the newer features of directX (which does not exist that time).
So the original Diablo played with DirectX 5 will always look like the original Diablo played with DirectX 11 unless someone remake or remaster it.
