My company bought a few Power Mac G5 for the Graphics Dept few years back. Now 2 of the G5's optical drives is having problem, and it can't read/write DVDs anymore, but it still can read CDs.

The G5s are no longer under warranty, and the bloody vendor are quoting us Sony DVDRW drive, DRU500 with the price of RM350 per piece!! vmad.gif Gila siao!! Outside only selling around RM120!! doh.gif

So I'm thinking of replacing the drive ourself, with those LG/LiteOn/Pioneer drives. But I'm not sure if those drives will work with a Mac G5? I've replace countless parts on PCs before, but this is the first time I'm replacing parts for a Mac.

Is there a Mac specific DVDRW drive that will work with Mac only, or any DVDRW Drive like LG/Asus/LiteOn will do?

Anything else I need to be cautious about?

Hope the Mac gurus here can help me out on this notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Any modern DVD drive will work. Just that you might or might not able to boot with OS X installer. The rest will work. For burning within i-apps (disk utility, iphoto, imovie & etc), you need to patch it.
