Hi all. Please help, i'm a newbie in this hobby.
1. How frequent you all change your setup? A seller told me that the ADA soil fertilizing can only last for 2-3years then is time to get the soil change. Is the statement true? 2. OOT a bit, my friend bought a pack of white sand. The water he filled in the tank also become white color d. I think is probably cause by the powdery of the sand. What shall i do to make the water clear? |

QUOTE(pinchboyz @ Apr 6 2009, 06:09 PM) 1) how frequent? Thank you very much for your feedback.what u mean by setup? all those equipment or scape? ADA soil yes, from ADA Japan they also mentioned can use 2~3 years... but go check the huge tank from Mr. Amano, more than 2~3years already 2~3 years, consider long duration already 2) what sand? sirui sand? If sirui sand, do you read the instruction at the plastic there? wash before use... now only u can do is, WC more frequent... I'm clear to the ADA soil now. and About the white sand, it's Aqua Star pure white sand, there is no instruction on the packing, and the sand not for plant purpose, is just for decoration. Hi all, i need some advice from sifoos to the below.
1. Is power sand a must for the setup? 2. If Bacter 100, Clear Super, Tourmaline BC, Penac P&W, how long does the ADA soil able to free from fertilizing? |

Added on April 21, 2009, 10:56 pm@ariesto 1) nope. it's NOT a must. but it's always better to have it. it DOES gives a visible effects. i got 2 tanks without power sand and without those 5 trace elements. so far, everything grows well also 2) dun quite understand...what do you mean "free" from fertilizing? u mean the fertilizer gone from the soil? well.. IME, i'll just put again those elements on my next major rescape after i teared down the scape p/s : i just help u answer based on my experience only and since im online atm right after u post [/quote] Thank you very much 'usermode' for your quick replied. To question no.2, some user told me that spreading that 5 items(i dont know what to call them) under the ADA soil can free you from fertilizing your plant for approx. up to 9 years, is that a true? Another question is, if i use that 5 items w/o using Power Sand, is it kinda waste? Sorry for the poor explanation. |

QUOTE(usermode @ Apr 22 2009, 12:19 AM) LOL~!... that's what u meant huh... hehehe.. no la, actually that's a myth. 9 years no need to fertilize anything, mosses or anubias or perhaps some ferns might do it... but all these 3 dont need the base fert anyway. Thank you very much bro, i understood more now.but yes, it does helps you when like ...erm... you forgot to fertilize on that day, or perhaps you were out station, or you dun want to be binded with the dicipline to squirt the fert every morning... take it like this, when the plant cant find the traces in the water column, at least they got another alternate source of "food" in your tank already. some plant (like the 3 above i mentioned earlier) dont have roots in the soil. but unlike those 3 above, some plants do still need fert... so their only source of food is in the water column which will be come from your liquid fert. but on the other hand, those plant that have roots inside the soil, they will still looking for fert in the base with their roots. haiz....now so pusin pusing already...bleh~! to make it simple, those 5 trace elements as your base fert is in the soil. the liquid fert is in your water column. if you;re a plant, you'll be more happier rite when u can get food from anywhere in the environment around you. from bottom, from above...when you;re happy, you sure will be good ma...in the plant case, they'll thrive better psht.... im starting to BSing already.... ignore any part that arent contains any info... Actually i have 5 of those elements, in dilemma want to use it or sell it, haha. But after you explained it to me, i had made my decision. WHO WANTS TO BUY THE 5 ELEMENTS, RM45 only, contents for 2 feet tanks, COD Subang area. |

Chuppy2, thank you very much to your advised.
Too bad i'm not really ready to jump into this hobby, and maybe this is the reason why i'm not so willing to spend much money to make a complete setup. Anyway, thank you again. |
