QUOTE(zoejehuty @ Jan 17 2008, 12:22 AM) the substance, you can use gravel, holland sand, or others brand soil. i use ADA soil as it will lower down the ph of the water. how much to use.. its depance on the scaping you do. my 2ft tank update: 1st day: ![]() after 1 triming, now its 50th days old 50th day: ![]() just did a 2nd triming 3 days ago. |

Added on February 13, 2008, 12:44 pm QUOTE(frankzane @ Feb 13 2008, 10:54 AM) the Java moss and the 'fire flame moss' (i think so). try to make 1 bottole of CO2, keep your temp below 28C. java moss shouldn't be problem with low light. your tank is about 43L water(assume your tank is 2 X 1 X 1.2 feet tank 30W Arcadia white light DIY CO2 Added on February 13, 2008, 11:09 am you're right! that's why i was wondering why i can't grow them in my tank! beside requirements as you mentioned above, do I need a sophisticated CO2 system and very good lighting? but flame moss is abit pick. what else you have in your tank? any photo? how about PH? hmmm filter if you have low budget just get a canister filter like cy-20, 2ft don't use HOB lah
but make sure u check the bio ring. cos some bio ring will raise PH which is not good for your plants |

this is what you can do.
get a ph tester, buy some bio - ring. put the bio-ring with tap water(ph 7) in a cup. test the ph see if it shoot up. if not then the bio-ring is safe to use. put the soil in, add water, run your filter for about 3 weeks, same time you can water change until ur tank water is clear. put anti-chlorine everytime you water change. after 3 weeks. the benefit bacteria and the cycle of the tank should be good enough for the plants:) what is the budget for your soil? cos good soil will make your life easier. Light, depance on what plants u wanna keep. possible to show a pic of your light? |

QUOTE(frankzane @ Feb 19 2008, 03:26 PM) Hi, no a CO2 diffusor don't need to fill water, but a bubble count do.Wanna ask; is the glass CO2 diffuser supposed to be filled with some water at the bottom part? Thank you. QUOTE(tadpole-x @ Feb 19 2008, 11:57 PM) ok. because i plan to start with Java ferns and moss, i'm told that holland sand will do nicely. the ADA soil is a bit too expensive GEX is a good one too but its not as cheap as holland sand.yes holland sand will do too, a few DWood in your tank will help to pull the ph down abit.i dun have the light yet. but i'll put up the pics when i get it. QUOTE(geediver @ Feb 20 2008, 12:05 PM) Tadpole: GEX, ADA & JBL soil are priced just about the same. If you do plan to use GEX, I'd suggest you get the 3kg Red packaging one, its shrimp friendly. Why, you may ask. Compare the soil granule size. Easier for the shrimps to push around. Another reason, since you're going for moss & fern set-up, Cherry shrimps are the cheapest and most efficient moss cleaners. Just remember to bring your temperature down to about 25C with a dual fan setup, good amount of water flow, some DIY co2 and light, mosses thrive in well ventilated & clean tanks. ur room temp sure very good, i guess chiller only can get 25oC heheh mine is always 27 - 28, so far so good |

the 14ft tank is so well done too... post more pic if you are free.. hehe we need more poison! yes soil is the best to lower down ph. and agree DW will yellow the water, but guess there are alot youngster here.. its abit pricy for them to get ADA or GEX. if using holland sand. is there any way better to pull down the ph? peat moss don't make water brownish eh?
frankzane, light is about 1 liter water for 1W of light. 18W X 2 is not enought for a 2ft, but ask u mentioned before you will only keeping low-tech plants. so it maybe enought. why 2 ft tank no space hang fan ah? |
