The remote exactly the same as my ancient HDX BD1 Sigma chipset player except for the Egreat wording.

The BD1 was also able to display Full BD menus (but only Ver 1).

just do a search on google.search for public trackers first.
There are many out there 1080p, blue-ray remux and also 4K.
Private tracker requires invitation but sometimes they
are open for registration for new members.

This product cost above RM1K. Those who want to pay this premium price want to use it for full Menu bluray copies, BDMV or ISO. If just looking for the usual MKV blurays can buy the same thing from Himedia but without the full Menus feature for half the price.

I just upgrade my TV to 65 inch 4K. May I know how to get a decent movie player which will project my movie without seeing some pixels when I go near the TV? I am currently using MaxQ project 1080p movie file (compressed) with size ranging from 4GB to 8GB, whic is decent quality for the old 40 inch HD TV. I don't need perfect by getting over 100GB 4K movie file. Just decent quality without seeing the pixels when go near to the new TV will do. And also what will be the decent file size to download now for the new TV? Thanks for advicing.

I would think u should go for min 10-20 gb category and 40-50gb in a higher category.

Try a few and see if u r satisfied.

As to where, how and other details, should not discuss in public forums.

Becos these are illegit stuff, copyright violations.

About box players, there are plenty, all kinds, cheap rm200, costly rm2k.

Look thru threads, many box threads.

I am also considering upgrading my TV Box from MaxQ to one of the following:

Egreat A10
Egreat A5
MINIX X8H PLUS 4K Android TV BOX
Himedia H8 Octa-core 3D4K Android TV BOX
Himedia Q1 Quad Core 3D4K Android TV BOX

Which one do you all think is suitable for a 65" 4K TV?

I appreciate your help very much and thank you in advance.

to get the "best picture", u need great source->great player->great tv.

and great AVR for great audio.

advertised specs may appear the same but the devil is in the details.

choice of box can also depend on what else u r looking for besides playback - streaming apps, networking, utilities...

can also read pages 1-2 here:

ok.

it is hard for most people to comment on which one on a list or your list is best for you.

becos most people use only 1 box, haven't used the others, can't really say much.

u can google to read expert reviews or consult sellers.

or read the individual box threads and ask detail questions.

i would ask about picture quality, autoframe switch, bluray menu, audio capabilities, etc. - these are impt for large high grade videos.

anyway, this is Egreat thread, let's not derail it.

Just got an A5, very happy with the product.

Just a question. I already successfully connected to WIFI and Internet. Why the movie poster download was not successful? I can see it tries to download to populate the poster wall, but always and never successful. Thanks for your help.

he is using egreat box native player.
some brands have their own player - egreat, zidoo, himedia.
others dun hv, use kodi, customized kodi, mx, vlc.
the generic free players are obviously not as good as the native or customized ones.

i do not hv egreat but a himedia q10pro.
egreat A and himedia Q series use the same HiSilicon 3798CV200 chipset.
same soc, native player with imprex v2 engine, DTSX, HDR10 capable.
diff is the firmware.
http://www.futeko.com/navpage/media-box-comparison.php

i hv no problem setting to ycbcr 444 10bit when base setting is 2160p 24hz.
try to set to 2160p 60hz first, see if that allows u to do ycbcr444 10bit.
if not, can try ycbcr420 10bit where u will not lose anything real.

if u encounter mircostuttering, likely cause is the autoframe switching not working or not turned on.
this will happen if the setting is 24hz and video is 25 or 30hz.
there should be a place where u turn on "auto frame adaptation".

lastly, check firmware updates.
it is possible latest firmwares, incl android7 based have removed some bugs.

he is using egreat box native player.
some brands have their own player - egreat, zidoo, himedia.
others dun hv, use kodi, customized kodi, mx, vlc.
the generic free players are obviously not as good as the native or customized ones.
i do not hv egreat but a himedia q10pro.
egreat A and himedia Q series use the same HiSilicon 3798CV200 chipset.
same soc, native player with imprex v2 engine, DTSX, HDR10 capable.
diff is the firmware.
http://www.futeko.com/navpage/media-box-comparison.php

i hv no problem setting to ycbcr 444 10bit when base setting is 2160p 24hz.
try to set to 2160p 60hz first, see if that allows u to do ycbcr444 10bit.

Bro...thanks for the reply.

i think i will go with the YCBCR420 10 Bit. i agree that we would not lose much by using 4:2:0 as all 4k Blu ray are coded in 4:2:0 sampling anyway.

i will try out the auto frame adaptation later tonight and see if it works.

another problem i face is the image is much darker when i play 4k HDR BDMV compares to 1080P BDMV.

my JVC supports HDR and i tried the projector using OPPO and it doesnt have this problem. is the Himedia image darker when you view HDR material?

Oppo is not a good benchmark. Dedicated media boxes are supposed to be more capable than a general purpose handphone, especially when the phone is not making a claim to be able to handle 4k media.

HDR looks fine on Netflix and PS4 pro game but not with ripped files. I think this is due to the security issue.

When i watch 4K files, i need to switch it to SDR but it defeats the purpose of UHD iso/BDMV if we cant enjoy HDR.

this Egreat A5 is actually giving me quite a big headache.

When i want to use YCBCR420 10bit, it tells me that only 4k50 or 4k60 supports it but somehow when i switch to 4k50, it tells me that YCBCR420 10 bit is not supported.

i need the 10bit as the 8bit color banding is quite obvious. this is not very noticeable with my 50" LED but its very irritating when its on large screen projector.

at 2160p24hz, u should be able to set to ycbcr444 10bit.

at 2160p50 or 60hz, u should be able to set to ycbcr420 10bit.

both, u can't.

i can do both with q10pro.

if yr tv, projector, AVR, cables are 10 bit compliant, that is very strange.

firmware bug?

can't get help from seller or forum?

i cant do both the setting.

so far no other forum has mentioned any of this regarding the Egreat A5. Probably have to wait for the new firmware. quite frustrating.

checked again... yes, the 4kHDR bdmv is inherently a little darker than the 1080p bdmv - for the same TV setting.

i played around with this a bit...

since it is a little darker, can use another TV mode, e.g. from "movie" to "dynamic", tweak the variables it to your liking.

when satisfied, it is obvious the 4kHDR ones are clearer, more details and with deeper colors - quite stunning actually! biggrin.gif

also, like to check with u... yr egreat has the full BD menu, right?

does it work for 4kHDR bdmv, 3D bdmv?

i have managed to solve the 4k HDR image quality. i bought the Spyder 5 to calibrate as the JVR comes with its own calibration software by laptop.

i downloaded the custom gamma curve for HDR and it improves the quality drastically.

once the custom gamma curve is in place and the color fully calibrated with the Sypder, the image looks stunning.

i have also managed to run 4:2:0 10bit quality. the problem was with the Yamaha A3060 4K mode. it was set to mode 2 therefore the 10bit was not supported but once i changed it to Mode 1, it solved the problem.

somehow this Mode 1, it does not work with my Ps4Pro. my headache now is that i need to manually switch to mode 2 whenever i use my PS4 pro.

as for the 4K HDR BDMV, the unit supports full BD Menu and the 3D works too. The menu support was the main reason i bought the EGreat A5.

Anyone having the Arrixxxl UHD 4K HDR movie? It is a 10bit BT2020 HDR 4K movie but I don't understand why the brightness and the color is so dull when on HDR vivid picture mode. Other 1080p movies looks better than it.
*
what player and tv r u using for that?

i like to explore this issue further (w/o mentioning specific titles to avoid copyright issues.)

i have tried a few more 3840x2160 HDR10 bdmv's.

yes, they do come out a little dark.

while my himedia q10pro (which shares the same chipset and imprex2 engine with egreat A10) can do HDR10, my 4k tv is not rated HDR.

i am curious if such files are not well done or my tv is lacking - a 4k but non-HDR tv (will surely buy HDR next one!).

or it has to be calibrated in a special way?

there is no problem with other 3840x2160 10bit files, only those BDMV's.

still, with adjustment of the q10pro HDR saturation, using a diff tv mode and settings, i can still get a great picture.

these bdmv's are clearly good - for details, clarity, color depth, color accuracy.

4k HDR will definitely be slightly darker than 1080P movie in some way.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/4k-vs-201604104279.htm

the article above will clear up some confusion regarding image being darker. in a way, the total dynamic range has been increase thus seeing more details.

this however can be reduced by having the TV calibrated. i calibrated my JVC projector with Sypder 5 with a custom Gamma curve. the gamma curve of REC709 and BT2020 is very different therefore using a custom gamma curve would helped improved the image drastically for HDR 4K. using the linear line gamma would produced a very dull image with overexposed image and the dark areas are very grey instead of black thus creating a very 2D image with less pop in the overall effect.

as for the issue of the PS4Pro not able to handle HDR with Yamaha, i realized the problem is due to the Wireworld HDMI cable. the 12m active cable is rated at hdmi 2.0 with 18gbps but it failed to deliver HDR at 4:4:4@60hz. the image just failed to be display on my projector. when i changed to the audioquest, it solved the problem but it will have intermittent signal issue. if you plan to use >12m cable, i would suggest going for HDMI Optical cable instead.

ah... that explains a lot.

QUOTE
Let’s recap the problem in a nutshell: the HDR presentation in current Ultra HD Blu-ray films is not bright enough for viewing under moderate/ strong ambient lighting, because the HDR metadata forces compatible TVs to be driven at their maximum backlight capacity, leaving no room for higher light output. Of course, there exist other avenues (such as gamma adjustment or dynamic contrast trickery) to brighten the on-screen image for daytime viewing, but these are generally insubstantial compared with the most effective method of raising backlight luminance.
...
5 cd/m2 is very dark, roughly the amount of light generated by five lit candles; any switched-on room lamp is likely to exceed this figure. With its usage pretty much restricted to a dark room (not dissimilar to 3D if you think about it), 4K HDR Blu-ray is a niche format that may become even more niche, although in fairness most video enthusiasts would do their critical viewing in a dimly-lit environment anyway. It will be interesting to see if HDR broadcast can succeed in the average living room which is typically not light-controlled…
so, max backlight, play with contrast, i guess.

those bdmv's are not a problem then.

thanks for the article!

I think the makers have come around, rectified it.

New 4k hdr blurays aren't as dark as the older ones.

With great colors.
