Hi, i've started keyboard classes around early 2014 and stopped around early 2016 due to work/studies pressure. It's been 3 months now since i've completed my studies and i want to start getting back on track with my keyboard.

A little background about my keyboard journey:
- I have a PSR S-650 and it has not been used for a while
- I went for lessons at Yamaha but could not really see myself improving. Frequent cancellation of the classes made me lose interest and the pressure of work/studies were also the contributors
- My lesson were with Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course (almost completed the book)
- I've always had a problem with counting the beats

I want to get back on track but I'm too sure whats the best option to reignite the interest. Discipline is also one, definitely.

If i were to learn from the internet, are there any recommended sites? Perhaps i need a practice buddy?

Please share your thoughts. Thanks! biggrin.gif

Hi, from what you wrote, I can personally relate to what you're going through right now. I was also taking classes for 1 year, before I had to stop due to work commitment, but I still try to at least practice during whatever spare time I have. There are lots of free tutorial videos and sites on the Internet searchable on Google and Youtube. But I highly recommend enrolling back into class, because I feel there's no substitute to a good teacher to properly guide you and spot your mistakes and bad habits.

Pretty much what I would suggest and more is on this site:

Self learning takes lots of discipline and self motivation to keep the ball rolling. You'll definitely stumble along the way, but just remember not to give up. Good luck.

Another surefire way to improve yourself is to play with a band. There's alot of experience 1 can gain by playing with a band because you have to listen out to what the others are playing and that would provide ear training, dynamics, what to play and what not to play, tempo etc. Having said that, my band is looking for a keyboardist who is able to commit. We plan to play for events and function once the lineup is complete. Please PM me if this interest you.
