Added on March 20, 2007, 1:07 pmkennexe ... pics overall are okay but, like many beginners, you're too 'cowboy' with your 50mm F1.4. 50mm lenses, generally, are difficult beasts to tame and occasionally screws up your portraits if you're not careful. At F1.4, even with a slight tilt in camera position will blur off the face or eyes. Even in a standing position, you can make a girl's face sharp and her earrings blurred, now that is not very nice!

yes ac98, i noticed that at aperture f1.4 will blur off the slightly far part of the close up object. I'll try to shot a few more pictures with higher aperture to compare next time smile.gif. I'm too 'cowboy' with my 50mm lenses bcoz i just bought it from shangrila midvalley on that day mah... cant stop myself to try it after that, hehe btw i dont have so much choices coz i only have 2 lenses T-T

cpl-circular polarizer tongue.gif

thought so. windows on the planes are already polarized so by shooting with another one, u actually crossed-polarized it, giving it the rainbow effect. pretty interesting, maybe should try it one day myself

the f/1.4 50mm the built quality is much better than the f/1.8 version
and should be quiet during focusing

50mm f/1.8 is very noisy when focusing

You should've ask about it first instead of just go and sell. 50mm f1.4 is 1k and 50mm f1.8 is only 300+, which one is better? you do the math tongue.gif

it should be 'what you want to do with the lens', instead of 'what this lens can do for me'... it seems like you're in the latter category, which includes RICH ppl....

you shouldn't buy a lens, then only ask ppl issit good or not, it's the right choice or not, bla, bla, bla. photography should not work that way my friend,,. just my opinion.. cheers...

For a professional, it's different. It's "when you need the lens you NEED the lens", it's always a no-choice situation. Lenses create that angle, perspective, performance and optical excellence that you need for that particular assignment whereas newbies and amateurs buy lenses mostly becoz his peers has one or there are certain type of images that he is very interested to shoot, it's hardly a no-choice thingy.

See the difference?

they already choose 5 finalist during the 3rd heat.

edited : yes,the d80 itself can produce natural-looking images that benefit from faithful colour and tone reproduction, so no need to do many touch up on it.

Added on April 16, 2007, 11:43 amFor info of those going to shoot at 1utama.

Register at ground floor info counter. must deposit yr driving licence/IC. you'll be given a photographer tag.

you'll be given access to the photographers' area. there's a platform but it's too small. but you can hang around that area to shoot. the guards won't allow you to shoot from the side.

every hour from 12pm onwards, there'll be a 1/2 hr modelling session of the various fashion labels in 1utama. This weekend another 2 days of shooting. so, there's plenty of opportunity to shoot.

Don't worry about equipment. ppl are shooting wt kitlens, 50mm( that's me ), macro lenses and what have you. but the best would be a medium telephoto in the 70-200mm range.

get a flash too. due to lighting limitations, the face of the models would be in the shadows if you shoot without flash. have fun !

the shutter speed is limited to 1/200s becoz of x-sync, something that due with flash only fires when shutter start to close IINM.

the shutter speed can be set faster in the setting menu, find the option called something like Sync FP or Flash FP..forget liao

i'm not too sure about this but i think even when we view in our screen it is a bit blown but when sent for print out it is not as serious. Maybe you can varify it for us. smile.gif

it's a railroad bridge builded during 2nd world war. Located in south penang mainland small town call Nibong Tebal, 3 hours drive from KL sweat.gif but just took 5 minutes from my hometown hehe.

old railroad is not danger like LRT railway...can access anytime and anywhere, just need to be alert during shooting cool.gif cool.gif

On my way from Singapore by rail I had a chance to stop by and go over so many railway stops and stations, gave me lotsa inspiration as well, some are very breathtaking. Can't really put it into words but I am still thinking WHICH model I am bringing should I organize a shoot.

Some part of the railway has a very sad but captivating aura to it but some has a very mysterious and eerie feel. You must know, our railway system dates back decades ... even up to before the Japanese occupation. Practice extreme caution even if you wanna reckee.

nice series, i like #2 and #4. made me wanna go there shoot as well, i just in penang island..lol

actually #1 very nice too but feel that the vignetting spoil the mood a bit, coz the difference is too far, further side is dark while foreground too bright.

overall nice series.. smile.gif

Both of your models got ONE thing in common (the railway and the rooftop one) : They are not 'feeling' your theme at all. From the looks of it, your rooftop model is very concerned about positioning herself on top of the roof rather than posing properly and she tried very hard to be sexy. Being sexy is not wearing less or dropping your shirt here-and-there ... it's the LOOK. You have to look sexy FIRST before considering loosing any part of your outfit. Dun ask your model to try something else when she's not ready to pose properly. Look at her, she's so afraid she might fall thru the roof.

Well I am not saying shooting on the rooftop or the model is good or bad but you have to have a good warm-up session ESPECIALLY if the model is new. I am definitely not new to rooftops but you have to understand that a panicky model is not a good model. You guys should spend one night on the rooftop with your sleeping bags and count the stars ... haha! By next morning you wake up you should be ready to shoot tongue.gif

One way to get used to the new environment is to be there for as long as you can until your body get used to it, whether it's acrophobia or otherwise. Talk with the model, break the ice, get to know each other, chit-chat and by the time you know it, you're ready biggrin.gif

I can say it's not that properly expressed to suit your theme...but one thing no DOUBT that, it's a very good good attempt and at least it's an attempt which is so much different .... keep it up... rclxms.gif

Perhaps the pics will look nicer if the girl is looking innocent and having an curious expression on exploring an old town.

I salute you for thinking of such location to shoot.
And also salute both you and the model to have the courage to do it there.
I like your model actually, very natural look. But sexy theme don't fit the location.
would prefer more expressive type like sorrow, sad or lonely theme.

Even happy or freedom theme work well but at that height hard to do it. tongue.gif

actually that's a blue colour reflection on her left hand, i desaturation the blue colour on the war to B/W logically the blue shade on her hand would become b/w.

Second look ar? The first thought that came to my mind was "Is she pregnant?". No offense but I think the high waistline dress is not really suitable for her, plus the angle the shot was taken, turned out as if she was pregnant. I always avoid high-waistline dresses/tops coz they make me look pregnant although I'm quite thin.

Having said that, there's still no doubt that I love your photos!

The dress and the posing. These kinda dress are most suitable for 3/4 or full body poses. Should you wanna lean the model against a wall, she should flatten herself against the wall for a perfect side profile. Long dresses are very tricky, one wrong move and you'll get a pregnant lady, ooops tongue.gif

WHOAAAA ... better dun encourage too many roofstop shoots, those pics gave me the creeps man, one wrong move by either the photographer OR the model can lead to a fatal fall! This calls for serious safety precautions before any attempts for these kinda shoots sweat.gif

I rather get bitten by half a dozen leech before I am prepared to fall 3 floors down while experimenting with rooftops sweat.gif

Yes, there's the protruding awnings, the aircon compressor and the overblown sky. Ahleong Towing Company Sdn Bhd is having lunch now ... "Nombor yg anda dial berada di luar kawasan perkhidmatan, sila cuba sebentar lagi, terima kasih".

this high waistline dress look better from the previous series.. But yeah, while we want to emphasize on the main subject, the background is as important as well.. A little more attention to detail here and there at the background, and u'll have a great theme..i.e: distracting cars

Halter tops/dresses are sexy thumbup.gif . Although halters have considerably high-waistline but since the fabric extends all the way to the neck, it doesn't give as much false-pregnant-lady impression as high-waistline spaghetti-strap tops/dresses.

Enough of the wardrobe d! I'll keep coming back for your shots! notworthy.gif

Why you still trip the shutter when you see the birdcages on the backgroud? The cages are still there eventhough you throw them into complete blurness. You should've walked around the make those cages disappear. There are more than one or two or ten ways to shoot a model, use abit of common sense and tonnes of creativity wink.gif

My friend also took his wedding photos there. I looked at them and seem not as good as my other friend's.

Are they that bad that outdoor pictures need to re-shoot?

I'm using sigma 10-20 @ 12mm for this picture. The petals was throwed by my assistant, and we took 4-5 try to get this picture...

Hmm... it's not really that good but also need to compare which "package" they took. My friend's one also considered mediocre. Better take pictures by friends such as you.

With so much advertising going on, you must be very busy in the near future. wink.gif

Wow that looks fantastic but to be frank, to the eyes of a normal person they would think that looks quite fake especially the colours of the view out side.

none the less, it is a fantastic shot!

hehe I just wanna try out some dramatic feel like transformer and starwars poster. The picture is not heavily touched up but I just adjust to very warm colour temperature and apply to HRD effect.
