as i understand, motorshops around my place they use very dirty chrome tanks....
as for dark chrome, there are methods to do it, but i doubt they do it, i saw some chroming kits online, they sell the chemical package, but i dun think can ship to Malaysia.... This post has been edited by seanl: Mar 20 2007, 11:38 PM |

thanks for replying guys.
but. from the guide by Gamer. it ony uses small voltage of electric. so if i need to chorme till very 'bright'.. mean i need bigger voltage la ?? btw.. jz curious. is it that only all metal material can be eletrically plated. ? |

not only metal materials can be chrome, for plastic also can, i think i saw those like some car mirror cover is plastic also, toys and some cellphone keypad. but i don't think that can't be done by my self, and you have invest many equitments, btw i think thats is not small amount like few thousands.
here just a like about chroming on plastic http://www.muellercorp.com/chromeplatingplastic.htm Added on March 21, 2007, 4:52 pmhttp://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=123539&page=9 what i call this! XTREME WORK, you can see whole case are chrome plated. This post has been edited by Gamer: Mar 21 2007, 04:52 PM |

this very sorry la, me not pro about this, just can help you to get some very little information. maybe you can try in small piece of metal like key or screw. according the guide if too much voltage will make the color become black.

QUOTE(inteluser @ Mar 21 2007, 03:38 PM) thanks for replying guys. smaller the voltage..... u will get the fine result.... bigger voltage means it will increase the reaction speed and the surface will not be bright and not smooth enuf.....but. from the guide by Gamer. it ony uses small voltage of electric. so if i need to chorme till very 'bright'.. mean i need bigger voltage la ?? btw.. jz curious. is it that only all metal material can be eletrically plated. ? |

QUOTE(EmperorMeng @ Mar 21 2007, 07:42 PM) You'll learn more if you take stpm. Have to actually do electroplating as part of the chemistry practical.Basically, you don't want the voltage or temperature to be too high or the reaction will be too fast/agitated and the result won't be nice. Best if you use a low voltage (must still be enough for a low current or electroplating won't happen) and leave it for a long time. Main problem will be impurities in the solution, even perfectly clear-looking tap water has enough impurities to seriously screw it up badly-you'll get chome all right, but it'll be very murky looking rather than shiny. Based on my experience in my stpm practical, I suggest you better leave it to the experts. Its quite difficult to get a nice result, you'll need a lot of trial and error before you can get it right (chemistry knowledge helps a lot). If you send it to to someone to get it done ask to have a look at some of their completed work first, they should have some around. |
