Hi guys.. Since this thread will only be active next Wednesday, hope u don't mind me posting this email here. No, I m not cheapskate biggrin.gif I m just holding my ground

Dissatisfaction over buying petrol in litres

Dear sir,

The above matter is referred.
I am very dissatisfied with the way one of the Petron station in Alor Gajah, Melaka trick customer who wants to buy petrol in litres instead of currency value.

The petrol price at the moment is RM2.29 per litre and i wanted to buy 19 litres. the price is rm43.51 for 19 litres but instead of key in the price for 19 litres, she only key rm43.50 which becomes 18.995 litres. I am losing petron point and she gain a few litres of petrol. This act is very unscrupulous in times where people are trying to save money in buying petrol. Do look into the matters.

Regards,
redzaril

Their reply just now:

Mr redzaril,

Thank you for contacting Petron.

It is true that at all Petron service stations, the cashier can only key-in the sale into the cash register or “Point of Sale” (POS) in RM, as the majority of the customers do. Nevertheless, it does not mean that customer cannot purchase in litres. The cashier just need to take an extra step to manually calculate (using a calculator) the RM value of the litre amount requested manually, and key in the RM value into the POS.

For the ‘incident “ in Petron Alor Gajah, on behalf of the dealer, we apologize for any inconvenience caused.
This happened based on the judgement made by the cashier, and there is no right or wrong answer. As you wrote, when the cashier calculated the RM value for the 19 litres @RM2.29, the value produced was RM43.51. It might be developed as habit by the staff (following 2008 Bank Negara ruling to round up or down cash sales figures to the nearest 5 or 10 sen), where s/he rounded the RM value accordingly to produce the exact cash payment that could be made. It can be argued that, why not the cashier just key-in RM43.51 but collect RM43.50 from the customer. The cashier should know that s/he can also do that if the customer wants exactly 19 litres. Then do the rounding to RM43.50 when customer pays the money. Like I guess earlier, the habit might cause the staff to do the rounding when keying –in the RM value into the POS. Rest assured that you were not short-changed in the transaction.

On PMiles points, you were also did not lose or short-changed any PMiles points. For 18.995 litres, you received 19 PMiles points as the points are rounded to the nearest 0.1 decimal. The point amount should appear on your receipt on that day.

We hope the explanation above clarifies, we will communicate your concern to the station.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Basically, I am satisfied with their answer but will try buying 19 litres of petrol again and see if they have been informed and obeyed rolleyes.gif

This is true. I am with you.

Consumers should have a choice in either buying in sum or buying in weight /volume which in this case are based on liters.

If you can display the price and capacity volume, the station should serve.
