on a more proper discussion, i agree to what apple's doing, to a certain extent. If you're using a plus version, you don't really need to use your mini. However, if you're using an SE or normal iphone, then the mini still seems good.

Apple's axing this probably because of the rising amount of people getting the plus edition

It makes sense to kill off the Mini range and focus on the iPad 9.7" and then complementing it with the rumoured 10.5" iPad Pro and the 12.9" iPad Pro. After having owned the 12.9" iPad, I feel like it is in an extremely weird range which I can't find any proper use for it.

i think they should just keep the 7.9 inch ipad mini to come out ipad mini pro and 10.5 ipad pro.

9.7 and 12.9 is redundant and the bezels of these two are god damn thick.

Apple has strategically placed the 9.7" iPad to be used in education areas, the Mini proved to be too small for that. Hence the price size and it is the highest selling model in terms of that size. A Mini Pro doesn't make any sense at all especially since the screen size is getting close to that of the plus versions of the iPhone.

exactly, that's why a ipad 9.7 and ipad pro 9.7 are redundant also. they should just keep one.

Even iphone 7+ not so good if see some web apps. The best for web app still 7 to 10 inchi.

i think a person who wants to be fully equipped for all needs. these 3 items are quite ok. no more or no less.

so ipad to me, it is still an important device because i prefer to surf web or watching video on ipad.

Why tablet dying is nobody change tablet every year... you refresh the spec but if old and still can use.... as most ppl do with their tablet is easy caring arpind for surfing or video... why change??

I dun really value features over other thing. To me build and quality is for me, that's why I only buy apple products. I will buy ipad or macbook also will not spend money or other products.

Yes, ipad has this disadvantage, indeed ppl will not choose to upgrade ipad so often like what they will do for iphone due to telco subsidy. Same goes to macbook also. One macbook can at least can use for 5 years or even longer.

mini 2 is good. I am using it still but without Touch ID nowadays, it is a bit troublesome.

mini 4 only left 128gb option and there is no update early this year when ipad 9.7 inch got it, it maybe a hint. meaning Apple is trying to cut the production of iPad mini. Even iPad mini 2 got killed now.

not yet. i have ipad mini, mini 2 and mini 3. i just haven't gotten a mini 4 yet to 'complete' the collection.
so dun know if i should go for mini 4 or not though, if apple is really going to kill mini. eventually, getting mini 4 to me maybe just allowing to use for another 1 year more than my existing minis.

Personally I use iPad just for gaming because it just had superior hardware that are better suited when compared to Android. Just look at Google. Even they had pull the plug on tablet.

Personally I will blame it on greedy developers and Apple themselves. Previously I love iPad so much because I just have to buy one game and share it across multiple iPad with my sons. Now, everything is IAP. It just sucks. Secondly iPad used to be one of the more affordable tablet despite the better hardware. Apple went crazy and increase the price. I went from buying iPad every 2 years to none ever since.

Personally I think iPad will eventually fall off given that consumers have a choice for bigger iPhone nowadays. It is also more convenient to bring out.

not really. they just had separated the segments for iPad. They got the new budget iPad which is so much affordable at only USD329 without laminated screen.

and iPad Pro is totally different at high end segment.

iPhone Plus and iPad 9.7 or 10.5 or 12.9 inch there are still big gap in term of the screen size, so actually not overlapping. it is overlapping with mac instead.

the one that really overlaps to most is ipad mini instead since 7.9 and 5.5 are closer this is why they intend to kill mini.

even ipad pro 10.5 vs 12.9 is also 2.4 inch difference.

every single device it is nearly 2.4 inch difference in total.

so it means the difference in the size of this range, there is market for it.

Yes, ipad is not an iphone. I use my iphone as my daily driver and at home, i use my ipad most of the time. So yeah, two different products for two different needs.

I've bought the iPad Mini 4 2 weeks ago and updated it with IOS 11 and its smooth. Loving it.

I bought an iPad mini 2 for my 3 years old daughter a few years back. Now her little brother take over from her. iPad mini is perfect for small kids hands.

To me ipad is the perfect tablet .... I just love the size... not as small as phablet but not as big as the original iPad 9.7" size... makes it easy to carry around and also no problem for reading/web browsing .... even for gaming if you use in landscape mode it still feels ok... normal iPad will feel kinda big...

I was really hoping that the Mini version would still be updated. I know a lot of my friends especially ladies who love using the iPad Mini. Fingers crossed that perhaps they might have a new 7.9" version or at least update it with the latest processors.

Yeah, I will be waiting for both those to be updated. My wife's Mini 2 could use an upgrade and my current 2012 Mac Mini also will need an upgrade for more 4K content as my home server.

For me Mini 1/2/3 to Mini 4 already huge update. If can't wait for next year it still ok to upgrade to Mini 4 for now.

not really that huge difference from 2 or 3 to 4. Screen wise mini 4 is better but it is not something that noticeable from day to day usage.

performance wise, A8 chip is only one gen better than A7 but it is not going to make a big difference now since the chip has been 3 years old from now.

unless apple is really not going to keep iPad mini this product line which it may be worthwhile to buy and keep the mini 4 for collection now.

If Apple is really not going to refresh the mini. Then I may consider the next gen or next few gen of iPad Pro 10.5 if it is going to be lighter or with thinner bezel. Provided my mini has retired though. As of now, it still serves me rather well. I think to use it for another few more years will not be an issue.

Its not only processor difference, amount of RAM also played crucial role on the performance difference, hence more multitasking option are enabled on iPad mini 4 compared to earlier generations. As I bought every iteration of ipad mini, the difference is noticeable.

However you are right, it's using an already outdated processor. Judging on pattern on how Apple launched its products, the earliest launching of mini (if there is any, watch any rumour-going website for clarification) will be first quarter of 2018, nothing earlier. So my advice is you may wait till then if it is not urgent for your needs. Or if you really need it now, no harm getting ipad mini 4 now, it will serve you well unless you really needs fast GPU for gaming and heavy 3D apps. On normal usage (browsing, reading ebook) it should be more than sufficient.

Some people may advice to skip mini and go straight for iPad Pro 10.5 due to its performance. I did that and back to mini 4 for second time. Why? Size do matter, in my case I prefer smaller mini, easier on my hand.

There is a rumour of iPad with smaller bezel and notch on top like iPhone X for Face ID tech. If they can shrink it to size of mini, then I'm all in. However it wont happen earlier than Feb/March 2018, so there still few more months to enjoy mini4 rather than to be tabless, again its all based on your current needs, can wait or not.
