The problem could be physical, maybe the fibre cable is broken, could be within the house or outside the house.

Happened to me two weeks ago. I think the BTU light was red on my fibre unit when the issue occured. Turns out the fibre cable is broken, maybe it broke due it being old or some pest bit it. The fibre cable was routed through my kitchen to the back of my house when TM set it up years ago.

Called TM early in the morning, they came in same day in the afternoon and linked the cable back.

Free of charge as they only use a small box to link the cable. They did notify me before coming that if the problem comes from the router and they replace it, they will charge me if the router is out of warranty.

When you say it is upgraded, what do you mean by that? You got an SMS from TM asking you to reboot the router or the Fiber unit?

There is a change server option. Go to http://beta.speedtest.net/, it is cleaner and easier.

I am no expert but I think the issue is at their end, unless the modem hits the ceiling of 30mbps which is quite rare. Only users upgrading from 50mbps to 100mbps have had their router swapped by TM physically.

You might have to call TM again until this issue is resolved. The router or fiber unit has to be shut down around 30 seconds or more to take effect if I am not wrong.

Same thing for me although I live in SS 2 PJ.

I am really jealous right now seeing so many people getting the upgrade. Btw, did you really have to shut down the router and btu unit for an hour?

Finally 30mbps upgraded to 50mbps. My area is SS 2. LAN speed test is correct, download 50+ upload 20+. However when I test it on my phone the download speed goes down to 30+. Any idea guys?

Maybe not as laptops connected to my Wifi can reach 50mbps, just not my phone.

It is not an old phone by any means, LG G4. I am not sure what is the issue.

I am in the same boat, might change the router as well as my DIR-615L does not have a strong signal upstairs and my phone cannot reach the full 50Mbps speed.

However, is it really necessary or can I actually just tweak the settings? I read a few posts back, and I am currently researching the TP-Link C7.

Any other suggestions are welcomed. My budget is around RM 300 to RM 500.

As the deadline is July I think they have to. The 30Mbps upgrade should be the easiast. You should get your upgrade soon.

Mostly for 50Mbps upgrade to 100Mbps as the router needs to be upgraded to support the new speed.

I recently gor upgraded from 30Mbps to 50Mbps and no technician was required.

Did that and now I have a conclusion.

I think it is my phone. When I place my phone right on top of the router, it gets around 43+ Mbps. The best it got was around 45Mbps. Strange thing is the upload speed can always hit the max of 20Mbps ++.

Either the band of the router wifi sucks or my phone sucks. Might try to resolve this with a new router or just leave it alone for now.

My router is DIR-615 which I think only runs 2.4Ghz band. This could be the issue.

How old is your laptop?

I too have this issue with my phone not reaching 50Mbps. I test it with a laptop and it reached 50Mbps. Once I change the router to a similar class but different brand, the laptop now cannot even hit 50Mbps. The router was bought wrongly but never utilised so I thought I might give it a test. Turns out the old D-Link DIR 615 from TM is somewhat more powerful.

My guess is, the router can still play a role. Unless your laptop is really old, switching to a stronger router might help you reach 50Mbps, which I plan to do in the future. At home I use LAN on my main desktop so it is not an issue for now. It is not critical for my phone to reach 50Mbps but knowing it could happen bugs me a great deal.

Pretty normal if you are using Wi-Fi. I think a repeater/ signal booster or a stronger AC Router can fix this issue.
