What software is this? And.. basically if i do this, i don't have an option to browse right? I can only watch whatever i put in the shared folder?
Plex is media server. You can access the content with Plex apps - Android, Smart TV and web browser from your local network of from a public network
You can add plug-ino the Plex server to add various services. There isn't an equivalent to Exodus but there are other plug-ins for IPTV, etc. https://forums.plex.tv/categories/plex-channels

If you have multiple devices at home, Plex is great because it supports on-the-fly transcoding of media formats to fit the screen size. So, if you've got a movie in 1080p and try to watch it on your phone, it can automatically reduce the resolution before sending it over to your phone. No point saturating Wi-Fi with high bandwidth hi-def media if you can't even tell the difference on a small screen...

Get an independent android box la
Aisay... Trying my best to see if there're alternatives lol I guess android box it is, less hassle.
I am a normal free Plex account user...It is a media (videos, audios and images) streaming ecosystem of Plex server and Plex clients.
For Plex server, it really needs a very powerful processor to handle transcoding of media files and streaming them on-the-fly, preferably Intel processor (PC-based), Nvidia Tegra (used on Nvidia Shield Android TV box). You can even run Plex server from a Wi-Fi router (NETGEAR Nighthawk X10 Wireless) or most NAS devices. I installed Plex server on my PC (with specs below) and it still can't play smoothly 4K media. Usually, I use Plex server's optimization feature to optimize those demanding media files into ones that are suitable for TV and smartphone viewing. It can utilize local, NAS, USB-based and cloud-based (Google Drive, DropBox, OneDrive) storage to access the media files. The Plex server is free of charge upon deployment.
For clients, it supports PC, Android, IOS (IPhone and Ipad). Most Smart TV devices in the market nowaday have Plex client app. Plex client for old/new Samsung Smart TV can be installed from SmartHub. For non-Android Sony TVs, it can be installed from Sony Entertainment Network store. All Android TV based devices can get Plex client from Google Play Store. Most Plex clients must be purchased for the client price except the ones come from Smart TV devices.
About the Plex service: it has subscription-free features and subscription-based features. For subscription-based features, they are under Plex Pass premium account with different payment schemes. If you don't pay for Plex Pass premium subscription, you are just the normal free Plex account user. Most of the cases, you don't need Plex Pass account unless you are really serious about having restricted based account control, premium services etc (see its website https://www.plex.tv/features/ for Plex and Plex Pass account differences).
I like its remote media streaming service to access my media files from my home anywhere in the world with a broadband connection.
Between Plex and Kodi, I like Plex UI a lot: professional, clean and intuitive.
