Is there much difference between Nikon SB 600 and SB 800 in terms of quality, function and usage. I know the price difference is around RM500. But is it worth it to buy the SB800 instead of the SB 600. I'm currently looking to buy either one soon. Thanks.

1. What function/usage of the flash u'll be using for mostly?

2. What camera body are you having?

3. Since you seems to be able to buy either one, what is the impact on your budget on each?

a. In terms of quality, function and usage
depends on question 1

b. Is it worth the $$ extra in SB800
depends on question 1 and 3

So, the answer is in your hands

p.s. remember to show us ur photos tongue.gif

Have used sb600 before and now using sb800.

Found that sb800 is easier to use, it tends to expose correctly in TTL without need to + or - ev. While previously SB600 i feel it tends to overexpose. Basically need to apply -0.7 ev. In certain conditions it goes more than -1.3ev to correct it. Not very consistent. Pic will turn out 'subject a lot more expose, very much brighter than background'.

Simply put it SB800 is easier to control in my hands. But do note that what I mention above is purely from my own experience. Not theoretically supported nor tested.

Just a side note: I did quite a lot of event shootings and not entirely new on it.

Get SB600 unless u need the extra functions. The SB600 already has tilt and rotate function (up down left right); furthermore SB600's exposure is pretty accurate to me, little photochop required. Agree with the -0.7ev part, works well for most situations. If far off then -0.3ev would be better.

if u're using d50 then u can use manual mode to trigger the sb800 off camera. (but not in ttl mode ya!)

have a look at this link~

if not, just buy sb600 and save for 18-200 VR (as what was told by kijin) tongue.gif
