In a sense, I think similar circumstance happened to me.
After I came back to Malaysia, the 1st cc I applied and received was Maybank Visa Signature.
Then I realised it does not suit my use case, so I cancelled it. I applied and get Alliance Visa Signature - which I still keep.
Then I get pointed to Maybank 2 Card, I applied and get the Platinum version. Maybank gave credit limit which was approximately 2x my monthly salary then.
Then later, I heard about Maybank Ikhwan Amex Platinum. I applied and get rejected, more or less the same reason as what you experience.
So I called Maybank Customer Service, reduced Maybank 2C credit limit to only RM20k, then re-applied Maybank Ikhwan Amex and was approved.
Your very similar experience as mine except the sequence is sort of reversed. I already emailed Maybank as suggested by the customer service and hopefully I can get it resolved soon. Worse come to wrost, I will just followClarenceT's suggestion. After I came back to Malaysia, the 1st cc I applied and received was Maybank Visa Signature.
