Noted, now I get a clearer picture of how this entire credit card thing works, it's no difference than paying with cash or debit card, the only difference which is good, is I get cashback at the end of every month, which essentially means free money, so if I worry I might overspent I just set a credit limit that I'm comfortable with, that will do it ?
*
If you are not disciplined or forgetful, don't bother with credit card. If you are like me, I make sure to make payment on the first of every month regardless when is payment date, no issue.

For me, I only use credit card on stuff which I would still pay in cash. It's just my cash substitute. That's all. Petrol, groceries shopping, bills. Like I said, I would use bank transfer or cash to pay for them anyway.

Might as well make banks pay for some of my bills. 😁

Like I said it's a trap for banks to get you to pay them 15-20% per month in interest. They hope that either you forget or no money to pay. 😁

u may want to further earn money from bank by utilizing the 20 interest free days
*
Been doing that. But winter really chase it or else I pening.

QUOTE(Sotsotzaii @ Jun 14 2024, 12:06 AM)
I would say that I'm quite discipline in terms of managing my own financials, I will never allow myself to get into debts the same way I wouldn't allow myself to not brush my teeth at night no matter how late or how tired I am.  tongue.gif

For the things that I spend on, it's mainly petrol, food and occasionally some apparels, all of these stuff I use my debit card to pay for it, and I keep track of every single amount that I spent by using an App. So in that sense, if I got a credit card, I'll just use it the exact same way that I do, only thing is that I would make sure to pay a lump sum when the bill comes, which is at the end of the month ?

There's a statement date and payment date. Time for statement day till payment date is around 20 days. You need to pay .efore the payment date.

Hi all, i need to consolidate my credit cards and appreciate if anyone could give me advise. I'm looking for cashback credit card for retail spend.

My current holding:
Affin Duo cards - 3% for auto billing and online txn
Affin Sign Visa - 3% for paywave retail spend
PIB - 4% online txn
MBB Barcelona - 1% for all spend except gov

thinking to hold PIB and Affin Sign Visa. My biggest spend is insurance (auto bill) and retail & online spend. Thanks in advance.

PIB no more 4%. It's now 2%

Can I ask opinion on using credit cards (to earn AirMiles) vs travel prepaid cards like Wise when travelling overseas?

Difficult to gauge worthiness of paying more (when using credit cards, but earning AirMiles) vs using travel cards (better conversion rate and lower extra charges)

Any opinions greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you fly frequently, air miles is better as that's your cashback. You can get more tickets or get discount on your tickets. But all air miles people are big spender. Can you send that much to get air miles? Like say RM100k/year?

A pair of Suite Class tickets Singapore to Sydney already costs SGD22,000 in total. Not difficult to rack up the spending if you travel often.

Bro, keep in mind not everyone can travel like you do. Those air tickets is almost my one year salary πŸ˜‚

None.
But can be "filler" to achieve better CB %/amount on eligible categories (except StanChart CC).
Eg
HLB Wise, monthly spending >RM500
RHB Shell Visa, monthly spending >RM2500
(eg RM417 Shell, RM1000 Online, RM1083 Govt to get CB RM50+RM50)
RHB VS/WM, monthly spending >RM2500
*
Thanks. My spending is low. I am not going to spend extra just for the cashback. For me, I will only spend if needed. So if a card have cash back from govt services, will get it. If no, then no.

Most likely not, but if your expectation not too high of redeeming frequently, maybe still ok.

can use Alliance Bank Visa Infinite as example. let's say you spend these things per month

2000 on ewallet reload / online
1000 on dining/grcoery

You get 16000 points from the 1st item and 5000 points on the 2nd item. Total points 21000.

1 year you get 252,000 points. Converted to enrich miles, it's only 16k miles because conversion is 15k points for 1k miles.

You can google for some pictures, i found one from genx geny genz blog... according to his picture april 2024, economy one way to tokyo starts from 19,600 and business one way to tokyo starts from 66,600.

So you spend one year + maybe 2 months, to get potentially one way ticket to tokyo (you still need to pay tax) and 19.6k is probably lowest, but still achievable if you are ok with odd-days. then you need to kumpul 4 years to get 1 way business class ticket.

this is based on lowest (saver rate) vs cashback you could have earn...? depends on what you want...

Very not worth it. I cannot spend much also.

The answer is depends. If you are frequent flier than 2-3K monthly spending won't cut it at all. I don't fly frequently, which allows me to collect some points to convert to miles.

You can pay for your air ticket using points. Meaning to say a RM 200+ air ticket may be offset by 15K enrich points [this was way back before the mile points got inflated].

In instances of emergency, say a death of a relative close to festive season, air tickets would cost an arm and a leg, you can also use the points to knock it off.

If you intend to go down this path i.e. collect miles, then i suggestion the following:

1. identify the carrier that you intend to use most frequent (for instance, certain credit card only offer MAS example, HL VI, AMbank VI Enrich or Alliance Bank VI)

2. find the card that gives most BANG for the buck RM 4 spend to 1 Enrich miles (Ambank) or RM 3.5 spend to 1 Enrich (HL VI).

3. find a card with the least amount of exclusions, for instance, if the 2-3K monthly spend is mainly JomPay and the card excludes collection of points using JomPay, then you will get nothing at all.

I am person who if fly usually fly AirAsia. Economy. The cheapest possible. No brand loyalty. The cheapest flight.

I don't fly. Last I fly was like 10 years back.

Before. You need to fill in the KF account no. It’s free and easy to apply one anyway. Sorry I thought you were applying for AmEx KF. laugh.gif

If any other airmiles cards, you can apply the account later. You only need it when you redeem your points.

Fill up on the form when applying for the card?

That card is not too bad but the AF cannot be waived and no written spending condition to waive AF.
*
I know Maybank memang cannot waive. I was thinking of getting the UOB cards for overseas spend but cannot bring myself to pay extra 3% for the transactions.

I have a few question

1) i already have MBB 2 plat. Is it possible to apply for MBB 2 gold and would the monthly cashback cap be separate between the plat and gold?

2) the amex weekday 5x TP value conparison vs the MBB krisflyer amex point value. Is there much different point value wise between the the 5x tp vs the krissflyer amex. Im juat thinking if it’s worth it to apply for the krsflyer for expense that exceed the cashback cap

3) do maybank have issue waiving the krissflyer amex annual fee?
*
You cannot have both. You can only pick one.

If you fly a lot yes. If you don't really fly, not worth it.

Maybank very stingy with waiving the fees. So answer is likely cannot waive.
