rgd culdcept saga (asian):

p-a already scanned the cover. JPN/CHI i guess means ENG VA but the text can select between JPN/CHI? JPN text only, VA is still Eng. basically its a cheaper version of the updated JPN version on sale 2mro.

but i think playing a linear jrpg like trusty bell (in JPN) will be easier for importers than playing a card game (in JPN), maybe can print out a translation from gamefaqs later icon_idea.gif

erm... tales of eternia (ToDII) dint sell well in the US - partly due to bad timing, releasing a ps1 game on sept 10th 2001 is just unfortunate.

yet, eternal sonata has a tentative release date of sept 11th also. sounds very inauspicious to me. mb its a inside joke at namco usa tongue.gif tongue.gif

but actually, any game release b4 halo3 and gtaiv stands a better chance for good sales. the same reason mgs4 will be delayed to 08 perhaps? laugh.gif

Trusty Bell(Eternal Sonata) demo HANDS-ON

I got the news that eternal sonata had released it's demo at 9:15, so I instantly turned on my Xbox360 and log in as Japan acc to start download. After 3 hours of hard wait (approx. 580MB), I found this game the best RPG in the next-gen console so far.

The graphics are superb, you can merely see glitches on the characters. Music was also a big hit, as it stimulates your senses, making it hard to leave your hands off the controller. Voice acting is nice from the battle conversations, but sad, I cant distinguish Aya Hirano's voice...

The battle is special. Three characters are usable in the demo. Each character has 5 seconds to walk around the battlefield and slash your foes. Normal attack is triggered by the A button, Y for the Special Attack, B for defence and X for item. Pressing the LT button in battle will change viewer's tilt, and LB button changes the item assigned for button X. Hitting the Y button will perform a variety of special attacks, depends on which second and your combo count. Don't underestimate that 5 seconds, cbecause one wrong step will wipe your entire party.

The demo has around 1 village and 2 forests for you to explore. The atmosphere are nicely build and the color/lighting are extremely well done.

Trusty Bell-Chopin no yume- will be released in Japan on the 17th of June.
A must buy

I've mixed opinion about this game. Keep in mind the bloody thing threw Japanese text and VA at me, there's a lot of things I've probably missed.

The graphics, well, it's okay I guess. Nothing the 360 hasn't done yet. The battle system is quite fun at first, but I find myself mashing the A button quite often before hitting the Y button. Having to press B at the correct moment is a nice touch, keeping players on their toes instead of watching their characters helplessly beaten. The enemies is kinda meh, but I enjoy the boss fight a lot. No random encounters = big plus. I don't understand Japanese, so I can't comment on the VA, the translation and the story. The character design is a nice break from GoW's macho fest.

Now if only they release a demo for Asian consoles in English.

Indeed.
20 hours needed to complete the game.
Wonder what kind of achievement it packs with it.
If everything can be gained within 20 hours, then this game is gonna be from the Pasar Malam thread.

Thanks to my friend.

Status: 1:30 hours of gameplay, still in chapter 1, struggling with second boss. Currently having so much fun with the game. (Aya Hirano's <3)

Media Create software sales tracking for the period June 11-17, has listed Trusty Bell in 2nd place with 49,334 units, beating even Ninja Gaiden Sigma which is in 3rd place. Microsoft celebrating that, went with the flow and held a party at Yakult Swallows Jingu Stadium on June 20.

Thousands of Xbox 360 pamphlets and umbrellas were given to baseball fans at the stadium. Teams for Yakult Swallows and Seibu Lions were also lucky enough to get Trusty Bell bundles. Darren Houston, Microsoft Japan CEO was there to throw the first pitch. For pictures and the full news (in Japanese) click Xbox stadium promo.

First Blue Dragon, which by the way, recently won a prestigous advertising award for their shadow play promotion, now full fledged promotions for Trusty Bell, seems Microsoft is really going all out to garner support from Japanese gamers. Am really hoping their persistence pays off.

Now if they would also spend that kind of money to fix their high hardware failure rate and get the gamers confidence up, sales would surely increase.

Huhuhu! Seems like Trusty Bell is a must-get game for all Japanese RPG lovers (only if it has English language support though whistling.gif )!
Still Microsoft seems to be really going all out to win the Japan market to gain acceptance to its Xbox360 console.

Just pure Japanese (thank god I can understand the key words)
and no not love lane, lol. But far from love lane. Somewhere near gurney

how's your understanding of the JPN language? maybe you can take some notes and submit a fanslation of the storyscenes/plot to gamefaqs. i think many importers would appreciate it rclxms.gif notworthy.gif

Thanks for suggesting acougan. But I don't think submitting a half-cooked Japanese Translation Script would be a good idea ^^;

Anyway, if you guys insist, i'll post it here. (Give me some time to recall...erm...)

^haha. don't worry ler. its just that - some neogaf poster said the game is filled with numerous talking scenes & storyscenes (almost as much as xenosaga, LoL)

even if u submit a half-cooked WIP (work in progress) file to gamefaqs, many ppl would appreciate it. some of the more fluent posters there might even collaborate and improve the file smile.gif

Finally, chapter 2 is over, with more than 8 hours of playitme...
am I taking too long? or the game is tough...

Anyway, this game has the similiar 'talkative' time as Xenosaga...

Yes, you have to enter the hotel and a cutescene will appear. Then give money to the guy infront of the item shop. Next, cliff.

Yes, you have got to set different special attact in character status screen(where you can change equipments). During battle, just hold and wait for the special skill name to change. When that occurs, quickly release 'Y'.

Actually Trusty Bell holds a very simple storyline. I'll try to type it when i'm free. I'll be also submitting a full review on Gamespot later on. So if anyone of you are interested on buying the English version, I suggest you go through my review later on. Thank you and have fun gaming!

I suggest Jiruba, Salsa/Faruseto, and Polka(this is a must)
Before battle begins, make sure Polka has the special ability to heal the other two party member in a single cast.
Your character level should be around lv35-40 by that time.

First, have either Jiruba and Faruseto to focus on both enemy seperately, and Polka will stand in the bright area just for healing.
The dragon will probably be dead before Waltz, then have both characters attack Waltz.
Please make sure that you have at least 3-5 medic on full party recover and revive.
if you stil have difficulties defeating Waltz...well....train more, lol

^ok, thanks - i got it. had to dispose of the dragon 1st to scrape through.

this is the 2nd boss that keep me retrying. before this, the pretty pirate boss kept wiping out my party and i had to turn around and level up abit, but looking at the game-over screens with the pretty pirate was worth it. LoL

if you want to use the healing move, u need to select it for the character. the skill with the green stars is for healing. depends on your position, you get light or dark (shadow) attack.

yup, the dungeon is pretty difficult for me to. take some pencil and paper and note the changes to the floors every time you turn on the switches. your destination is on the east side of the dungeon.

i think lvl 45~48. the puzzles in the dungeon are so-so ler. don't need any knowledge of jpn to figure them out and 80% of the monster battles can be skipped if u wish too. only some boss battles (those who can heal/revive) is hard if you don't use the "take photos-sell-buy healing potions" trick.

the developers were kind. smile.gif 360 don't have gamesharks or gamesaves sharing, so they insert some sort of optional "cheat code" to help ppl who are having difficulties. culdcept saga also has a similar cheat code to help out in the beginning stages. stage 4 is tough!

Nope previous NTSC-J only have Japanese audio with jap subs. No english. Same goes for the Asia version. If you go to Play-Asia, they currently selling the Asia version (with Jap audio/text) for only RM120. I think they want to sell those quickly to make way for the Asia english version.

but all this damn confusing. hopefully - lost oddysey, last remnant, infinite discovery, etc won't have this problem.

First impressions:

the minute the game starts, there's a familiar feeling that welcomes you

it is something that was severely lacking in Enchanted Arms and Blue Dragon and now finally, Xbox360 owners can finally say this;

"We have a decent J-RPG for our console,"

Although not spectacular, compared to the empty Enchanted Arms and forced Blue Dragon, you can finally feel the sense of wonder and imagination which was put into this game by real Japanese developers who are known for their wondrous balance between gameplay and storyline.

The graphics are simple but solid. Characters are beautifully cell-shaded with almost no sign of polygons, proving that you don't need an Unreal Engine to flex High-Def graphics. Environments are anything but bland and dull, although greater detail would have been appreciated.

Gameplay is still to be judged. So far I can say the intro was long-winded enough to remind me of the Xenosaga days.
Letting me begin with a female character who uses a 'pretty' umbrella as a weapon reminds me of the stale and sour taste I had when playing FFX-2. I only hope the lead (and male) character comes in soon.

On a side note, the names of the towns and places are hilarious. I don't know if the developers realized how silly it was when translated to english.

There's a place called RETARD-dando. (Although spelled as Ritardando)

uhm, i think ritardando is a musical term. the game places and characters have names that are musically-themed. jitterbug FTW!

i enjoyed this game cos it quite different from [eM] or BD. for ppl who are unsure, just try the demo smile.gif

this game isn't getting the attention it deserves

it's being overshadowed by Ass Creed and Ass Effect

I've already put in around 15 hours (half way through I think), and my characters are up to around LV30.

It's fun, but the cut scenes are soooooooooooo boring, because the voice acting is WAY too slow and there are long pauses in between each person speaking. It's like watching paint dry! So as a result I have not been concentrating on the cut scenes, and so I'm not quite sure of the story or what I'm supposed to do at the end of the longer cut scenes, but Wikipedia and a quick glance at walkthroughs gives me the answers I need.

It's a pretty easy game so far, due to how easy it is to make money. I mean from within the second hour I have had more than 100,000 gold. You just need to take some photos of the bosses and sell them, and you make a fortune. Which means an unlimited supply of healing items and whatever weapon or item you want without thinking! I've only felt a need to level grind once so far, and I only spent about one hour doing that until I was strong enough.

The battle system is fantastic, the art direction is incredible. The story is more for kids rather than adults to be honest, but heck, it's a decent game, and finally a good JRPG for the 360.

It's just not as impactful and it won't be a classic like FF7 was, for example.

Added on November 16, 2007, 7:44 pmAnd oh yah don't be surprised at the musical terms - every single name of every chracter and location in this game relates to music somehow.

Just finished the game. Play time is 23 hours, and I found it VERY easy.

I only had to level grind once, and even then for 45 minutes before I was strong enough (pirate ship boss).

I finished the last two bosses the first time I fought them, with plenty of back up items to help me out if they were stronger.

Play it again. I think some of the musical score can only be obtained by a 2nd play through...

3 hours into it, and I can conclude that the growing battle system is very addictive. it has a great music score too.

some of the cutscenes are a tad draggy though.

and I'm liking Beat and Polka somehow tongue.gif hate Chopin's English voice, so monotone and uninterested.

just google xbox360 compatibility list. most games are region-locked. IINM, the PAL version of Eternal Sonata is publish by another company- Atari while the Asian version is published by NamcoBandai and MS Asia.

another example, culdcept saga (US-ENG) is locked for us Asian sets owners vmad.gif
